  1. That "switch" opens/closes the livewell plug, pretty much like the drain plug... so when you put it in EMPTY you are leaving it open... thats why the livewells are always getting water, but they will only fill so much..in my boat it is about 1/2 their capacity.... when i am not using the livewells i leave it Closed, no need to be carrying that extra weight... so, you need to put it in FILL, so it closes the livewell plug... I am not familiar with the 3 position switch, on mine it is only OPEN/CLOSE... I think if you put it in FILL you will maintain water in the livewell, and then put it in RECIRC to allow the recirculation pump to recirculate the water...
  2. I used a brass welding rod to make shear pins for the 3hp Johnson i use on my tin boat...
  3. Good day. I have uploaded some sonar recordings of my local lake to IG. When the files were uploaded, I could see a message saying something like "2 files processing"... But it has been almost a week now, and the map has not been created, nor can I see my files anymore... should I try uploading them again? I havent used IG for about a year, but IIRC something changed, I cant change language (it is in spanish, and even though I am mexican I prefer English for these things), and I cant seem to mae it work anymore... I see, however, the greeting message saying I recorded 109 acres... I also see some of my recordings from before that have a tag "public trip - not in socal map"... which i think is because there is a water level difference between my recordings and somebody else's, since this lake varies a lot... But the new records from last week are nowhere to be seen... Thanks...
  4. well, i still have the Javelin, and fish it almost every weekend. i have been doing some work to it... i started by making a deck extension with a bigger cooler, as sometimes we fish from dawn till dusk, and the smaller cooler is not enough.... just this past weekend i installed led lights, red on the deck, white on the compartments, and blue on the livewells... a 12" strip is enough for the compartments... my max speed is about 50 MPH but i dont have a jackplate and im running a 24 Raker prop. my rpm gauge is not working, so i dont know at what rpm im turning.... thats the next thing to replace. so far i really like this boat.
  5. maybe something work taking a look at: https://parkit360.ca/ just yesterday i saw a video on facebook of a big boat being parked by one man besides a house, it barely fit in there and the guy pulled it easily... it was way bigger than a bassboat...
  6. read this: im still in the learning stage, but when i started fishing soft plastics some years ago, that article really helped me get my first bites and get confidence on soft plastics, specially senkos....

  8. i was going to replace my lower unit oil today, and when i drained it, i noticed it had some water in it.... so, i need to replace the seals... but where do i start?? is there a way of knowing which one is broken?? BTW there are no dealers within maybe 1000 miles of where i live.... and the local boat mechanic told me he wont accept more work for the next two months... i believe changing the one on the propeller shaft is easy.... but i also heard there are about 5 seals and O rings that need to be changed.... where do i start?? i am mechanically inclined but have never tear down a lower unit before... i guess i could inspect the water impeller while i am at it... i have a 150 hp Johnson from 1994. my Mod number is VJ150ELAXX, i dont know if its RA or RV, as it cant be seen on the tag...
  9. thanx!! i have 2 units, a 5 and a 7, the 5 cant be networked, so i have to download maps for each unit... i really appreciate your answer, i just noticed on Content ID i wrote "maps" when i registered... i didnt realize it was a specific number... i will do that as soon as i get home... thanx again!!
  10. well, i still have not been able to figure it out.... my unit reads the files, as i can see them in the Browse Files menu.... but this is the map i get another person said the maps should display in the Chart menu, but i can only see Navionics or Lowrance cards... i dont know what other numbers i need to input to register the unit, IG only asks for the serial number... the tag has a number, but one of the menus has another number (the last 5 digits of the tags number)... i already tried both, with no luck....
  11. thanx! i have been having problems on the extraction part i guess... i tried dragging the .exe file to the card and then extracting them there on the same location, or extracting them on my computer and draggint them to the card, with no luck... also, what do you mean by "numbers entered for the plotters"?? the serial number?? thank you...
  12. thanx for the video! thats pretty much what i did... since i hadnt logged anything, i tried downloading a map from the Social Maps, i extracted the files to my sd card, but my units didnt recognize it, as the map didnt show as in the video.... i have already uploaded my log from a trip this week, and it created a map, which i can see on my computer... i have yet to download it to the card and see if it shows on the units though, i havent had time to do it, but ill try with the map i created...
  13. thats correct, the 5 files are on the card... and yes, i have both units register on IG, I added both plotters (as IG calls them) and downloaded the same map twice, once for each plotter, but i had no luck....
  14. hey. i have an Elite 5 HDI and Elite 7 chirp... iim trying to download and use a map from the Social Maps on Insight Genesis... theres a map from my local lake that somebody did, but i dont know how to view it in my units. i downloaded the file, and it went to the Download folder in my computer. so i dragged it to the microSD card, and then extracted the files from there. Then i removed the original file. im installing the sd card before turning on the units. but, when i turn it on, im not getting the dialog box asking me to use the map, as the instructions mention (step 16) https://insightgenesis.wordpress.com/2015/06/25/how-to-download-a-free-insight-genesis-social-map-chart-for-fishing-cruising-or-sailing/ but when i move the cursor to the lake, i cant see the contours or anything, it appears just as it does without the card... what am i missing?? thank you...
  15. might as well check out this one, Elite 5 for $170 after rebate http://www.gandermountain.com/modperl/product/details.cgi?pdesc=Lowrance-Elite-5-HDI-Fishfinder/Chartplotter-With-Suncover&i=922116
  16. another thing i found out is to put the engine in Forward speed, that way the prop doesnt spins around...
  17. thanx, i already applied some grease to them... the lower bearing was rusted, but the upper one was not... however the crown was broken in one part and that made it begin loosing its balls haha.... i will keep an eye on them and grease as required....
  18. thank you!! i have bought from them before, for hard to find parts for the big engine... however, since i live in Mexico, its difficult and expensive for me to order to the US and thn go and pick the things at my address there... so, i went to a bicycle shopand found the bearings for $.050 each....they are used in older bikes for the handlebar... i have yet to test it on water but on the trailer the motor spins smooth now...
  19. a year and a half ago i got my 1994 Javelin with a 150HP Johnson for about $4200.... it was tournament ready, everything worked as it should, including brakes on the trailer.... so yes, i would say, even though there are hard to find, those deals appear once in a while if you are patient... of course you will have to deal with things like faded paint and maybe upholster seats and such (mine had the carpet newly done BTW), but as long as you are OK with comsetical flaws, i would say getting a decent bassbat for under $5k is doable...
  20. that is correct... only there was no way of disconnecting the wires, i had to cut them... and its the pinion the one holding the inner shaft in place... once i removed it, the shaft just slid down....
  21. thanx! i jus fixed it, but i didnt have to remove the rivets. the rivets hold the head to the outer shaft, and i had to remove the inner shaft... so i just had to remove the cap, and to gain access to the bearings, i had to remove the pinion. its screwed in place really tight, it took one of us holding the lower unit and the other one turning the pinion with a big wrench to get it to move... i also had to cut the wires that run inside the shaft... but pretty much its a very basic process... i found some bearings just the right size in a bicycle shop, they were $0.50 each... i was about to order online, they are only $5, but they would ship to the US and then i would have to go and pick them, and theses ones i found locally in Mexico.... it turns good in my driveway, i dont see why it wont work on the water... i also applied some bearing grease to both of them...
  22. thanx! i already found the part for less than $5... i just need to figure out how to remove the top pinion, the one that turns with the cable steering... after removing that, the replacement is easy....
  23. hey. i have a 71lb motorguide, which started getting stuck. i was having a hard time pushing the pedal to turn it. upon inspection i found out the bearing was missing some balls. how can i replace it or fix it?? its already rusted so i dont know if i could find the missing balls and put some lube in it, or if i could find a new one, and how to dissamble the rod to install it... im sorry i thought i was in the Boating section...
  24. thanx. in my picture, it seems the best spot would be where the lower bunk is?? between the ribs as low as it can go?? i will see if i can put it between the 2 bunks... i have never seen one installed so low, i guess noone wants readings on plane??? i read somewhere you cant epoxy the one i have and keep all the functions, including temp and downscan... and even if i could, i prefer not to epoxy it....
