  1. hey, thanx for the help!!! yesterday i did just that, i used a rough file, and then a smoother smaller file to finish shaping it. i still need to use some sandpaper to make it smooth, but so far, i already removed the hook and now i can hold the rod like i use to without a problem. it took me less than 10 minutes to get it where i wanted, i could still remove a little more material to leave it straight, but i think this is enough...
  2. thanx!! im not sure it could be bent into shape, maybe it could but i would be worried about damaging the blank... i think ill use the file and sandpaper...
  3. hey. i bought a Veritas some time ago. i like the weight of the rod, and it works well for my needs ( i use it for spinnerbaits mostly)... what i dont like of the rod is the small hook in the trigger... i have a couple Falcons and the trigger is straight, it suits my hand better. so i use the veritas for a while, and then put it down because it begins hurting my hand... has anyone modified the trigger to cut the hook? what did you use? i have been thinking about a Dremel... thank you... and i want to cut it to leave a straight trigger like this one
  4. thanx. i really dont know how old was the oil, as i purchased the boat last July and didnt change the oil then, the owner said he had performed service recently. our fishing season starts on June 25, so ill change it after some hours on it to see how it looks...
  5. hey. yesterday i changed the oil on my lower unit. when i took out the top plug, i found it with a lot of metal burr. should i worry about it?? last time i used the boat, i noticed a grinding noise when going into gear. and yesterday when i removed the lower plug, a mudlike substance came out, it was barely flowing. then some dark oil and a couple drops of water came out as well. i used a compressor on the top plug to remove as much oil as i could, and then put API GL 5 80-90 oil in it. i went for a test drive and it worked great, no grinding noise and ran as usual....
  6. thanx!! ill keep that in mind too... only 2 weeks from now, can hardly wait!!
  7. how do you call this rig? i think i saw it in here some time, and would like to know its name to read more about it and maybe experiment with it a bit... its basically a weightless texas, but you use a dropshot weight placed in the hook before inserting the hook in the belly of the fluke...
  8. i used to keep them in their original bags, and store the bags in 3700 trays.... but now i do what thie article says, and i added one thing. i found a plastic Tupperware box that fits perfectly in the compartment of my boat where i store plastics... i can fit about ten 1 gallon ziplocs in the box, plus a small tray with hooks and another one with weights... so i keep them all in thebox, and when im going fishing i just put the plastic box in the boats compartment... for me, its the easies and fastest way to pick the lure i want, instead of having to go through all the boxes to find the bag i need.... http://www.s c o u t /outdoors/w i r e d tofish/story/1468641-7-steps-for-organizing-soft-plastics
  9. thanx!! i had just ordered some 5 and 7" flukes in pearl, 6 and 8" senkos in watermelon and other greenish colors, and some 6" lizzards. so its more or less what you mention. i also ordered scroungers, i have heard they work great on El Salto with a 7" white fluke, so ill have to try them. We are heading there on May 12, so we are fishing May 13-15. ill report in here as soon as we come back.
  10. hey. we are planing a trip to El Salto, in Mexico, next month. as many of you may know, this is a lake known for its big (10+ lb) bass... i also know some people in here have made several trips to El Salto before... so, besides 50 lb braid, what other insight could you give me?? specially regarding lures, as i have never fished a lake with these big fish.... i went to Picachos once a couple years ago, and we caught a lot of fish with 5" and 6" senkos, lizards, and flukes... but then i used what i normally use here, and the biggest fish we got was about 6 lb.... now, going for the big fish, what do you recommend?? i have heard 7" flukes, or big senkos or lizzards.... we live in Mexico and we are towing our boats, so we cant ask our guide what to bring... thanx!
  11. i found a "great deal" some time ago as well
  12. ask her where she has it, and then tell her you have a relative nearby that is willing to go and check it out or even pick it up, that would be best for her as shw wouldnt have to pay shipping charges... most probably she will reply that is not possible and give some excuse....
  13. ill try to explain myself better.... when i highlight the word NAME i can see the name of the waypoint... however, when i click on the right arrow to put the block around the letter i want to change, i can no longer see the name of the waypoint, all i see is a white rectangle with a block, but no letters... thus, i have to click the UP or DOWN arrows to move the letters, and they actually change, but to see what i wrote, i have to click the LEFT arrow to highlight the word NAME again... so im changing the letters and naming the waypoints but im blind while doing it, im not actually looking at what letter im changing.... how do i take a screnshot with the unit?? and why is it different than taking it with the phone?? tomorrow ill take a video of the issue, but i dont know how to post it in here... i dont know, how can i tell?? im new to this, the boat i got came with that unit, and i have fished for about 6 months out of it but just began playing with the sonar....
  14. i also created a group of waypoints for the lake, im not sure if its the correct way of doing it, but i created a group to mark all the points on that lake... and anyways, the problem of the unit not displaying the letters is in both cases as you can see in the pics...
  15. hey, as the title says, i have a humminbird 587 ci hd. a couple weeks ago i decided to mark a dangerous tree that is submerged some time of the year but now is about 1.5 feet above the water, so it was a goo time for marking it. so i drove to it, and marked the waypoint. i had no problem setting the waypoint itself, nor the icon, however, i couldnt see the NAME characters. if i scrolled left or right i could move along the characters, and with the up and down arrows i could change them. doing this i managed to write the name, however, i had to estimate what i was writing. this is a pic of how it looked, taken at home as it was taking too long so i just marked the spot and then i named it at home. to see what i wrote i had to move to the left until i was out of the box where you put the name. when i highlight the option NAME, i would see what i had written. but when i scrolled to the right to move the letters, all i could see was the white box. any idea how to fix that so im able to see what letter im changing?? thanx!!
  16. thanx!! ill have to fix the tach then before trying anything else...
  17. thanx! thats about what i have read, 5800 rpm at 65 mph is what people claim to be achieving... you mention "with that setup".... so, what would be required for my motor to turn the 24 prop at that rpm?? and if i were to change prop, which one would be better for what i currently have??
  18. i found the prop by number 394753 and it says this: Manufacturer: Evinrude / Johnson / OMC Prop Family: Raker Part Number: #394753 Rotation: Standard Rotation Diameter: ***/2” Pitch: 20” i thought it was pitch 24?? because of the 14 1/2 x 24 written on the prop itself.... http://boatpropellers.iboats.com/Evinrude_~_Johnson_~_OMC-Raker-Propellers/394753/?cart_id=564368837
  19. thanx for your quick replies. first of all, my tachometer is not working, so i dont know my rpms, im already working on fixing it.... the speed claims i got from a facebook group of Javelin owners, seems like most of them run at least 60 mph.... assuming they are just bragging, how fast do you think a 18' 150 HP boat should go?? my prop is in as new condition... or well, it was up until last trip when i hit a submerged log... it got dented a bit, but im picking it up tomorrow from the shop, so it should be fixed as new again... so all my tests were with the prop without a dent or anything.... w2s why do you mention oversized prop?? i think its 14 1/2, pitch 24... or am i missing something?? the boat gest on plane quickly, and with 3 people and fishing gear i have gotten 47-48 mph, while with 2 people and no gear, i only got 50 mph... im still learning how to handle the boat, the way i do it is trim all the way down, and then accelerate slowly, once on plane, begin trimming up, gaining speed without accelerating... i really dont remember if i trim while accelerating to get on plane, its automatic and i havent noticed... once i get on plane, if i want to get max speed i just step on the hotfoot all the way down and trim up until i stop accelerating.... a couple of times i have began porpoising so i trimmed down a bit, it doesnt happens often though... i have used the boat for skiing without a problem, it gets on plane and pulls a skier easily, if thats worth something...
  20. hey. i have a 379 Javelin from 1994, with a 150Hp Johnson. the boat is about 18' long. the prop reads 14 1/2 x 24, its stainless. i have no jackplate, and a stingray hydrofoil. i have read my max speed should be about 60-65 MPH, however the most i have gotten in my gps is 50 mph, with 2 people, no load. with 3 people and fishing tackle i can get 46-48. i normally cruise at just enough speed to keep on plane, as the lakes i usually fish are small. but i plan on going to a bigger lake where speed would be required to travel a longer distance, besides, i think having the right setup would be more efficient, even at lower speeds... so, what should i do to increase that speed and efficiency??
  21. thanx!! ill check that out and see what i can find. we came to spend time with family, but since we are staying until January we thought we could have some fishing time.
  22. hey. i came all the way from Mexico to Fontana California for the holidays, i will be here from now (December 25) to January 2nd. so im looking for a fishing trip, either bass or offshore. i dont have any tackle with me, and a 1/2 day will be fine. where do you recommend? thank you, and happy holidays!!!
  23. thanx! ill have to check on that then, because i do have access to 2 gopros, but i had never paid attention to them because i had understood they didnt have that feature....
  24. thanx, i hadnt thought about it but thats the same, no need to have hours of boring driving with nothing worth recording...
  25. some time ago i saw a camera that had a function in which it would record for 5 minutes (or any given time), and then overwrite them with the next 5 minutes, as if they were stored in a temporal memory. when you wanted to save them, you just pressed a button and they were transferred to the real memory. this is to avoid having hours of video of you casting without getting a fish, the camera would be always recording but not saving, until you catch a fish, then you can reel it in, weight it, release it, and then push the button and the past 5 minutes of recording would be saved. as far as i know, gopro does not include this feature. does anybody know which cam does includes it?? it may be my Christmas present to myself....
