What Are Some Good Musky Setups?
Don't be surprised if you here about at least one state proposing a tag type system like used for deer. Only 1 tag per season.

What Are Some Good Musky Setups?
I don't see guys posting in a condescending manner about other species of fish. I only see you do that. Regularly.

What Are Some Good Musky Setups?
My comments above only pertain to Musky. Not any kind of saltwater fish. In fact, I really don't like any salt water fish, and would rather do lots of other things than fish for any of them. In fact, I don't really care about the fish either, because sport fish that are not commercially fished manage themselves fine, because they are able to travel, and find ideal spawning locations. Sorry, but your always trying to put your 1/2 cent in that I read as a dig toward bass fishing, and freshwater fishing. NOBODY cares about saltwater fish. This is a bass fishing forum, not a saltwater forum.

What Are Some Good Musky Setups?
A few key reasons. Far and away number one is because of population preservation. They aren't a species with good spawning success, (for many reasons) and being a top predetar are a low population density fish. Because of this EVERY FISH needs to be caught/released. Fish played out on light tackle, are often times literally played to death. The sooner the fish is landed, the sooner it can be released. We have since learned the old tactic of play till they turn belly up results in a high post release mortality rate. The second is the size and weight of the lures used. I don't know of many fish that people use 1lb lures that they CAST with. Because of lure weight you need a heavy rod. Because of the heavy rod, and it's inability to protect light line-you need heavy line. Plus as has been said, I GUARANTEE YOU that any slight loop in the line-even if it isn't a backlash will result in a lost lure if not using heavy line. Those heavy lures snap 80lb line like it's 4lb test.

What Really Grind Your Gears
I hate the fact that when growing up JET SKIS, AND SKIERS were the worst watercraft in the lake, as far as being rude, inconsiderate, ignorant, etc. NOW IT'S FISHERMAN you can count on a FISHERMAN to buzz by you close, cut you off on a spot, motor past so close you could pee on them, etc. Without question, around me anyway, the worst people on the lake are fisherman. Also hate how club tournament fisherman, fishing for $75 in winnings think they own the lake AND think they are the next KVD

Personally I like 100lb braid better. Not because you need 100lb, but because it is more impact resistant. I've lost lures on backlashes before with 80lb. 7'6 Believe it or not, is a short rod nowadays. With that said though, I still like em' for casting crankbaits. They are short enough to do some jerking/twitching while cranking. 7' is better for actual jerkbaits, and walk the dog top waters. For anything else, most guys are using 8'6 and even 9'. I think with your current rod, depending on how tall you are, and how your boat is setup, could be used for jerks and walk the dogs. A blade rod is pretty important. 9' would be my choice for longer casts, deeper/bigger figure 8's, and easier to change directions during the retrieve. Some of my favorites-Phantom regular and softail jerkbaits, A double 10 bladed bait of your choice, Triple D for any cranking not in HEAVY weeds, Depthraider-non jointed in heavier weeds. Saftey pin spinnerbaits (because not many musky guys use them), Delong killer eel-prerigged soft jerkbait with killer action, and Bulldogs. The trend has been bigger and bigger over the years. Some of the pounder bulldogs are almost 1lb-15-16oz THAT is why I think it's crazy about guys asking if a Bama rig will wear you out. If so, bass fisherman are a whole bunch more sissied than Musky fisherman.

Favorite Whiskey?
Anyone ever use whiskey to marinate steaks? Thought about using some wild turkey as a basis for marinating some beef.

Favorite Whiskey?
I half expected to see the pappy's 20 year being a billion dollars, but comparing wine prices when out to eat with the wife, the pappys isn't that bad.....Still out of my price range though.

What Really Grind Your Gears
I was going to post that not much does, then I read this and it reminds me. I REALLY hate it when "elders" think they deserve respect only because they are old, but are downright NASTY people. There is no reason for it, other than because they are old, they think they can get away with it. I've known plenty of older folks who were GREAT! So it's not just a part of getting old.

So Who Do You Want To Win The Classic
Swindle, Martens, Ike, KVD, the federation qualifier, whoever that is, Tim Horten if he is even in it, after that, I don't care.

The Five Percent Or The Other Ninety-Five Percent
ya 5% # is bunk. Ignoring all else, even that study doesn't give a complete story. Tournament fishing, (esecially with weeknight series events) isn't really fishing for size. It is, but catching 5 fish is the first priority. Take the catch of all those who DO NOT tournament fish, PLUS the guys who DO tournament fish-but the catches they have when not tournament fishing; You will end up with a much higher number.

The Bass Pros
That isn't BS on his end. It DOES have erratic action. I was amazed when I saw it on Hook N Look.....You could really see it with the under water shot.

Line Size And Type For Jerk Baits
If you had to compare the C21 to CXX, and Big Game, what would you say about it?
-
Shaky Head Jig Sizes
1/16, and 1/8. Never heavier than that. I as of yet have not fished it in deep water. I might step up to a 3/16 for deeper water, or when fishing something that is going to fall slower.
-
Line Size And Type For Jerk Baits
Maybe it depends on the equipment you use. For example I like a rod for jerkbaits, and crankbaits that is stiffer than most use. But I also use Berkley Big Game for both. Which stretches quite a bit. Definately more than YZ, or P-line CXX. I may switch to YZ or CXX though, simply because of the abrasion resistance.

How Long Before You Change?
Depends. Sometimes I'll switch, othertimes I'm trying to learn something new, or experiment on the lake we are on...Then I'll stick with other things. I've also been out times where I'm getting whacked in numbers, and I'll stick with a Jig, vs say a wacky worm, and I'll bring much more size to the boat so I stick with the jig.

Birth Control Suggestion
I have always felt that the kids being expensive bit was overplayed. Then I started buying sports equipment for the older boys. BUT the biggest expense IS ALL THE STUFF THEY BREAK

Skip Cast With A Baitcaster
Sorry didn't see the last one about skipping with a baitcaster. But I'll still stand by my feeling that it doesn't make any sense to skip with a baitcaster. Baitcasters are better.....At some things. But skipping isn't one of them. 3 points. Baitcasting reels by design, just are not made for it. Spinning reels allow the lure to fall freely once it gets to the back of the dock. Free fall=spinning is better. While guys are practicing for god knows how long, and/or picking out backlashes, guys with a spinning rod will be catching fish.

Restoring A Boat Thats Been Sitting A While
A year ago my boat looked like this....That is the interior, that I shoveled out of it. Anything is possible. It isn't done yet, but needless to say, it doesn't look anything like that anymore.
-
Skip Cast With A Baitcaster
With braid, and a MH spinning rod, I just don't see the point of all the headaches.

How Much Can I Really Tow?
Wet boat ramps are not the issue when looking at towing capacity. Transmission longevity, Braking capacity, and stability when traveling down the road are what is important. I think you would be fine at 3500lbs, and I'll be a Z7 or Z6 fits in that weight range. You can make a few modifications to really make things feel much better. Brake pads. NOT parts store brake pads. Hawk brake pads....Online suppliers will have them, and I can recommend the best place to buy them. An extra transmission cooler. Above and beyond the factory cooler. Air bags installed in the rear coil springs.
