Perry's record is in BIG trouble!!!!!
Bassmaster has had an article or two in the past on the value of the world record. Basically they figured the value based on the lucky angler parlaying the fish smartly into cash and product endorsements via the manufacturers of the equipment he was using, seminar fees, fees for renting out reproductions of the fish, fees for displaying the fish in an aquarium (like BPS for example) if the fish is kept alive. Whether it would add up into a 6 figure number remains to be seen but I'm sure you'll get more than the rod n reel George Perry got for his fish and you'll probably have enough cash for dinner at Red Lobster vs. having to eat the fish.

Perry's record is in BIG trouble!!!!!
Matt, no ones trying to slight CA the world record. Heck, I think most everyone in this sport has been waiting for the fish to come from there since Dave Zimmerlee's monster made the cover of Bassmaster way back in 1972. Crupi came close. I can understand the Georgia boys being a little defensive with the Perry fish. Heck, state pride and all that. There are certainly questions about that fish but since it's been regarded as the WR for 75 years I think it's best to just leave well enough alone. That said, in todays day and age there's no excuse for guys who are actually fishing for the WR bass like these guys have been, to be so unprepared. Do we really want a bass like this one you're speaking about to be the next WR with all the controversy it already sounds like it's wrapped in? I sure don't.

Perry's record is in BIG trouble!!!!!
Jealous? : Why do you want to replace one controversial record with another? If the IFGA is behind this it'll be hard to take that organization seriously anymore. If they start changing the rules just to create a stir in fishing with a new record bass they'll start to have the same legitimacy as a typical NASCAR race. NONE. ;D

Perry's record is in BIG trouble!!!!!
So if I get this straight: You CA guys whine and cry all the time because the Perry fish didn't have enough documentation nor evidence of it's existance or even that George Perry even caught the fish. You conveniently forget the time and place and that that fish didn't really mean that much back then. In fact, in meant more for Mr. Perry as food on the table than a trophy he can cash in on other than a rod and reel. Now you want to allow an illegally caught fish (the Weakley fish was SNAGGED, NOT CAUGHT per CA laws) or this other one that occured 4 years ago with some excuses about 7 million dollars and it losing a pound in-between 2 weighings? C'mon Matt, let's have a clean record, no questions asked or controversy at all. I'm starting to think we need to move these giant bass into another area of the country where there are fishermen with a little more common sense about them. Those big bass are being wasted on you guys. BTW, You guys are really getting desperate out there. As RW said. Try getting some copies of the rule books. Make sure all these guys are equipped with certified scales and possibly get them enrolled in some class on "How to not go brain dead when you may have caught a World record bass" What a shame Mr. Perry isn't alive anymore. He might have been able to instruct you fella's in how to handle yourselves. I'm sure the first thing he'd say is "whatever you do, don't eat the fish"! ;D

Sorry, I got distracted by the bikini expo Now, what were you talking about?

bass pro qualifier reels comparision
I've got a couple of the older PQ1000 SE's and a couple of the newer PQ10's. Nice reels, smooth. I also got them used and saved a bundle. That said. If you're talking about buying new, those reels are $100 if they're not on sale. For that money I'd get a Garcia Revo S.

6'0" vs 6'6" vs 7'0" Rods
What are the shores like you're fishing from? If the lake(s) you're fishing from are fairly clear of trees and brush a 7 footer would be fine. If not, a 6 1/2 or 7 footer can be a real hinderance. If I'm fishing from a typical bank in a pond with brush and trees I prefer a 6 footer myself.

UPS and Fishing Rods (A Nasty Combo)
The bulk of the rods I recieve from a guy come in the cardboard tubes which I save to ship later. He's used UPS and Fedex to ship. I've recieved at least 4 or 5 shipments where the tube was damaged, sometimes nearly broke in half and yet THE RODS WERE OK INSIDE. The key I've found is to NOT pack the rods completely tight in the tube. I use that styrofoam sheeting to wrap around both ends so it's snug in the tube and then wrap around the middle to provide support there. That seems to be better than stuffing packing into a tube so the rods are incapable of flexing.

Adjustments for more speed
What W2S said. Speed = $$$ First, a boat speedo is a highly inaccurate beast for measuring speed. What's worse is even if you made some changes, the reading you get from it may or may not be reflecting true changes you've made. The most important information you failed to give us was your current WOT RPM's. RPM readings are a far better gauge than a speedometer. The cheapest thing you can do is to simply raise the motor a notch and see what happens. Again though, if you're at max RPM's at your high end now you may lose more speed. Increased top end speed often comes at the expense of holeshot. Boat setups can be a long, involved and expensive deal.

Well the boat is in but...,please read and help
Some boats are contingent on buyers approval and the final check handed over upon inspection. The fact he wants to look at the boat would indicate he's interested.

Perry's record is in BIG trouble!!!!!
The problem with the Weakley catch is that he broke the law by not releasing it immediately since it was foul hooked. As I understand it, the CA law considers a foul hooked fish a non-catch and thus, must be released immediately. The weight cannot stand as a world record since he illegally weighed the fish. As for the other fish? Dunno, if I was going to claim the world record I want a clean record. A 4 year old fish story about a fish losing a pound between the time of one weighing to another sounds, well, fishy. I don't care one way or the other, I've got no dog in this hunt. I sure find it interesting at how badly you CA guys are handling this big fish deal though. Considering the possibility of landing a fish like this every time you go out, no one out there seems very prepared.

Best Outboard on the Market
This is sure to open a can of worms. ;D I've owned Merc, Evinrude, Johnson and finally a Yammie. The other 3 paled in comparison to the rice eater.

trolling motor selection
With an 18' boat I wouldn't go any less than 24v. I prefer MinnKota. The Maxxum motors are nice. They also sell a 70 something pound, 24V. Edge series motor if you want to save a few hundred.

Baitcasting problems - Part 2 - help!
Once you get out 60-70 feet with a cast you're not going to be able to get real accurate. Way too many variables come into play once all that line is hanging in the breeze and you've got a relatively light weight lure on the end of the line. As long as you're in the ballpark you're doing fine.

UPS and Fishing Rods (A Nasty Combo)
I've heard this before with rods being shipped in PVC tubes. Everyone thinks because it's PVC and so durable that some part time dock worker at UPS couldn't find a way to damage it. ;D Of course, my brother worked at UPS years ago in the loading department. He always told me to never send anything via UPS that you wanted to get there in one piece. That said, I've shipped quite a few rods in the heavy cardboard tubes through the postal service. In all those shippings I've had a tip break 1" off and another person say they recieved the tube badly damaged but the rods survived. It seems no amount of packing can safely protect any rod shipment.

Perry's record is in BIG trouble!!!!!
Yep, it was foul hooked and according to CA law, never should've been strung on a stringer and then drug around the lake while these guys phoned their lawyers. If anything, the warden who stood their and observed their lawlessness in taking the fish and stood by while they drug that fish around should be reprimanded. Weakly didn't catch that fish, he snagged it. Big difference. As for the other fish. ????? I've never heard that story before. It's as good as any I suppose.

Big Industry News!!!
Ahh, a major competitor starts a rumour throwing confusion and uncertainty out there. Wonder what his motives might be? BTW, you said So you're drawing a conclusion based on a rumour from a competitor of Walmart or BPS? There is no factual basis for anything you've posted yet.

Is there a limit to cost and tech of rods & reels?
I think everyone thinks in the terms of buying new everything. If you spend some time on bass fishing forums that have swap and sell forums you'll often find used equipment in great condition costing way below new.

Boat control effect on fishing
You mean running the trolling motor? If you're new to controlling a boat with a TM it can be a little overwhelming. Especially if there's a partner in the back and you're trying to keep both of you in position to fish properly. Once you've done it awhile it becomes second nature unless you're dealing with extreme conditions like heavy wave action, heavy wind or both.

Catching a Lunker with no camera or video
A potential WR bass will recieve more scrutiny than Anna Nicoles kid. Do whatever you have to to document, document, document.

Is there a limit to cost and tech of rods & reels?
When you're spending mega bucks for a high end rod a good deal of the cost is for the lifetime warranty as much as for the rod itself. The high end stuff is lighter and more sensitive at the cost of fragility. As for the reels, you're usually talking about high end materials used in construction that make the reels lighter. Scads of bearing packs that create the illusion that this thing is a true mechanical work of art. In the long run, as manufacturing techniques with these materials improve and the cost of the raw materials lowers, these same features will make it down the line to rods and reels most of us can afford. Fear not, you're really not missing out on that much not owning a dozen rods and reels that cost as much as a small car.

You don't ground to the boat hull, no.
