  1. thanx!! so for plastics and jigs, you would prefer the 6'6" MH Wendlandt over the 7' H Bucoo?? i thought i needed a H to help me with the hooksets, specially on weedless worms and also to bend the weedguard on jigs... i have a couple fo 3/8 and 1/2 jigs i plan on using with the same rod....
  2. thanx. i dont really know how to fish plastics, let alone jigs, but i want to learn and i was told a 7' graphite rod heavy would serve both purposes, as i dont really want to get 2 setups for 2 techniques i want to learn.... so, would a MH work better for both jigs and weedless plastics??
  3. thanx!! i decided to invest a little more and get me a Falcon Bucoo instead... a friend of mine recommended that rod to me, its going for $100 on *** and 130 with microguides, but for only 80 at Academy, so i will get that one in 7', Heavy. what do you think?? i would have gotten the Falcon Wendland but they didnt have a Heavy rod, only MH.... also, regarding the reels, how do you adjust the centrifugal brake pin system?? the 2 quantums i have (Code and KVD from Bass Pro) have a knob on the left side of the reel. the Code has only 4 positions, the KVD has 10... but the H2O reel someone mentioned here, which has a lot of good reviews in several pages, has a 6 pin centrifugal brake system.... how does that works?? i read something about having to take out the side plate to adjust it... seems slow and not practical to me... is it easy?? thanx!!
  4. thanx!! im not really set on the All Stars, they are just what i found at Academy... i dont live in the US, but i am making a trip there to spend Christmas so i wanted to visit Academy while im there, its the only outdoors store in El Paso.... the other option is buying online, which would be fine also.... so, do they have the sensitivity needed for worm fishing?? because i dont know if i cant interpret the signals or not, but many times i dont know what am i touching with my crank or spinnerbait... i know im bumping into things, and most of the times i know they are not fish (sometimes i have doubt so i set the hook), but i cant say what am i actually feeling...
  5. hey. im relatively new to bass fishing, only took it seriously this past July, so i have been fishing for roughly 5 months.... at first i was using crankbaits and spinnerbaits and was doing well, but with the colder weather im not fishing much anymore, 1 or 2 fish when i used to get 6 or 7 during the same time and at the same lake... so i began reading and i saw that for colder water, soft plastics are preferred... i have tried to fish them a couple of times but i have never caught a fish on a worm... all i have are a couple of fiberglass rods, a MH i use for spinnerbaits and a M i use for cranks... so i would like to get a graphite rod to increase the sensibility and see if thats what i am missing to begin getting fish with worms.... so i thought i would like to get me a not so expensive graphite rod, and saw these All Stars: http://www.academy.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_10051_11798_-1?ICID=CRT:0127-00055-5002 or http://www.academy.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_10051_11551_-1?Ntt=graphite+worm+rod&Ntk=All what do you think?? i know you get what you pay for, but i dont feel like spending 200 for a rod and another 200 for the reel at this point... i would probably couple it with a Quantum reel in the $100 range.... or if you have another suggestion on a better worm rod in the same price range i would appreciate it a lot... thanx!!
  6. or as long as i remain in Mexico =) i know it would be better if my jeep had the harness properly wired and the trailer too, so the lights could copy the signals.... but i dont really know how to wire the harness, it was all thorn and the cables were all broken... i had to move the boat one evening/night, so i had to wire it like that.... and here, as long as the lights are on, i know i wont be bothered by the cops... once i had to borrow a trailer with no lights, so i just placed a headlamp on each light, and that was enough for me to move it without a problem.... not the best, but it works... besides i dont really move my boat much during the night....
  7. well, actually they dont... the harness of my jeep was all thorn and useless, so i just wired a separate harness.... the trailer lights just turn on when i turn on the jeep lights, but they dont copy the brakes or turn lights....
  8. ok, ill take care of that ASAP... i guess if i just dont turn on the lights while on the water would help meanwhile??
  9. hey. im coming to Ruidoso from dec 21 to dec 24, to do some snowboarding, but i thought i could do some fishing as well. is there any place where i could fish for bass?? all i found is trout fishing. so, would it be worth the hassle to bring my rods and tackle bag, or should i stick to the snow?? thanx!!
  10. i didnt knew that.... my lights not only are not sealed, but the red plastic cover is partially broken, so the bulbs definitely get wet.... so far i have not had a problem.... whats the worst thing that could happen, to blow a bulb?? i dont think it could cause a blown fuse or something....
  11. thanx for the video!! and hopefully i get to catch a DD one day... not where i live though, we have a huge depredation problem, people here dont care for C&R, so they dont let the fish grow old... but i will definitely keep trying!!
  12. i know, thanx!! i had never caught a fish over 2 pounds.... and generally they fight and jump... this one was over 5 pounds, and it felt really heavy, but didnt fight much.... is that normal?? at first i knew i had a fish, but after a while, it just felt like when i snagged a shirt.... a heavy, motionless load...
  13. thanx!! well, i dont know about sizes, i just used what i could find... its a bit smaller than the main hook, but i dont know if its one size or more... also, what size is the spinnerbait hook?? or what size trailer hook should i look for??
  14. thanx!! and, home is in Chihuahua, Mexico!!
  15. thanx SirSnook, ill see what i can find next time im at academy, or next time i place an online purchase.... and Packard, it is a nice place... its a dam they made in a small canyon, so you can always see both shores, the widest part must be about 150 yards, the narrowest, maybe 40 yards, and about 4 miles long.... so, not really big, but its nice to fish there, and its 1 1/2 hours from home...
  16. thanx!! but i dont live in the US, and wallmart here has a really small fishing section.. i will check, but i doubt ill find more than sinkers and line...
  17. thanx for the link!! i will definitely will be ordering some of those on my next purchase....
  18. heres one of the fish....
  19. hey. i had been feeling a lot of short strikes while fishing spinnerbaits... i tried slowing down, but i still had short strikes... so i began looking for a solution and found out about the trailer hook and how to rig one.... however, i dont have hooks with an eye big enough to fit over the spinnerbait, and i havent seen any to buy... so i decided to tie one on... im a climber, so i trust my knots... this is what i came up with... its just a temporary solution until i find the proper hooks... anyways, yesterday i went fishing for the first time with my trailer hooks, and caught this, my PB, a little over 5 pounts, and almost 20" long... it has hooked in the trailer hook, which held just fine.... here are the pics....
  20. its funny, i just looked for this thread because im bored at work, and just thought about doing exactly that to my fishing partner... so i wanted to see what other pranks you all have done... i have seen several, but still this one is one of the best, and one im definitely doing next weekend...
  21. oh ok, i get it now, thanx!!
  22. thanx, but i dont get it. whats a standpipe?? yes, i had already figured that the intake was not under water when i was on plane. what i dont know is how to keep the water in the livewells. im guessing i need to close the lower discharge hole, and use an aerator to keep the water recirculating... then when i get to my fishing destination, open the valve, and turn on the fill pump.... also, can those pumps be working for extenden periods of time, like a couple of hours??? thanx!!
  23. well, i managed to conect a bilge pump to fill my livewells, with water 100% from the outside... the bilge was dry, and i was filling the livewells with the pump...but now i have a couple of questions. first of all, how do you prevent the livewells to overflow?? this is an old (1977) boat without preparation for a recirculating pump.... the water enters to the livewells from a perforated pipe which does the function of a sprinkler, i believe to gather more air or something.... and, it has 2 hoses to the outside, one in the bottom, one in the top... im not sure if i can turn on the pump and the water coming in will be the same as the water coming out of the 2 hoses, refilling the livewells with new water always... wont the pump burn or something because of the continuous use?? also, when on plane, the pump stops sucking water, so i turned it off.... when i got to my destination, the livewells were empty.... do you put valves that you close while you are moving, and then open them when you are fishing??? sorry for all the questions, but i dont know where else to ask... thanx!!
  24. ok... i just finished wiring my modified bilge pump... it will seat under the water line, connected to the inlet with a 3/4 hose, so i believe it will be primed because of the water pressure.... if the wind stops blowing today ill go for a test ride later... thanx!!
  25. thanx Rhino. now that i understand that, i think i will be able to connect the pumps correctly. im a do-it-yourself person, i just dont have any experience with bass boats... i have never even seen one besides mine. but now that i understand how everything should be, i think i will have no problems... i already modified my second bilge pump to accept a hose instead of the normal sloted base, so maybe i will be able to make that one work until i can come to the US and get me the aerator pump from Academy.... im in Mexico, where we have to make things work one way or the other, specially on projects like this, where there are no dealers or parts suppliers anywhere near me... i have to drive 3 hours to get to Texas.... on my last trip i picked up this second bilge pump, so i will see if i can use it until my next trip across the border.... when we got the boat, the only bilge pump was conected to feed the livewells, so we had no real bilge pump and no idea how it should be... now it is conected as it should, to the side hole (which was sealed by the PO).... after 6 months, everything its beginning to take shape.... on another note, im already almost bald @ 26 years old, so, there is barely any hair to tear now hehe thanx again!!!
