Only thing I would say about that though, is that if the fish are finicky enough to require baits like that, the wire/head of the rig itself may turn fish off. With that said, I do agree that this can be used in many different ways. Not just fullsize swimbaits on jig heads with a total weight the size of a Musky jerkbait.

yes you can use both. I like Hot Sauce oil, because it maintains the most consistent viscosity through a wide temperature range. I use Cal's drag grease for all points that need grease, Typically, I'll grease the drag system, even if delivered from the factory dry.

It could be just me, but it seems like the OZ weight of fishing reels has become a race similar to the HP race in Diesel pickups. Regardless of the compromises made, lighter is I guess better. Personally I don't have a problem with a heavy as a ton of bricks reel (by today's current standard anyway) (I would like to have a Core 50 though )

It's not as bad as it sounds. You can find virtually anything used on craigslist. If you buy used, the prop isn't an issue on the motor. Trailer tires last a long time. Especially on a light rig, and battery chargers are cheap. Trailer lights are cheap, if needed.

My issue exactly as well. I like golf. But anything I'm not good at I want to practice to get better, and I just can't afford to go golfing as much as it would take. In fact, some courses are so high, and CC memberships have dropped so much, it almost pays to just join a CC if you are a serious golfer.

Ya the impulse buying was always good for ending up with a bunch of stuff you don't need. Every year I would have to pare down tackle, and get rid of stuff that didn't work, or I wouldn't use. this time last year I decided to only buy what I want/need, and not just because it's cheap. But it's still hard to see deals like this.

I agree. A trolling motor is something you need. In your case, buying a boat, and on a budget, you could always buy used, or even a transom mount trolling motor.

If fishing without a boat, I would just get a boat, the minumum requirements type stuff like OOMOD posted, and then fish. You can always upgrade as you use it. For me though, I call a battery, and trolling motor a requirement, and again for me, a depthfinder. Depthfinders can be bought used, and you can get much more bang/buck that way. If planning an outboard, that is another battery. Gas tank, and fuel line, can be a surprisingly expensive purchase that you will need if you don't buy a boat w/motor, or a motor with a tank/hose

You could always fish the 5 wire rig, only rig 3 of them with hooks. That way you get a bigger "schooling" effect.

I've seen LOTS of boats go from shells, to fully blown bass rigs, and everything in between. OO Mod, has a nice boat, that I believe is a modified hull turned bass rig.

Cut costs on the reel. No doubt about it. Pflueger President, or even look for a used Supreme, and then put the $$$$$ into the rod.

I musky fish too, and see lots of their baits have a similar wire/line tie/bill arrangement. I just wouldn't know how to do it. I guess it would be simpler if I just bought one with the line tie already molded in. Are there any to avoid?

Guy's I'm not a tackle builder. I've painted a few jigs, and tied skirts and that is IT. I don't really know what you mean in the quote above. Got a picture? How can you add a line tie to any diving bill?

Actually, I'm fine with making my own bills, but since the line tie is in the middle of the bill, I didn't think a home built model would work, since the bills had the wire line tie molded into them.

I have some old cedar crankbaits I want to resurrect this winter. The line tie/wire has broken loose in the bill, and they just won't work this way. Even tried to epoxy the line tie into the bill.....no dice. So, I'm at the remove and replace stage. Where are you guys buying these? My main concern is line tie durability. I can, and will re-shape them to match the originals.

You will get people bashing on them, but the simple fact is, because of their buying/selling power in the fishing community, they are able to offer products that are, in most cases, a better bang for your buck than you will find elsewhere.

BPS crankin' stick, BPS Pro Qualifier in 5.4.1 Don't let that money burn a hole in your pocket, and you'll be out there door with this setup, come spring, for a GREAT price. Both rod and reel are good choices. FOR ME, one crank rod doesn't serve all purposes. A M, and a MH, in 7', or 7'-M, 7'6 MH, works best for me. The M cranking rods are just to limber for me when fishing big cranks. I actually have a BPS cranking stick in Medium, for small to medium cranks, and a 7'Falcon Lowrider in MH for medium to deep cranks. I really like the stiffer, faster action rods for cranking-vs what others use, and what is popular.
