Omitting the "zero" radio button, makes the assumption that every angler carries spinnerbaits Roger
  2. Even if catch-and-release is practiced, there'll be a minor mortality rate, and if fish-handling is irresponsible the mortality rate can be appreciable. Now then, if two knowledgeable anglers are "catching-and-keeping" the bass, there's no doubt that they can promptly fish-down a small pond, I have learned this from personal experience. Roger
  3. I'll Drink To That! "Long Live SHIMANO" Roger
  4. Translucent objects are less visible than opaque objects, "regardless" of their color and regardless of any color change. Objects that start out translucent remain translucent, and objects that begin opaque remain opaque, color has no bearing The color "red" becomes nondescript gray as the light source is reduced due to water depth, water clarity or sky overcast. The color "red" becomes nondescript gray whether the object is transparent, translucent or opaque. With cajun red line you begin with a translucent red line and end up with a translucent colorless line. Although the red tint may no longer be visible, the line itself is no less visible. If you began with a translucent colorless line, you'll achieve the state without having to wait for the red tint to disappear : Roger
  5. I always sieze the opportunity to use a trailer with a different hue than the skirt. The reason is obvious, multiple hues are more adaptable to different lighting conditions. Lighting conditions change within a single retrieve, for instance, under the dock in shade, away from the dock in sunlight, and as the lure comes from deep water into shallow water. Using just one color nails you to the wall. Roger
  6. The shakey worm and slider fishing are just about diametrically opposed. The shakey worm involves a lot of fiddling around: jiggling, twitches, shaking, everybody has his own technique. Slider fishing is "do-nothing" fishing, it's the same for everyone (a natural glide). Roger
  7. It's physics, there is no doubt that rocks absorb heat and transfer their heat to water. The principle of solar homes is based on that identical principle. So called "trombe walls" are masonry walls that store the sun's energy to heat the home. Roger
  8. Your thinking is right on track, PowerPro Braid does it all Roger
  9. Ray Scott himself was asked who he regarded as the most remarkable tourny pro. Ray answered "Roland Martin", saying that you could drop that man off with a helicopter in the middle of nowhere and Roland would find bass. I too was turned off by Ike's antics, but listen to Ike when he speaks, he's a very glib and intelligent young man. There were people who never watched fishing on television who would tune-in just to see some eccentric named "Ike". In the final analysis, Iaconelli adds color to our sport and is good for the sport of fishing. Remember what Cassius Clay did for boxing? Remember what Bobby Fischer did for chess? Roger
  10. 80lb-class stroker!! Oh Man, if I was still running offshore I'd be drooling on the deck Chris, since you're not interested in the fly-gaff, I'm sure Russ will throw in a shoulder-harness and gimbal-belt ;D Roger
  11. A "jig" is nothing more than a bare hook molded to a blob of lead. A "skirted jig" is a hook, a blob of lead and a hank of silicone strands...that's it! It's my guess that the jig's magic is the fact it's hugs the bottom and is worked slowly. As Avid suggested, most bass are really targeting the trailer, so if you don't want to reveal your favorite soft plastic trailer, just say "I was fishing a Jig" Roger
  12. The most popular reply was "time on the water". However, exactly what are we doing with our "time on the water"? More than likely, trying stuff that we read about on the Internet and in magazines Roger
  13. With black EVA foam grips, we've gone toe-to-toe with slammer blues, sharks and tuna while are hands were covered in fish blood and fish slime. Without a shoulder harness, a slimy cork handle would have squirted into the ocean! You can't blame the manufacturers, they make whatever sells best. Now that cork is universally accepted, we need to go to Wally World to buy some tennis-racket tape so we can candy-cane wrap a $300 rod in ugly brown tape Roger
  14. Oddly enough, the only reel that ever truly let me down was a Quantum (unprovoked gear failure while still new). The only rod that ever truly let me down was a Browning (blank failure on a 3lb flounder). Since they both left a bad taste in my mouth, I'm not surprised that they were kissing cousins ;D Roger
  15. The same line I use for everything else, PowerPro Spectra Braid on spinning tackle Roger
  16. Though I normally recommend holding the rod in your hand, I've bought most of my rods, sight unseen. When you know exactly what you're looking for, it's a piece-of-cake. > Do you know what "power" and "action" it must be? > Do you know what "handle length" it must be? > Do you know what "graphite modulus" it must be? > Do you know what "length" it must be? > Do you know what "lure range" it must embrace? When you're all done, you'd be lucky to find ONE rod that fills the bill That's exactly how I selected the Team Daiwa Light-and-Tough spinning rod. I never even heard of that rod before I ordered two of them. It was such a winner, I recently ordered two more for my wife and myself. Roger
  17. Russ, you're being way too humble! What about that Giant Bluefin Tuna in the half-ton range? Roger
  18. Statistically speaking, any crappie over 2 lbs is Trophy-Class. A 2 lb crappie will average about 15" long and be about 8 years old. A 3 lb crappie is Record-Class and average about 17" long (Age-??). Roger
  19. SHIMANO SYMETRE 2500 FI SY2500FI - $80 Max Drag Wgt Line Cap Bearings Inches/Turn Price 15 lbs 9.5 oz 120yds/10 lb 4-BB/1-RB 31 $80 The Symetre is the best value in the Shimano house > The Symetre 2500 provides 25% greater drag tension than the Stradic 2500: (15-lb vs. 12-lb) > The Symetre 2500 weighs 2/10 ounce less than the Stradic 2500: (9.5oz vs. 9.7oz) > The Symetre has the same number of bearings as the Stradic: (4-BB/1-RB) > The Symetre costs 33% less than the Stradic (-$40) ($80 vs. $120) > You can buy 6 Symetres to 1 Stella and still have money leftover for a steak dinner 8-) Roger
  20. Comparing today's premium hooks is like splitting hairs! It's important to understand the ramifications of jumping to another brand of hook. A new hook brand usually means different reentry points, different centers of gravity and different fall rates. In my opinion, those factors alone far outstrip any illusory benefit of some new brand. If you're using Gamakatsu, Owner, Xpoint or Daiichi, I believe that any problem you may experience cannot be blamed on the hook. Roger
