In the scenario where a gas station charges $20 just because they can, there is a simple solution. When things get back to "normal" don't buy gas from them. Go somewhere else. That's the other side to capitalism. And that's the side of capitalism that keeps business owners from "price gouging" more often.

What is 'price gouging'? Price gouging is a pejorative term for a seller pricing much higher than is considered reasonable or fair. In precise, legal usage, it is the name of a felony that applies in some of the United States only during civil emergencies. In less precise usage, it can refer either to prices obtained by practices inconsistent with a competitive free market, or to windfall profits. Non-pejorative uses are generally in reaction to what the writer believes is an unjustified restraint on the market.

We talked about it at a Fire Department meeting this evening and for a few minutes my gut got that same sinking feeling that it had that day. I'll never forget. I hope you don't either.

Same here with the $40 for gas and $150 for diesel. The price also hopped .50 a gallon and I was in a meeting where several guys got calls/text messages that it was going to hop over $5 a gallon tonight. I thought it was just another crazy rumor until I stopped by the gas station after the meeting.

That just plain stinks as a football fan. I don't like the Patriots and I don't like Brady, but I hate to see him out for the season. I was hoping the Cowboys would beat the Patriots in the Super Bowl this year (with Brady).

The rankings are out. ECU is #14 in the nation! Some team called "USC" is first. Who they? :-?

In my very unbiased opinion, I think ECU should be ranked #1 this week. Who else has beat two ranked opponents? Who else has totally destroyed a top 10 team and shut down a Heisman hopeful? Based soely on the results of the first two weeks of the season, who should be ranked above them? :-? I'm not saying ECU is the best team in the nation, but they ought to get that #1 ranking at least this week. Ok, I realize that I'm reaching here, but a guy can dream can't he.

Last week: Upset VA Tech. Today: Demolished WVA. Beating two ranked teams in two weeks will definately get us into the rankings! I know that dosn't sound like much to some of you fans who cheer for teams that could lose three or four games and still be ranked, but this is our first time in the Top 25 since 1999. Go Pirates! 8-)

I agree. You could make millions off of that idea, and then be able to retire and travel all over the country fishing all the time.....Oh, wait, you already do that. ;D But it would be nice to see someone market a boat alarm.
