  1. This 663 savvy was up for sale used and I just missed it - I don't think they make a 663 fury. I have a savvy 734c that has awesome balance, power and tip. The heavy fishes like a mh - I would love to find a 663 savvy
  2. another for xf. Interesting - I forget if they had a new mojo topwater 68mxf at Cabelas so I can check it out before buying.
  3. Thanks. I'm leaning towards the m/f mojo or avid 68 Nice! The old one is $89 on the st. croix website. But, I think I want to go with the new Mojo jerkbait 68mf or Avid 68mf. Do you have both the new mojo jerkbait 68mf and the new mojo topwater 68mxf? If so, which one do you like better for both? Thanks.
  4. Thanks for the response! I guess I want a fast action tip because it is what I am used to. I mainly have St. Croix, Gloomis, and Dobyns Rods (from triumphs up to champion extremes). They all have such great 'feel'. The blend of power and action on these high quality rods just feel 'right' to me because I've caught my fish on them. However, when I take a newer abu garcia veritas or Lew's Speed Stick or even a more expensive Daiwa zillion rod, the bend just feels too rigid to me (almost unnatural - like it'll snap on me when I give the tip a bend). The Skeet Reese yellow rods, on the other hand, feel like noodles / too whippy. Maybe it is a specific blank material that I'm not liking too much. The Lews Custom Speed Stick - Topwater is listed as medium-lite fast, but it does NOT feel medium light to me (more like a medium - medium heavy). Maybe it's time to start using one of these rods to see how they are when I actually have a fish on. Obviously, they must work if they're going to charge big bucks (like the zillions, even the steez's).
  5. Just curious, because everyone is different in what they like (for this technique specifically), why do you prefer extra fast? I have a quick trigger and always worry that I'd be taking it away from the fish too quick. Jerkbaits are by far not my forte, so maybe I need to rethink this.
  6. Never did like the rage rod - also, I want to stay away from microguides - I will probably use this rod for topwater as well. I would like the option to throw braid with a FC leader, and I hate microguides with any leaders. Thanks for looking out though. I do love me my st croix rods
  7. They only have a 70 in ML casting, unless I'm mistaken
  8. I'm looking for a 6'6" to a 6'8". It needs to be Medium power Fast action. So far, I contemplated a Lews Custom Speed Stick Topwater that was Medium Light - Fast, but it felt a little rigid. Bass pros did not have the lews jerkbait rod that is 6'7 mf. I liked the st croix premier 66mf, but it's a little tip heavy and closer to a medium heavy (most older st croix's seem heavier? than listed to me). I have an old Kistler TS magnesium 66mhf that was just too similiar in my eyes to the premier. I finally got my hands on (at the store, not fished) the new and improved St croix mojo bass jerkbait rod, but the tip seems extra-fast to me. Has anyone fished the new mojo jerkbait rod? I'm leaning towards the premier at the moment. I'll sacrafice the rod balance and sensitivity in order to fit the price range. The right blend of power and action are my main concerns. I am not opposed to buying a used rod off the forums as well.
  9. I hate microguides for any braid with fluoro leader
  10. I think Faircloth won on the Sabine (first year there) using this with a small bullet weight. That grass seemed super sparse, though. I'd be fishing in grass that's less sparse than that.
  11. What size weight is that?
  12. It's a great smallie bait for sure
  13. I love throwing a 3.8 or 4.8 keitech Swimbait on a exposed jighead, but I don't like it much rigged weedless with a keel-weighted screw-lock hook. Does anybody throw one swimbait on a jighead while preferring a different swimbait for sparse grass? I'm especially looking for a swimbait that doesn't tend to 'grab' the weeds. Bigger than a grub, yet smaller than most hollow bodied swimbaits-- say approx. 4-5inches in length.
  14. I guess the shad rap spinning vs casting preference is similar to preference for throwing a jerkbait. Some people (more towards the North) prefer throwing a jerkbait with a spinning rod, while some people prefer throwing them with baitcasters. It's tough to get used to throwing a crank with a spinning rod, I have to admit.
  15. It's a running joke - he actually clears out some of his front storage and I jam the az8 in there (after taking some 3700s out). My az8 does not zip anymore and the side "bottle" holder has ripped. I rigged a shoulder strap because that broke. It's just time for a new bag and when I occasionally fish a larger higher level tourney, I'd like to be more courteous to whomever I'm paired with. That and make it less of a pain for my buddy.
  16. My reels are not fine tuned (or supremely maintained) enough to throw 1/4oz the distance you would want with a shad rap. My curado's E's are getting old.
  17. Thanks for the dimensions! Normally the organized guys devote that back storage box to the co-angler, but you're right - there are the less organized who don't offer that compartment to you.
  18. Thanks, Paul. Trying to up my game when the water temp is 40-50
  19. sharp trebles and setting the hook wouldn't be the problem - but rippin' it out their mouths before they can get it good or during a rough fight - that's another thing.
  20. I always hesitate throwing braid with any bait with treble hooks, because it's what we've been taught and it makes sense. But, I love throwing braid and I think it should work with a medium light. Thanks for your input.
  21. I'd rather throw spinning, so what spinning rod and line setup ? Thanks JFrancho
  22. A number 5 shad rap weighs 3/160z. Anything less than 3/8oz for me is spinning rod territory. What rod and line do you use for throwing a shad rap 5 in early spring 40-50 degree water? A number 6 is only a 1/4oz - same setup?
  23. some of those big name companies never seem to participate in any of the good TW deals. That's an ugly color too. Seems to be the best bag for me, though.
  24. Does that fit in the back storage compartment or do you put it under your knees? I'm leaning towards this bag, thanks.
