  1. Saltwater guys have been using the umbrella rig (th A-rig is essentially an umrella rig) for years. It is far from a novelty rig, however it is just recently being used in freshwater to target bass.
  2. Pro fisherman may promote their sponsors, but none of them hold a candle to a celebrity hunter! They can not say a single sentence without promoting a sponsor. Pretty annoying actually. That being said I would have to say that KVD has little to no emotion when he is pitching a product. Straight faced and as serious a you can be, and does not seem to get too exicted about the product. I like that, you can tell he is not trying to sell you a terd in a shiny wrapper.
  3. My personal best was on Father's day back in 06'. It was hotter than usual for that time of year. So I waited untill early evening to go out. I was fishing along a downed tree in the 2nd basin of Big Lake, whitley co, IN. I was using a firetiger crankbait on a fiberglass spinning rod with 8lb mono and running it on the bottom. I felt a small tug and then it was game on. She did not have a lot of fight in her so I did not think she was that big. She jumped and tried to throw the lure and I saw how big she was. All I could do was look at the guy fishing with me a say "NET" Took several pics and measurements and let her go. Went to the dock and another angler was launching his boat. He asked how we did and I told him I caught a 6lber. He proceeded to tell me he had caught a 10lber on Sylvan Lake the same day. Something special must have been happening that day.
  4. Here are a few things I would ask the seller. When buying a boat, I am always more concerened about the engine. It is easy to look over the cosmetics of a boat. Harder to tell if you are getting a good outboard. 1) Has the lower unit oil been changed regularly? 2) Have you put a waterpump in it, if so when? 3) Can you run a compression test on the engine? If a compression test was run, what are the numbers? All cylinders should be close, I am guessing they should be around 115 or a little higher. 4) Check the steering, see if it operates smoothly. It is probably a single cable for the steering and if it has not been lubed it will stick and become hard to steer. Check the transom for any cracks on the outer edges where it meets the hull. See if you can run the boat. Not with rabbit ears but on the water, some engines may run well hooked up to a hose but then run like crap under a load.
  5. Don't worry about feeling bad. Fish do not have nerve endings like we do. They do not feel the pain.
  6. From Ft. Wayne here. Fish the many lakes in NE Indiana.
  7. That is the best, fishing with your kids. Mine are still pretty young and do not like to go much yet. I love it when I get to fish with my Dad and my kids want to come!
  8. My 2011 was the first year in a long time that I did not fish much. I went out maybe 10 time other than when I went to KY lake. My 2012 goal is to catch 100lbs of bass on KY Lake this year, going first week of May, why the first week of May you ask, the guys I go with just want to fish for gills. Also catch a few bass on the fly rod. Missed a few bites last year and nearly put my eye out. They are quite a bit bigger than bluegill flies and hurt a lot more when they hit you! I will have my truck and the wife's car paid off and looking to upgrade to a Z7!
