  1. Replace the fiberglass! I want to wish you luck sanding that fiberglass with 1800 grit. I own an auto body shop and dont use anything finer than 80 grit on raw fiberglass and 600 on gelcoat. I am not saying that 1800 cant be used but I promise that after sanding for the next 2 years you will want to use something rougher. In case you are not familiar with 1800 grit it is as fine a notebook paper. we use 1500 to sand and polish show cars!
  2. Larry, how do you like your champion? I am looking to get a new boat this fall and several guys in our bass club have champions and I have fished in one today and they are very impressive. My Gambler doesent have enough storage if I draw a non-boater and the rear deck is also small compared to other 20+ foot boat i've been in. GamblerOH
  3. I think yankee got it on this one, The spawn will get going when the water temps get in the mid 50's and stay there(or go up) for a while. Our water is getting in the mid 50's and the fish are already moving up into the muddy creeks.
  4. Hey joe, thats an awesome looking boat. Be sure to let us know how that e-tech does-----Have fun!!
  5. If you are not carefull you will eat yourself right out of a place to fish. GamblerOH
  6. Hey roadwarrior, You had better spool the reels after you get them. I dont think JT uses yo-zuri line. Or be sure to tell JT that you only use yo-zuri hybird and you will be needing it in 8lb test.....LOL GamblerOH
  7. I like to think that they enjoy getting a hook through their jaw!! If this is actually a concern, you may want to take up another sport such as birdwatching.
  8. The way may Gambler is set up right now I get 75mph on gps. I am running a 26 pitch 4 blade trophy. I can go to a 27 3 blade and be over 80 but my boat is way to slow out of the hole with that set up. Speed is important on big lakes, you can make up a bad starting # sometimes if you have a long run. A tournament loaded boat can be very heavy considering full livewells, full tank of gas, gear for 2 people and the weight of the 2 fishermen. If I ran a 27 on my boat during a tournament I would be working my motor to death to get out of the hole. The 26 with 4 blade is the best combination for my boat. The 27 3 blade is a blast when i'm fishing alone though!!!
  9. Sorry to hear that Glenn. I can only imagine how hard it would be to lose a child. My family will be praying for them.
  10. fivebasslimit, I went on marineengine.com and looked up your engine.since I did not know the year I guessed at 1998, I figured that may be a starting point for you. A 1998 evinrude 200 should have 100psi. to be in the acceptable range. Most article I found said they were closer to the 110 range. They also said on some of the rudes the starter will kick out when checking compresion with the plugs out so if this happens you will need to put the plugs back in,this wont be as accurate but will still tell you if all of the cyl's are in range.
  11. ya, try www.marineengine.com it is a great site for mechanical questions. It will most definatley have more than you want to know about your engine. When you get there click on message boards or discussion links?? and then click on outboard engines then scroll for your answer. hope this helps
  12. just screw in the gauge and crank over the engine until the gauge stops going up. I have always heard the psi. should not vary more that 10% from highest cylinder to lowest cylinder but from my experience in the past a good engine wont even vary that much. You need to know what the proper compression should be for your engine. Make sure the throttle is wide open and all of the spark plugs are out.
  13. Dicks has a better selection of "QUALITY "merchandise. wal-mart probally has more "STUFF" though. I personally try to deal with anyone but walmart, since walmart put a few superstores in my area it has really hurt our local tackle shops and gun shops.I try to support locals first,if they dont have it then I go wherever I have to.
  14. The more you practice the better your luck will get!!I have seen people get "lucky" and catch a good bass. Some bass are slow learners(I specialize in those-LOL) so I think they will be caught by anyone near them. I would say if you think bass fishing is luck come to Ohio where we have 42 degree water and see how your luck holds up.I know some very skilled bass fisherman who are still catching bass in this water. Believe me it is not luck.
  15. I use it in my lower unit. My dealer sells lucas products and says it does not affect warranty and for some reason I just like the fact that its synthetic. The old you get what you pay for I guess!!
  16. Trim switch at the wheel is definatley a good idea too! I dont have one on my boat but sometime when i'm not feeling lazy i'll probally install one.
  17. dodgeguy, husky and cobalt are both good tools,i'm not sure where they are made but they are good, and have a good warranty. I'm partial to snap-on though since I was a dealer for 5 years.Luckily I found a better way to make a living. I have to admit I did replace a lot of gears in the fine tooth ratchets though.I was just trying to make a point about MOST things that come from china.
  18. I think you may be right scbassin!
  19. sorry I missed the point skeeter. I would not buy a rod that buzzed even if it was made in the good ole USA.
  20. no problem skeeter, at least you'll be ordering them for the right reasons!! Dodgeguy, you are an auto tech, dont you think there a difference in USA tools and China tools.ie. snap-on compared to ampro from advance auto. surely you have busted your knuckles a time or two when cheap tools break.
  21. I'm sure the women love'em. my wife says I should go ahead and order on just to see if I like it. -LOL
  22. Allstars were made in Houston Texas, I dont know where they will be made now that they have been bought out by shakespeare.I own 4 allstars, 2 titaniums and 2 team allstars, all of them have been great rods. My concern is that the quality will go down now that they come from China. It seems that anything I buy that is made in China turns out to be a mistake.
  23. Save your money, its a gimmick.I wouldnt buy another Allstar either. Now that the majority of lower end($100 and less)allstars are being made in china you never know, maybe that buzzer thing catches fish in china.------LOL
  24. I left my plug out one morning before a tournament. we were sitting waiting on daylight and heard the bilge pump kick on and then it hit me,NO PLUG! luckily we were close enough to the ramp to get the boat out and put the plug in.What would we do without auto bilge pumps????The guys in my bass club sure loved it though!
  25. That is the same trolling motor I have on my boat. I can easily fish 8 hours and still have plenty of charge. It has more than enough power to pull my 21ft. boat on the lower speeds. If theres no wind I will usually fish on speed 1 or 2 at most. Last summer the stator went out on my boat and I trolled about 3 miles back to the ramp after we were done fishing and had no problems at all.A 24v system will be a lot better on batteries than a 12v.
