Spring Time Jig Trailers
Hooligan has the same concept as I. I like the Rage Craw in cold water above most trailers. I fish slow with a jig in the cold water as do most anglers. Most trailers, when presenting them very slow, won't engage their action. Rage Craws or chunks will displace water and the claws will flutter even when fished extremely slow.

Luckycraft Slender Pointer
I use the 112. It's my favorite jerkbait for the money. I like it better than the pointer because it has 3 sets of trebles. I also like the Smithwick rattling rogue but the LC Slender Pointer doesn't need any tuning right out of the box like some of the smithwick's.

Which Ar 15
The bushmaster varmit or predator are both great for yotes. My partner has the predator. I've seen him shoot a few with it and have shot the gun myself. It seems to be a great gun. I had a s&w m&p. Don't get one of those. On another note, I now use a Ruger Mini 14 Target. I love it! It's a heavier gun at around 10 lbs. but it is a tack driver! Good luck and good hunting.

You might want to check your source of info. Tennessee only allows 3. Ky. doesn't have a hook limit.

Wow! January Has Been Great So Far!
Hey guys and gals! It's been awhile since I've posted so I thought I would drop by and say hey! Last year was busy for the roofing business and I didn't get to do much fishing so I thought I would get going in 2012, you know beens the world supposed to come to an end and all....okay, yeah, whatever. Anyway, mother nature has been in favor of the fisherman around here with temps reaching the 60's on some days! The lake has been on fire! A-rigs, jerkbaits and jigs have been the best producers for me. We've caught fish from 3-20 ft. of water. There have been several nice fish caught but this girl was the pic worthy fish for me. She was out in the middle of the lake, hugging a stump when she nailed my A-rig! Hope momma nature has been treating some of ya'll as well! CJ

Alabama Rig
You're right it does work wonders and they don't have to be schooling. But the one I've been throwing has 6 lures on it! And this is bad? How? Wait a minute.......it fools the fish into biting something that is not real!!!! Now I get it!

Alabama Rig
I don't see the big deal. It is a great lure but it's not going to win every tournament. Its not an automatic monster bag because you are fishing it. Matter of fact, my last outing a jerkbait was the ticket. Should it be banned?

Opportunist Or Locationist?
Great topic Roger! More times than not I have to believe I would be a locationist. I have SI but I don't totally bank on it everytime. Sometimes I can remember scanning fish or bait and trying different presentations and lures until I find that one thing that will make them bite. I have seen things as simple as the speed of the lure retrieval or simply killing a lure when I feel it hit that sweet spot, cause the fish to bite, just a couple examples. Though I have to say I have learned on the river reservoir I fish, the fish can pack up camp and migrate away from a said depth and/or structure overnight. Other changes I have seen are the fish changing their relative location to a said structure and/or cover. Example, after a cold front the fish may hug up to a stump or bury itself in a brush pile out on a ledge where the day before they were actively feeding on a nearby rocky spot where they were slighty suspended or just not on the bottom. Although I've seen it happen both ways, more times than not, I look at my buddy and say,"they ain't here, we better go find some fish".

I'm using the 5 wire made by D&L Tackle. I think they are local. 4.5 Shadalicious with an 1/8 oz. 3/0 jighead. 20 lb. test Flourocarbon on a Revo S with a 7' heavy fast tip Abu Veritas. I don't like braid but if I start having any problems, I may try it. The first day I fished this rig which was only a little over a week ago, I was sold. It definantly catches the fish! My arms were a little soar. I weighed my entire rig out at 3 3/4 oz.

A Day To Remember!!! New Pb For Nikki!!!
I really don't know where to start but I don't want to stop! LOL! My dad, my new wife Nikki, and me finally got a chance to get out on the lake for about 5 hours a couple days ago. Man the fish were waiting just about everywhere we stopped with their mouths open! The fish are done spawning and out there where I like em'. We didn't count but we easily caught over 50. The first bigmouth I caught was crowding 5 but I didn't want to take time to weigh her. The next three cast produced three more fish from 3-4 lbs. followed up by several keeper fish. We went on to some other spots and caught more fish but this one spot was special. The first fish caught there was a big sauger. The next fish was a big smallmouth that Nikki set the hook on! She put up one heck of a fight but Nikki won the battle with her spinning rod and 8 lb. test line! I also caught another 5 lber there along with several other nice fish. It was one of those days I won't soon forget!

WOW! We had a ton of rain today! The lake levels could be on the rise and put the bushes and yellow flowers in the water! Better pack your spinnerbaits and plastics.

Though the boat numbers are down in the BFL events here, it will be a long walk to the truck on Saturday unless you put in early. During the week may not be that bad during the roadtrip but the Moor's area has the most boat traffic on Ky. Just be careful while running.

Here's a good link for some fishing reports here: http://www.kentuckylake.com/fishing/reports.shtml Kick N' Bass and Dave Stewart are usually right on the money with what's going on. It don't hurt to read all of the updated ones though. GMAN, plastics should be ticket during that time. Spinerbaits and crankbaits may be part of a good pattern. Green Pumpkin and black and blue are great colors to start with for plastics. Chartuese and white with 4 1/2 gold willow leaf for spinner baits in 1/2 oz. Most chartuese, shad, or craw colored cranks will work.

On the average about 2-3 ft. of visibility. It could be as stained as 6 in. viz or as clear as 5 ft. CJ, whats the "typical" pattern that time of year that we will be there? Typically it would be a shallow bite but, there will probably be more than a few patterns producing. There will be pre-spawn, spawning, and fish in between beds. Right now there are fish 2 ft. deep, fish 15 ft. deep and in between.

Wayne, Barkley may have more shallow cover given the lakes stay at normal pool levels. bowfish12, that tournament ran out of Paris Landing didn't it? That's awesome! The fish are getting bigger! The shad kill probably helped but 3 double digits on the same day used to be unheard of.
