  1. If your area is anything like this area, the fish are so conditioned to a white spinnerbait it's not even funny. That's probably the issue. Not the construction of the baits your using.
  2. I would like to see the opinions of everyone on technology in fishing.
  3. The smiley face was meant to say I was kidding in that I'm not taking shots at Bill Dance. He's a good old guy. But I have no use for spinner baits....At least around here.
  4. spinnerbaits are only good in small private lakes with no fishing pressure.
  5. IMO for a truly balanced setup, using a heavier reel never works. In my experience and opinion anyhow. For spinning rods they are usually light enough, that going light feels fine to me. With some casting rods/setups I like to put a balancing weight on the handle.
  6. All a part of life. Things test you to make you stronger....Things will get better for you, just hang in there. When you are young, you take things like this harder, and it's harder to realize things will get better, but they will.
  7. The human weight scaled out would work, but would still be considered woefully unreliable. If you want to release a musky that big it shouldn't be held vertical, so the boca grip isn't needed.
  8. That's the problem. If the 69'15 is overturned spray's fish, and johnson's fish need to be as well. I've got the old Musky Hunter Magazines from the 90's when he ran all the witch hunt, and in defense of spray articles....They (MHM) seem to have taken a MUCH more neutral position on the subject these days.
  9. I can't disagree with you there.....But, some of his evidence seemed convincing. Problem is some of the fish from WI, seem to have at least as much evidence to suggest their size was over stated too.
  10. if a release is planned, there is no good way to scale a musky that size.
  11. Acording to the IGFA, and the National Fresh Water Fishing Hall Of Fame, it already is illegitimate.
  12. If someone I am with is catching more, I generally just try to learn from it and not get my panties in a bunch. I'm only like the person(s) you posted about when fishing with my brother. (so Shimmy I guess I'm that guy too, sometimes ) I never say anything, and neither does he, but I know he is that way too.
  13. Now that's funny right there.
  14. Not yet, and hope not too. I have never, nor will I ever remove ANY treble hook without some form of pliers. For me anyway, using pliers reduces the risk enough, that I won't do it any other way.
  15. A longer boat will be wider, and heavier making it ride better, and be more stable. Without seeing this lake, I'm guessing it will get pretty rough. My home lake is only a hair over 800 acres, and it can get really rough too. I prefer not getting blown off the lake, no matter the conditions.
  16. IMO get a V bottom. A lake that size can get really rough. Also, one of the key's for me, a wide, deep V bottom boat will handle much bigger, rougher water than a mod V or flat bottom boat. At least when comparing sizes. A really wide deep 16' boat would be safe (using common sense) on pretty big water. A 16' mod v or flat bottom is going to be confined to smaller inland lakes. As for the deck, even when not all the way to the top, they are plenty high enough to fish from. I'm only 5'10, and I don't find any issue in working jerkbaits on that style deck. Only difference is you use a little shorter rod. Even still I use a 6'6 rod for jerkbaits. If you are handy, score a great deal on a boat, and build/modify it yourself. Like 00 MOD said, tinboats is a pretty good place. Here is my build going on over there. A 17' Sea Nymph...Originally a walk thru windshield boat, converting it to tiller w/65hp Evinrude. http://www.tinboats.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=16904
  17. I should not speak for jfranco, but I have a feeling that post he dissected may have been triggered by some matter of fact type posting from one of the members here.... Truth is, ALL this stuff is opinion/personal preference.
  18. So what was the beef about with those guys anyhow? I like skynyrd for sure, but N/Y has some good songs.
  19. Unless they changed them in the last year or two, the President 30, is actually a smaller size than the Supreme 30 size reel. Not sure why they were doing that. The President you would want should be a 35.
  20. Even better would be to fish with them.....I've checked out a few in-store that I thought were garbage, but work great, and seem to be holding up fine. (the large spool BPS spinning reels come to mind)
  21. Gots ta have the bling. FWIW a $60 president will perform the job better IMO. Won't be as nice or blingy, but will get the job done. I'm sure there are other sub $100 spinning reels that would too. Sometimes though, having something that is really nice, is worth the cost/headache
  22. It's hard to argue with the reliability of a Pflueger President. Same goes for the old Tournament SS Daiwa. I like the Pflueger Supreme, and feel OK recommending them. Can't be beat for around 100 bucks IMO
  23. Keep in mind here by me, there are LOTS of little lakes. Biggest within an 1-1/2 drive is 2000 acres, with nearly all being 1000 or below, and most being below 600 acres. I've changed my perspective a bit since living sort of on a lake that used to have tons of tournaments. For one it jams up the public access site, making it nearly impossible for others not fishing the tournament to get on the lake. On some lakes we are talking not just fishing, but recreational boating as well. All this=complaints Property damage.....One tournament had guys parking in grassy areas on an approach road, as well as in a farmers field. An extreme amount of increased fishing pressure. Not just from the tournament itself, but from guys trying to "learn the lake". An 800 acre lake should not, and IMO can not handle 70+ tournaments per summer.
  24. Ya I remember SNES had a few good fishing games....
  25. Dropper....I was under the impression that is what he (person I quoted) was talking about. But ya, that is what I was saying. No way would a tag one length of dropper as being best.....In my experience the best can vary a bunch.
