  1. IMO well worth the money. I bought some on clearance at Cabela's a while back, and now they are the only jig heads I use. Stick with the ball busters, the weed whackers were not that impressive to me.

If they "accidentally" send you some orange, just toss that in there and you have any awsome firetiger colored bait.
  3. The main difference is that usually a true flippin stick is 7'6" or even 8', often has a retractable butt section, and they tend to be either a heavy, or extra heavy power. They are best used for true "flipping" when you peel the line out and lay the lure in the water because their length lets you lay the lure from a farther distance. You can use any rod you like for flipping, and to be honest with you I prefer a 7', MH rod for that most of the time. If you are not fishing areas with heavy grass/weed cover you will probably be fine without a dedicated flipping stick.
  4. Burley, Be careful where you keep your lubes stored. The wife is still mad about the mix up with the smelly jelly. ;D
  5. I have been wondering the same thing here in Missouri. Most of the time we catch fish between 3-5 pounds, but maybe I'm just not enticing the big ones. I have been considering the MattLures baby bass series. 1.5 oz, 5 inches long, beautiful looking baits. My only problem is that since swimbaits are not big around here most places don't carry them, and I hate the thought of paying $5+ shipping per bait.
  6. I just finished reading the article on ESPN.com in their bass fishing section. I thought it was pretty funny, and some of his thoughts on Cali were interesting. http://sports.espn.go.com/outdoors/tournaments/elite/columns/story?page=b_tourn_short_mules_donkeys
  7. Where are you seeing the free shipping. It keeps wanting to charge me $5.75.
  8. I don't know about the ones at Dick's, but I think you are referring to the Premier Plus with the perfect skirt. I have had a lot of success on these, and I fish almost exclusively with 3/8 or 1/2 oz spinnerbaits. Two of my three biggest fish ever have come on these spinnerbaits in the color firetiger.
  9. At least you only mooked up half of the combo. That's one sweet rod that I know you will really enjoy. As for the reel, well........it's a reel. ;D
  10. Man, just finished watching Zac Greinke dealing on his second consecutive great start. 6 innings, 1 earned, 6 K's, and a win. Through his first 13.0 innings he has given up 2 earned and struck out 12, with only 1 walk. I know this doesn't excite you 500 million dollar payroll New Yorkers, but for a Royals fan you find any positive you can. Oh yeah, and Alex Gordon broke his slump with his first major league homer.
  11. I use two set ups for soft plastics as well. I use a 6'6" MF St. Croix Premier spinning rod for finesse plastics, and I use a 7' MHF Fenwick Techna AV baitcaster with a Shimano Citica 100 for bigger plastics. I'm hoping that since forum members here recently bought 45 of the Team Daiwa Z's that one of them will decide to sell their "old" 50MG so I can upgrade my plastics set up.

It's like watching a James Bond movie. I know it's totally unrealistic, but it's still entertaining.
  13. I saw Jon Kruk talking about this on baseball tonight and he made a good point that I had not considered. If you play all the early games in warm weather cities, later in the year those teams will have to play a lot of road games. Those games could come at the end of the year when that team is pushing for a playoff spot. Let's say the Angels have to play 20 road games in September while the Indians get to play 20 home games. It wouldn't be fair. This year has been a freak occurance with the weather, and hopefully it won't happen again for a few years.
  14. 1/2 Strike King Denny Brauer jig with matching netbait paca chuck trailer.

***SPOILER ALERT**** I agree that last nights episode was probably the best of the season, but now that the nuclear threat is over I don't know that the last 6 episodes are a must watch for me.
  16. I have owned two different telescoping rods, and my OPINION of them both is this: I felt like the telescoping blank caused the rod to be less sensitive than the one piece rods I have used as flipping sticks. My other complaint with them is that they are a pain. When pulling the blank out you have to make sure the guides are lined up. Also when they are collapsed the blank will spin, and can get your line wrapped around your rod. I know these are minor things, but they are a nuisance no the less.
  17. I'm sure those rods are nicer than my Fenway Techno AC's.
  18. I'll take that bet against a couple of my combos.
  19. You can absolutely use it for crankbaits. I know guys who use flouro for every application. Despite the myth the flouro doesn't stretch, recent tests have shown it to have as much, or in some cases more stretch than mono.
  20. The choice between siege and elite is a preference thing. Siege is a slightly stronger, more abrasion resistant. Elite is a softer line with a little less memory and a little more managability. Both of them are excellent lines. I think color depends on the water clarity of where you fish. If you fish gin clear water I would go with clear. If your water is stained or muddy you might be better off with green. For me, I prefer the clear blue because it is easier for me to see when I'm watching my line.
  21. Wow 4bizz, I thought I might be the only person around who likes heavy metal and classic outlaw country.
  22. The crankbait rod I have used is a Loomis, and they are great and light, etc. However, I can't justify my first Loomis being a crankbait rod. Now, if I were to first buy a GLX rod for jigs and plastics, and then a spining rod for finesse fishing, maybe I could then justify a Loomis crankbait rod. Hmm........

I could ride a bike, but I don't think leaving my house at 3:00 in the morning, in a suit, on a bike to get to work by 8:00 is a good idea. Besides when I showed up for work smelling like a sewer, and looking like I showered in my clothes, I think my boss might be upset.
  24. Did you guys see that the Astros bullpen blew another game, and wasted a second straight great start. Yesterday Oswalt went 7 2/3 giving up 1 earned run and Lidge blew it in the ninth. Tonight Jennings went 6 and gave up one earned only to see Qualls give up two in the 8th to blow it again. With their weak offense there pen is going to have to close the door when their starter throws a gem.
