  1. Must be wire guards instead of wire walkers - auto correct
  2. That's a good point. I didn't think about that. So, the hook set you're talking about...Are you just kind of leaning into the fish? I did not catch a jerkbait fish at all last year, but I caught plenty of fish on a super fluke. The fluke and jerkbait are different with the hooks obviously, but they hit it the same way when it's paused or not.
  3. There's a big difference between 10 or 12 lb braid and 20 lb braid. I used to have a cus72ma one of the newer red blank cumaras with microguides and using 12 lb braid with a leader made whatever I was throwing fly! My biggest fear is ripping the jerkbait out of the mouth before he really has a chance to get it good. FLuoro still has that little stretch - think I'm going with that - plus the versatility of using it as a shakeyhead setup / tube setup etc... Helps as well.
  4. So, I'm deciding to use spinning gear for my jerkbait set-up this year. I have a cus68m Shimano Cumara paired with a stradic 2500. I don't want to use a rod longer than 6'8" because at 5'9" I lose some comfort in my ability to jerk the rod the way I should. The highest lure weight suggested (actually printed on the rod itself) is 3/8 ounce. All the LC jerkbaits I throw are 3/8 ounce. Does anybody else use this rod or a very similar rod for throwing 3/8 ounce jerkbaits? Does it do okay? I was watching Hook n Look (2014 Episode 2 - Suspension Comprehension) and they were using the Newer Crucial Spinning rod for throwing their KVD 3 treble jerkbaits. The rod (CRSJ610MA) is rated to throw up to 5/8 ounce. But they were using braided line with a fluoro leader. Does anybody else use braided line on their spinning jerkbait set-ups? I was thinking just straight 8lb Fluoro. I'm guessing Braid would launch the heavier jerkbaits, but how does it do on hook-sets?
  5. I'm guessing a 201e7 is the same IPT as the 201g7
  6. How do you calculate inches per turn again?
  7. Is there a big difference between the two? I've fished them both but not enough to notice any differences or advantages one way or the other, but I know some who only throw shakeyheads with the free moving screw lock clipped to the eye of the hook or just between the eye and jighead. Should I rig my shakeyheads this way in certain situations vs. the screw lock that's casted in the jighead? I'm probably over-analyzing here, but that's what I do when cabin fever sets in.
  8. Awesome. I'll have to try those out this spring. Thanks a lot.
  9. Will the longer leader somewhat take away from the sensitivity you get with the braid? I've been using a longer leader lately myself but always wondered if I'm losing some of that sensitivity or low stretch properties
  10. Thanks. My Braid stays on nearly all season. Turns nearly white, but it lasts. But I'm always unsure with my Fluoro how much I'm putting on. I know the line capacity for the 2500 stradic is 150 yards for the average 8lb line diameter. If I fill it half way with cheap 8lb mono that leaves me with 75 yards of good Fluoro - so It might be possible to spool three times with a 200 yard spool IF i'm exact (75 x 3 = 225 - close to 200). I wanted to know if anyone had a way to be more exact.
  11. I tried bringing my line through a line counter when spooling, but that was a big pain. How do you know how much line your spooling on your reel? And how much should I be putting on anyways? Here's my situation. I use cheap mono backing to fill up half the spool and then double uni to my the more expensive line. But how much line should I be putting on? I like to change my line often (maybe every 3-4 tournaments). I break off a ton and tie palomar knots most of the time (can waste more line than other knots). How much should I spool on for the typical 2500 spinning reels (8lb diameter is most common for spinning) and the typical 200 series curado's (12lb diameter is the average line I use for casting)? I'm a firm believer in quality line, so I prefer Sunline for braid and Fluorocarbon. It's not cheap, so learning to be useful with my line will help me save some of that extra money needed to buy the more expensive line. How many 2500 spinning spools could I fill with the typical 200 yards of 8lb Sunline Sniper? Two? Three? more?!?
  12. Thanks, Tom. I'm going to go lighter. The cyclinder style weights you're talking about.... Are you talking about rigging a soft plastic on a mojo rig except less of the leader? Not sure what you mean by wire walkers ? Again, I appreciate your feedback
  13. I'm in central CT. That's great that you have a boat. No need to join a club just yet if you have a boat. You can hit up Candlewood in March for bass - all the way up to March 31st. Then the lake is closed to bass fishing for three weeks. It reopens 3rd Saturday of April.
  14. Welcome to BR. If you want to find out more about Ct fishing - check out CTFisherman.com. If you know the right places, you can catch a bass from the banks pretty much any day of the year in CT (stripers in the winter months). If you're targeting largemouth - mid march to early April is the normal target time for the new season (if the New England weather cooperates). Check out the ct.gov DEEP website for the lakes open year round - otherwise you have to wait until the third Saturday in April. Join a club as a non-boater if you are interested in the next level of bass fishing. Just be prepared for total addiction after that.
  15. Lower housatonic for schoolies (stripers) hopefully a few 30 inchers in there as well
  16. Entry fee should be slightly less for a non-boater. Period. Clubs that know all the arguments surrounding this issue are set up this way. Clubs that are not are in it for the money, not the fishing.
  17. You're probably right. I've never shelled out the money for a MB Ito vision. When I looked at the pro blue on TW it seems to be translucent through the body - it didn't look too translucent on the show or in the poor quality picture I took
  18. Purple flash RC STX luck e strike. You think?
  19. Would have been more entertaining had it gone over. Underwater cameras find it and they spend Half an hour trying to hook it with their flipping setups. How long have you spent trying to hook something that went overboard in super clear water?
  20. On closer inspection, it doesn't look like a storm twitch stick. Maybe a luck-e-strike or megabass. Anybody else see it? Mercer puts it up right in front of the camera when landing one of BP fish
  21. Saw the episode yesterday - great show. I saw Dave Mercer's live target baitball series jerkbait, but what jerkbait was BP throwing? Twern't no husky jerk.
  22. Thx. Anybody fish these lakes and have success?
