  1. Ever see how they make Fois Gras? Or, see one of those livers removed!!!!????
  2. Agreed. I would argue they are the best possible fish to harvest. From a management standpoint. They self manage, meaning they have great spawning success, and the catch limits are much smaller, for say Bluegill. So Bass=self manage, and you aren not allowed to overharvest. Bluegill=self manage-you certainly can overharvest Northern Pike-good spawning success but because of size low population density. Low allowed harvest. Musky-I'll beat you with a bat Perch-low quanities, and overharvest make them not very common near me Walleye, again not terribly successful spawners in the lakes up here, and low quanities, and EVERYONE keeps them, so they are succeptable to overharvest.
  3. It will likely have more memory than XL....Should't be a ton though. I have no problems with it on spinning reels even (8lb on spinning-dropping down to 6lb though) However, XL is about as good as your going to get as far as memory. I just don't see memory as being an issue with casting equipment though. But I also don't use really heavy weight line.
  4. Anyone ever plank a white flesh fish? I've never done it, and see it mostly done with Salmon. My wife finally came around to fish, so I want to plank some Northern Pike or Walleye this year.
  5. You will love it then. The 12lb will be about the same breakign strength. It will stretch much less, and be much more abrasion resistant than what you are using.
  6. The longer the rod the longer the handle. I have a BPS J/M Elite from a couple years ago I'd actually like to have the handle shortened on. It's a 7'6 rod too. Then again, maybe I just need to use it more in the boat, and less in the back yard creek.
  7. 6'6 MH. You don't really lose much of anything by having a shorter rod, but you gain a bunch by not banging the side of the boat, or catching on limbs if fishing from shore/close to shore. I use a 6'6 Falcon Lowrider xg, MH F, for jerkbaits and wouldn't have it any other way. Can't stand when a more moderate tip, and/or softer rod absorbs the action I'm trying to impart.
  8. It has a pretty high break strength. If I were to chose 15lb in other lines, I would choose 12 in the Y/Z. Definately less stretch than Mono. More than a high end flouro.
  9. If buying new-BPS Pro Qualifier, or others in your price range. Used however, opens up many options, and 100bucks should be able to buy you a pretty nice reel.
  10. I've used every hook out there, and for the longest time would only use Owner/Gmakatsu....These BPS hooks are good hooks. Like I said, chances are the BPS hooks are made by them anyhow...Or, at the very least made by a big hook manufacturer. (Owner/gammy,mustad)
  11. Desert Craw. Reminds me of a sunset in a desert, or one of those pictures with the weird lights overhead at night.
  12. That's the only thing I use too. Their XPS hooks. Good hooks, great price. And chances are they are built by one of the big hook manufacturers anyhow.
  13. Don't forget wire size, matched to the LB/test line you are fishing.
  14. You aren't the only one it's so new, why give away all your ideas. fwiw I think some people (not the O.P.) want to be spoon fed the exact A-rig, lures/baits, heads, rod/reel, line etc. I'm looking at as simply:A way to present "schooling bait". And that opens up about 1,000 or more different ways to rig this setup.
  15. Ya, it's still luck of the draw, when it comes to who you fish with. They want you to sign up like that so they have a set number of boaters/non boaters.
  16. Disclaimer:I'm a cheapskate. I use backing for everything. The only thing I don't is if the line I'm using is so cheap I would use it for backing anyhow....As an example I still am using Berkley Big Game for crankbaits, and I don't back those. Everything else I back.
  17. Don't forget, that boater is just a way to gaurantee your spot. Chances are you won't actually fish with him.
  18. Ahhhh I didn't even notice that for some reason. Ya, looks like they both offer them. Of the two, to me it seems the Humminbird would be the better unit because you can switch between Down Imaging, and regular sonar, The Lowrance is Down Scan only.
  19. I'm curious if what your asking is possible as well. Can you turn a DI transducer sideways to use it as a SI unit?
  20. Check the post above yours. Humminbird has the same thing. Even their largest unit is now going to be offered in down imaging only for a reduced cost compared to the SI/DI unit.
  21. Again based on my limited experience, flouro does have less stretch. It will stretch, but it comes at a MUCH closer to total breaking strength figure than does mono. Mono will start stretching almost right away with some mono's
  22. In my opinion yes....Maybe not all flouro will do it. I know Vicious, Pline 100%, and Berkley 100% will.
  23. I remember that bugging me when I was fishing with my dad/brother when I was 12 years old. Then again, I'm sure when you are 12, you think you know everything.
  24. Robert, some of that "light years ahead" thing has tapered off. The economy, and company restructering thing absolutely made engineering departments slow down, and look at minor changes to existing products. What new "innovations" that could have been developed on larger and/or flagship models are being put to use on cost reduction and developing new models. Of course there will be exceptions-but usually flagship models like the new skeeter/sho boat aren't something that just gets banged out over the course of a model year.....They can spread out the engineering hours over a much longer time.
