  1. Thx, that's a good start. It mentions some of the other fish found there. I would like to find out more about the "freshwater streams". Where, size, species, etc? So far this give me hope for my dream lottery home. lol
  2. Is there any Freshwater Fishing in Hawaii? Although I doubt I will ever see it. Yeah, I know there is fishing 360 degrees around all the islands. But that's the easy fast paced fishing. I want to know about the serene side of fishing throughout Hawaii. Are there any freshwater fishing spots in Hawaii? I did do a quick search and came across these: Kualapu'u Reservoir Wahiawā Freshwater State Recreation Area Is that it, or are there other "hidden spots"?
  3. Use can easily try Safety Pin Hook Organizers https://www.dontheoutdoorsguy.com/en/fishing/articles-on-fishing/388-4-diy-fishing-projects-from-upcycled-and-reclaimed-materials.html Scroll to the bottom of the page to see. Just pin the hooks together, bubble wrap, box/wrap. Then you should be good to go. I don't ship hooks much, but this works great in my tackle boxes.
  4. My favorites have been Wrangler Rugged Wear Angler pants & Cabela's Trailhiker Pants Pros: Comfortable relaxed fit. variety of sizes (waist & inseam long/short) elastic fit waist quick drying. pockets/loops The Cabela's have been replaced with Cabela's Trailhiker II Pants. They're not bad, but the old design was a more relaxed fit. The side pockets are now kinda stiff/snug. :( From what I see now on Cabelas or BPS websites you can only get these in store now. :(
  5. IMHO - I believe the heat bothers us more than the fish. The fish will bite all year long. We just gotta figure out how to trigger the bite. But figuring that in the 85 degree+ heat is much hotter. If we can't figure out a pattern quickly enough, we may write off the trip is too hot to fish. ? This is especially true for bank fishing. I'm positive that my last couple outings would've been more productive in a boat. But like the op I'm bank fishing. I can see good possible spots, but have no access without a boat/kayak.
  6. I like to fish alone or with others. When I fish with others it can make the fishing day stressful. I like to go fishing. Fishing: the activity of trying to catch fish. I like to catch fish, but I go for the whole experience. IE: exercise, quietness, weather, nature, no technology, no traffic, etc. People that expect to catch loads of fish, just ruin the outing for me. I learned when I was young from my uncles that "let's go fishing" was a code for: Lets get away from these yappy women. ? We'd grab our gear, bait, soda (later on beer), and head out. Our trips varied 2-6 hrs, depending on the bite or time of day we left. Some days/nights were more successful than others. To those that confuse "fishing" with "catching", they need to go find some asian/silver carp. That way they can knock some sense into them. lol

  12. ^--- That's my hope. I got a few friends that are ho/hum about fishing. If I could get them to catch at least one fish using a handline. Then they'd be hooked for life. lol
  13. Do any of you go handline fishing? If so, how often, what does your handline setup look like? What fish do you like to target with your handlines? How is your luck using a handline? Over a year ago I purchased one of those Squiddies handline reels. I haven't used it yet. :( But I plan to soon. I'm even going to try making one made from an old 1 liter bottle. I like the idea of getting back to the basics of fishing (line, hook, bait, fish).
  14. Song for unsuccessful day of fishing. Since I Don't Have You - Guns N' Roses Let's get revved up for some night fishing! After Midnight - Fastway
  15. I recently had a chance to try my luck at Six Mile Waterworks. The rest of the week was focasted to be lousy, so I decided Monday 6/24 was going to be it. It was supposed to be warmer later in the day. That's why I went in the morning. I got to Six Mile Waterworks shortly after the park opened. I passed a few others fishing, so I went to find a spot further down. I don't like to be crowded, so I do it to others. I'm sure they didn't want to hear me cursing out the fish for not biting. Likewise, me hearing them. lol So I took a spot at fishing platform near a bench, it was near the bathrooms. Which makes it even better. lol I noticed next to the platform slide marks for kayaks. I decided to tie on a spinner lizard. After about 10-20 minutes with no luck. So I switched to a spinner worm. I decided to stick with that a bit longer. When I changed I went with a standard artificial worm. I was seeing fish starting to feed. But no luck, even with a few flips near them. It was starting to hotter and muggy for me. So I started to pack up. After about 2hrs+ I left with no bites. I seen many small fish swimming near the shore. There was also some perch feeding close, but no luck. Plenty of other wildlife around, geese, squirrels, chipmunks, rabbits, etc. While I was there a couple guys with USDA Wildlife Services showed up. They put in a couple kayaks for quick paddle around. I'm sure my outing would have been more productive if I could get out on the water. The life of a shore fisherman. lol Anybody have some better spots to try here, lure preferences, etc? I see a spot on the lake map I'd like to try. Hows this spot? Is it easy to get to? I will be back with or without a kayak. It's a nice location, easy to get to. I just need to find my fishing rhythm for this lake.

  17. ^ 8 Let's go way back.
  18. So the overall view is these generics are junk to use. Would they be worth the money/time to get some generics to get some design ideas? I'd like to use the biggies: Mepp's, Panther Martin, Bluefox but the cost of them is high. The ones I seen in stores didn't impress me up close. So I didn't like the idea to buy them. My idea was to buy a variety of styles/sizes to compare. This way I can select designs I like, and make my own. I would measure the sizes in the Janns, Barlows catalogs.
  19. I have some Amz GC money to burn, so I checked to see what they had I could use. ATM I am interested in making my own inline spinners. Would any of you purchase "generic" parts or complete inline spinners? Are any of them worth the money? Or should I stick with big names? Are there any of the "generic" brands listed good? Which ones? https://www.amazon.com/s?k=inline+spinners&ref=nb_sb_noss_1 Would they be good for lure designing only or both design & fishing?

  21. Bank fishing sunset to sunrise is my favorite when it's available. This can be fun for one or a small group. I usually get to the spot about an hour before sunset. Most people are slowly packing up the gear and starting to leave. I get my gear and start fishing. Gradually the others start packing up at or just after sunset. There may be a few people that stay behind. But the excessive noise of loud boats, noisy fisherman (adults & kids) are gone for the most part. All that remains is you (your gear), water, fish, and other nature. Depending on the locations I may use car light, head lamp, lanterns, night bobber, water lamp. Just what is necessary for a nice safe night of fishing. The only noises that I hear are the bzzzzz of my reel, waves, owls, crickets, fish jumping after I set my hook. As for the night hunters, it's mostly a few bats buzzing around. They're just hunting for food (bugs, mice). Other than that no real threat as long as you use common sense. I haven't gone night fishing in a boat or kayak. But I would make similar precautions, and go with at least one other person.
