  1. I guess our frame of reference is different... I find it works very well on spinning gear IF you manually close the bail and give the line a little tug before you cast. I find fused Fireline to be quite flat and because of the coating, not particularly soft. It does soften as you break it in. steve
  2. Fused Fireline is a 4 strand line. I have more faith in a 6/8 strand line. I believe Sufix fuse is an 8 strand fused line, but doesn't come in a hi-vis color. My favorite spinning line is Spiderwire Ultra-Cast... 6/8 strand line with a decent coating. steve
  3. What is that written across the front of your shirt??? I can't quite read it because of that large bass hanging in front of you!!! steve ;D
  4. Few people identify what lb. test they are breaking. I occasionally break 6, 8 or 10 lb test while casting, but I've never broken any 15 lb test. steve
  5. Most of my fish are caught on what I call "ghost minnow"... clearish body with brownish back. I don't remember what Lucky Craft calls it. steve
  6. I wouldn't choose a rod because it came from the factory with a split-grip! Choose the rod you want to fish the choosen technique with because of the blank and action of the rod THEN sand the grip to your preference. I prefer an elongated hour-glass shape with the blank continuing to be covered with cork. More comfortable grip to me. steve
  7. I have been fishing silent pointers for several months and can't tell any difference between the "noisy" pointers and silent models when casting. The silent model may dive slightly deeper. I've been choosing it over the noisy 75 and 100 and have been catching fish with it. I found silent 65 and 75 models at Dick's, as well as the 95's. steve
  8. I prefer the Zara Puppy steve
  9. Not very many plastic baits actually float. Throw the ones you have in question into a bucket of water or your sink and watch... then add terminal tackle to any that are neutrally buoyant and watch the outcome. Pull most any plastic through the water column as with a carolina rig and they will ride above the lake bottom. Stop the locomotion and they will drop to the bottom. steve
  10. Berkley made the best walking popper I have ever used. steve
  11. I hope you're leaving at least 1/4" to 3/8" tag with your terminal knot. Coated braids will slip a little. steve
  12. JKarbo... That is a different lure than the Frenzy. I never caught a fish with the lures you are speaking of. Treefish... I believe they were discontinued a couple of years ago. Please don't tell anyone else, but they are the best popper I've fished for smallmouth. They are very easy to walk while at the same time spitting. They are a much better lure than the Rapala popper which looks almost identical. steve
  13. Strickly for my curiousity... has anyone used a light pearl or white scale pattern over a chrome body? steve
  14. Thanks for the education. I'm not a builder but enjoy looking at the products of those who do. steve
  15. Do to an overly aggressive seagull I only have one Berkley Frenzy popper left. If anyone has one (or a couple) of these poppers they would be willing to part with please let me know. Thanks steve
  16. Clue me into what a "Petey" is? steve
  17. If casting distance isn't of primary concern, don't overlook the Rapala balsa minnows (and let them rest on the surface occasionally). steve
  18. Save a few bucks and camo the white Spiderwire line you have with a couple of permanent markers. steve
  19. I would consider an ultra-sensative rod to be more important than a high-end reel when finesse worm fishing. steve
  20. I've added leaders when I wasn't getting bit... never helped. If you're going to color the braid, color it to blend into the background you intend to fish. This might be a black bottom, a green weed bed or a blue/grey sky. What should be important is whether or not you can see the line, so pick a line color that is visible to you. Lastly, line diameter may be more important than color to visibility. If bites are tough to come by, use the thinnest diameter braid you can get away with and that's probably much thinner than you think. steve
  21. I add feathers to the rear treble, other than that I believe the lure designer knows best! steve
  22. Small barbs or barbless provide easier penitation. steve
  23. finesse = sparsely tied 1/16 oz hare jig presented ala Charlie Brewer slider style!
  24. For your stated purpose, the Revo S is quite adequate. steve
