  1. Rottman, you need to post in the BFR Missouri members tournament thread at the top of this forum.
  2. Nice fish. I see you're fishing out of a flats boat. Is that standard fare there or is that a multi-purpose boat for In-shore fishing as well?
  3. Me 4! ;D I figured the Snap-on truck pulled up or you took a trip to Sears.

There are some seriously "Wacked" young kids out there these days. I don't understand has happened? Many High schools have a full time police officer on duty, others have metal detectors at the entrances. So many of these incidents have the same MO. Student(s) who's the butt of jokes and being made fun of gets ahold of some guns and decides to exact revenge. What's causing this? Kids have always made fun of others, it happened in my day when I was young but grabbing a glock and taking out as many of the student body as possible before putting the barrel into your mouth and pulling the trigger wasn't the answer. It solves nothing. The ironic part is these are the offspring of a generation that grew up with "all we are saying is give peace a chance" as their mantra. How did this get to the point where young kids have no concept on the value of human life, whether their own or someone elses? These kids are walking into classrooms and firing away like it's some sort of video game. (Hmmm, might be a connection there) They're blazing away at human beings like they're in some Schwartzenager movie (uhh, ohh, another connection). When the shooting stops and the perpetrators are caught, if they haven't already killed themselves, they go through the court system with stone cold, expressionless faces claiming they were driven to it by the actions of others. I think it's time for some of these kids lives to really be studied. To really try and get behind what's really going on that caused this in the first place. That starts with the parents. I have a feeling whether the child comes from means, which is the case in many of these incidents, or not, the problems are coming from a breakdown in the parenting.
  5. Watching the action on public boat ramps can provide hours of entertainment. It's best not to think about the fact that these same clueless idiots are going to be sharing the same body of water as you. I've always wondered why they don't have launch ramp workers like they have at golf courses to speed up play. You get 5 minutes max to back in and launch a boat or you have to go back to the end of the line. Hmmm... Could be a good way to make a few bucks on the weekend. Stand around busy boat ramps and hire yourself out for $20 to get them in the water in 5 minutes or less.
  6. I just found out last night that my niece, a senior at VT is fine. She was off campus having breakfast with her boyfriend when the shooting started. They knew nothing of what had happened when they returned to campus about an hour or so later for her first class but security stopped them and wouldn't let them back in. Nothing was said about what had happened by security and they found out by listening to the radio.
  7. I was the unfortunate owner of a power drive for 6 years. The best day of my life was the day the removeable mount broke and the whole thing went overboard. Go back through this boating board. There's a couple threads on the MK power drive. Previous owners and many current have given them a big thumbs down for most of the reasons I listed. Great open water TM's or for waters where you can only use a TM to get around with and you want to go a far distance without having to leave your foot on the motor to steer it. They suck for most any other bass situation.
  8. Glad you're all ok. I know Georgia has been in drought for awhile but I thought this last front dropped some decent rain down your way. Good luck to all in Georgia.
  9. Which would work, saltwater tourneys do it all the time. Problem is the tournament organizers will argue that it ruins the meat show at the weigh-ins. No anglers dragging in sacks of fish and hoisting lunkers in the air = no interest on TV or spectators at weigh=ins. Unfortunately, it's the need for a meat show and dragging those fish around in a livewell all day that causes all the mortality in the first place.
  10. I agree. When I'm actually flippin I see most strikes by watching the line movement, not from feel. The last thing I need is some super sensitive (and fragile) high end rod when I'm basically watching for the bite and then setting the hook and hoisting. You need a rod that's got some durability. Look at the BPS Extreme flippin sticks.
  11. The only good thing about any of the MK power drive trolling motors is the flat foot pedal but even that will give you problems (electronically) after a few years. They turn to slow. They're stow and deploy system sucks (though I've heard they've changed it) Unless you buy a model with a built in transducer, running a depthfinder transducer cable on those things also sucks. They use more battery power since they're not only sucking juice to run the motor but to turn it as well. Did I mention they turn w-a-a-a-a-y too slow? ;D Great motor if you're fishing in open water situations, terrible for bass fishing applications.
  12. I'll send one along now. We should have more after this weekend when the Central BFR group meets at Little Dixie for our little Rally/tournament.
  13. I don't know of anyone that sells just the glass covers. As far as I know, teleflex doesn't even sell them. Don't know if this is the same gauge as the one you've got but this guys (trackermarine ebay store) has a gauge here for $15 shipped. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Trim-Gauge-NEW-125637_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ31283QQihZ002QQitemZ4599601628QQtcZphoto
  14. I've also had an AT since the old MK power drive went overboard. Great motor.
  15. Never used them but I've heard that you never, ever unhitch the boat from the winch till the back of the boat is at the water. I've been told a boat will literally slide right off a trailer on steep enough ramps.
  16. As that thing went through St. Louis Saturday we actually had some sleet on and off during the day. Man Russ, do you live on the roof or what?
  17. When buying a new boat, always try and match the motor HP to the max HP of the boat. As stated, after the newness of the boat wears off, you'll start wishing you had that extra HP when you're boat has performance issues and I don't just mean top end speed. Then you'll want to trade that motor in for a bigger one (you'll take a bath financially on that) or you'll try and sell that boat to upgrade (under-horsepowered boats don't bring as much as those that aren't),
  18. You my young friend know what's up. Sure growing up has it's perks, but what I would give to be 17 again ...... and I am only 24 : I always loved that line in the movie "It's a wonderful Life" "Youth is wasted on all the wrong people!" So true. ;D
  19. Someday, when you youngins reach the ripe old age of 50 you'll probably begin to understand why dear old Dad is a little more particular of the days he spends out in the woods or on the water. I can't pinpoint the age exactly, but somewhere there in your late 30's and early 40's the old body just doesn't do all the things it used to do without objecting. I believe it's part of the aging process that you kids will eventually experience yourself. In other words, be kind to Dad, especially if he's older. It's not that he doesn't want to spend the time with you, it's his body that's objecting. BTW, for you guys with the older Dads, suggest he join a Gym. I did and it's the best thing I've ever done. I don't have near the joint pain and stiffness and my stamina has increased. Tell your Dads that this 50 year old Dad suggested it.
  20. I don't drop shot much, hardly at all actually Shimano Crucial 6'6" ML Penn PG 1000 6lb Trilene clear
  21. I'm by no means wanting tournaments banned, I'm merely wishing my states water patrol would simply look at each of the more popular lakes, like LOZ or Table Rock and determine a cutoff point where the lakes resources are being overtaxed by a tournament(s). Then set a limit, via the issuance of regatta permits for the total number of tournament boats on a lake on a given weekend. This not only applies to large tournaments but the smaller club tournaments as well. There are plenty of non-tournament fishermen that would love to fish a lake but are basically turned off to it due to the resources of said lake being overtaxed by a large tournament or many smaller ones. Looking at it another way, for profit tournament trails are using this resource to make money, I think I might add a specific users fee for any T that has more than 50 boats involved. Said monies could go to fund our sorely underfunded water patrol and if anything, could help cut back on T's by discouraging some organizers who don't want to pay the user fee.
  22. Priceless! BTW, is your boat a 184?
  23. Just made the modifications. It sped up every web page load time but one....... take a guess. ;D
  24. I'm lucky to own an '87 Yammie ProV. A real workhorse with gobs of power. I get on OB motor forums and listen to the guys running newer motors and all the pampering that has to be done and I wonder why I'd ever switch out.
  25. Old outboard motors are much like old car motors. Regardless of how the old guys (like myself) wax nostalgic on those beasts, they did require more maintenance than newer motors.
