  1. I fished it one time many years ago. It was a completely forgettable lake.
  2. I have an All Star IM10X, 6'8" MH, Zell Rowland spinnerbait special. The same rod is available in either a Team All Star or a Platinum series. If I'm tossing lighter weight baits like 1/4 oz I'll use an old AS classic BCM-6 med/fst.
  3. Nitro boats are what they are. I can walk into a typical Nitro dealer, start digging around deep into the boat and find plenty of fit n finish issues which would make me start to wonder about how well attention to detail was paid to the important stuff you can't see, like the hull construction. Nitro has had a history of problems. They're the only bass boat company I know of that actually had an owners complaint internet board. In the past few years a couple local news stations have done some customer service Action news investigations on Nitro/Tracker after numerous customer complaints. I can think of no other boat company that has happened to. They have problems with QC on and off the assembly line. It seems as though some boats are alright and others......... Tracker/Nitro marine customer service leaves a lot to be desired. I've had 2 friends own BPS boats. A Nitro and a Tahoe. The Nitro owner was often left to feel as just one in a big herd of cattle when it came to issues with his boat. The Tahoe owners story is a nightmare that I can PM you info on if you're interested. I'm not advising you to not buy one but I'd consider just how much you're saving. There are other manufacturers that are putting out boats in the Nitro price range with a better track record of quality of construction and service after the sale. If you're still convinced that a Nitro is the way to go I would STRONGLY suggest you visit a Nitro authorized INDEPENDANT dealer vs buying off the floor of a BPS store. Independant Nitro dealers have their own in-house service. They can pay more attention to detail and problems that may arise and take care of them promptly. BPS stores can only refer you to 3rd party servicers if you have a problem at which point you become one of those head of cattle. Good luck.
  4. ;D I was out 2 weeks ago. It was a very shallow ramp, I was pushing the boat off the trailer, stepped on the spare tire carrier and it shifted.... ooops.... I was clinging to the side of the boat, one leg dangling in the water. Understand that I could've stood up on the ramp at this point and the water would've only been a little over knee height but I just didn't want to get wet. I finally gave up, stood up in the water and finished launching. Both lower legs wet. Water temp = 55 Air temp in the morning = 40 No extra clothes in the truck. I was frozen like a popscicle until the sun started really warming around 11am.
  5. Medical rationing already exists in this country. The rationing is done by the bean counters at the insurance companies who decide what, when and how much they'll pay for a procedure or if they'll pay for it at all. The current system isn't working. Millions have no insurance and those that do just keep paying more and more and more. I can't say that a goverment run healthcare system is the answer but some sort of medical insurance plan has to become available that is centralized so that all can have access. The current hodge podge of ins. companies with different rates for individuals, groups and so on is sucking the life blood out of this economy.
  6. Besides the advertised teaser sales, most BPS stores have bins throughout the fishing area filled with overstocks or slow sellers. These usually aren't even advertised in their local circulars they send out.
  7. Interesting premise. They don't indicate what size the baits are in the descriptions. 3/8 th? 1/2? I also wonder how they'd track through the water under a high speed retrieve.
  8. Which recessed tray are you using Jig Man?
  9. As Needemp said, great open water bait when the shad are schooling. The bills on those Glass shads don't hold up well cranking down into the bottom. I've broken several off doing that.
  10. The negative perception already exists. It's been reinforced lately with all the problems Mattel has had with their toys coming out of China and the media exposure that brought. If I were to go out and pick up a new Penn Senator 13H, turn the reel over and see "made in China" on the bottom of the reel seat, the first thing I'm going to wonder is whether this reel would have the guts to pull a 40lb grouper out of his hole in 150ft of water like the old Penns used to do. I'm not so sure I wouldn't put it down and move along to another reel that wasn't made in China.
  11. I have a feeling more would be built over there if the average consumer didn't have negative perceptions about just about anything built that says "Made in China". There's a generation out there that doesn't realize that 30 - 50 years ago, if it said "Made in Japan", it was probably junk. That perception and reality has changed a complete 180 degrees. I imagine it would be difficult for a company like Penn, whose built a long standing reputation on reliable, well designed fishing reels to just shut down all their plants and move operations to China. The negative perceptions of a reel that was once quality and now is being built in China could easily hurt the companies standing in the fishing industry whether or not the quality of said reels actually degraded or not due to country of origin.
  12. There's absolutely no reason why a Stella couldn't be built just as well in China vs in Japan. It could. This isn't rocket science. It's an assembly line regardless of where it's made. Provide quality parts, train the people to assemble it correctly and have thorough QC. Why Shimano continues the practice is beyond me. They're system of values is much different than ours and they hold their workers in a higher regard than what a typical American company does.
  13. It's time to go fishing.
  14. I've got 4 S reels, 2 SC's and an SX. 2 of the S reels I bought were pretty used considering the age. The other 2 were like new. I can't tell the difference between the two. Whether the older reel with at least a full season on it or the newer ones, they both operate quite well and I'm pretty happy with the Centrifugal braking on them. No pins loose on any of them. One of the SC's and the SX have really been getting a workout the past few months and neither has missed a beat. Anything manufactured is open to have problems, especially if it's a new design and regardless of who built it. Flaws in engineering. Lack of proper testing of a new design. Failures in the assembly process or a change in supplier for a key part. QC not thoroughly checking every reel they're supposed to check. It happens. That's why they have warranties people.
  15. Revo S. Daiwa Advantage 150P Both of these can be found like new on ebay for good prices. On average, $65 - 80 for a slightly used Revo S and $50 - 65 for a Daiwa Advantage slightly used. Good value. The BPS pro qualifiers that have been out the past 2-3 years. Model PQ 10. 7 bearing. Really nice, smooth reel that lasts. $35 - 65 depending on condition. As already stated. The Extremes. Great reels for the money. Catch them on sale new for $60. Slightly older Rick Clunn RCX-1000 reels. 8 bearing. nice. Used and in good condition for $38 - 50. Shimano Cruxis. This one is a real sleeper. You can get these for around $70-75 on ebay in like new condition. Nice reel. Pflueger Presidents. Check the forums and Ebay. I've regularly seen these reels go for around $75 - 80 in very good condition. I don't care for the overall profile of the reel, too tall for me but if it weren't for my messed up hands I would probably be using Presidents right now. Old Curado's. Still going strong. On average $75 - 100 depending on condition. Garcia 4000 or 5000 series reels. You can get into one of these in nearly new condition for around $35-40. Rods. Lightning rods are still a great option. Bionic Blades. Watch for the sales. Extreme rods. Another great one. Watch for sales. The SC Avids if you can find the sales. AS American Classics. Same as the old classics, different color. You can pick them up on Ebay for around $40 - 50 each new. Shimano Clarus. These are always popping up on the forums. Nice rods. $45-55. Fenwick HMG's. Another that pop up. Good rod. $50 on average used. Team All Stars, sometimes go for around $50-70 on the forums. BPS crankin sticks. Great rod. Wait for sales.
  16. Links please. I believe your spool spreading was determined to be caused by the person incorrectly spooling your reel with new line on the spooling machine vs. the actual reel itself.
  17. I seem to recall a certain moderator around here that got 2 Shimano's bad right out of the box. To make matters worse, Shimano wanted him to spend his money to send their broken new reels back to them so they could fix them.
  18. How much do you want for that piece of junk?
  19. Speed clips here too.
  20. What for. You've got you own ideas and your mind is made up. This thread is about Pinnacle reels. They're good reels. Get one. Exactly. Why waste money on a Chronarch MG or a Revo STX anyway? Go buy a Pinnacle for $69.95. It's the same reel! ;D :
  21. The guy to ask is RedlineRobert. He owns a carrot stick and just got done whipping some Peacock bass with one South of the border. The rod worked well apparently and would probably be very suitable for reds or specks.

Nice bunch of deer. I kinda gave up the deer hunting a few years ago though I still miss deer camp. Very windy today, still lots of leaves on the trees and the mast crop is supposedly good around here. I'm glad I'm not down in my old grounds today, those conditions would've meant for some slim pickins.
  23. You have been seriously mis-informed. No one company makes ABU, shimano and Pflueger reels. They are made by seperate entities. secondly, While Bass Pro Shops has had a long history of selling BPS exclusive Garcia reels over the years, BPS branded reels have NEVER been a garcia product nor designed like one. The only retailer that has a Revo type reel being sold in house is Cabelas but the reel is branded a Garcia though the model is available as a Cabelas only and can also be found in overseas markets in Japan. I have disassembled quite a few BPS reels over the years and I can assure you that neither Shimano nor Garcia reels were in the guts of those reels. Pflueger, yes in a few instances.
  24. What model is it? If it's an AT model they had a problem with the control head itself and the clamps that hold down the cables. One or both sides would crack and you'd lose head turning ability. The fix is a modification that involves changing the upper head with a new one along with some new modified brackets for the inside clamps. These come as a kit which you can get from most any MK TM servicer.
  25. Yep. The bolts coming loose was one of the things some guys were complaining of. If you forget to check them regularily.... Funny, Bill Dance is pushing these and I recall a blooper from his first video where his seat breaks off and he falls backwards into the lake on a hookset..... ;D
