  1. I feel almost as though I have to use facebook. It simplifies communication between folks at our boys school, us, parents, football team, parents of the football players etc. When I need to contact parents of kids on the team, I can just post something to facebook instead of sitting down and making 30 different phone calls.
  2. 7'M XF covers so many techniques IMO. Can use that for almost everything you would want to use on a spinning rod. Since you only have one now, and didn't specify what you wanted to use it for, I'm assuming you want something as universal as you can find, and I think the above rod fits the bill.
  3. Really, there are a TON of rods in that price range. The Abu Rods, Falcon, shimano, BPS, and a bunch of others. Heck since you work at Gander, IMO they even carry some nice rods. ALL my Musky rods are from them.
  4. Check this out guys. http://www.geoindustries.net/apps/webstore/products/show/302662 Pretty neat setup. Rear pedestal base mounted camera mount.
  5. If I were you, I would drive over to D&R sports and have a look yourself. Personally they aren't my favorite. Just based on the observations in store. I think there are other options in that price range that are better rods. D&R doesn't have tons of rods, but he does have a good selection of brands, and at least a handful of each one.
  6. After making the transition from Mono to co-polymer to flouro several years ago, I'm leaning more and more to a co-poly. What I lose when going to a co-polymer (vs staying with a Flourocarbon) I more than make up for by being able to go to a much smaller diameter. All my spinning outfits are going to be spooled with 6lb, and casting rods, 10lb co-polymer. Even my Jig rod. So, I checked other.
  7. I agree with everything you say. Sometimes you do 'need' certain things that seem nice, but those times are not all the time. For instance, your jon boat would be totally unsafe to fish St Clair or other big water lakes. Then again, you don't have to spend 50k for a boat that IS safe on those waters. As for lures, I can fit everything I want to fish with on any given day into one 3700 Plano. Some jigs, a couple packs of trailers, drop shot weights/worms, senko's some hooks, and rubber O-rings and I'm usually good to go
  8. LOL. In that case, you guys must be right. I will get some mend-it and start using it.
  9. In his lake map, both "points" have contours that follow the same shoreline pattern as the rest of the shoreline around it. The point in the lake map I pointed out, actually contains a point on the water side not just shore side. To clarify my point:Ignore shoreline points, and concentrate on lake contour line points.
  10. That would just be shoreline cover.... To me, a point is only a point if it contains underwater contour changes that mirror a point. In this picture, Walkers point, IS a point because it contains underwater contours in point form. As opposed to a shoreline point without any underwater contour change.
  11. Since most of my area lakes are just a main lake here is my opinion. A main point is a large point. Starting with the largest in the lake and working down. Usually jutting out perpendicular to the shoreline. A secondary point, to me is a point that juts off of one of the before mentioned points. Also, I don't consider a point, a point unless it is an underwater point. Land points are more wind/current directors than structure. All of course IMO. EDIT: See to me BOTH that are circled are not points at all.
  12. To be honest, I can't either. But, even still, that's about 5 packs of Senko's, which honestly doesn't last that long. The cost issue that drives me nuts is some of the swim baits. Especially considering their cost compared to Musky baits, which aren't cheap, but can be much cheaper than Bass swimbaits.
  13. I may actually do that. Tie in a 15lb flouro leader. I've only tied in line when tieing backing and main line together. Is a blood knot, or uni-knot strong enough to joint 15 or 17lb flouro to 10lb Y/Z Hybrid? I think I could get away with that heavy a line because I use a small snap at the line tie for free range of motion for more action.
  14. Now you need to find a way to keep claws on Paca Chunks and Chigger Chunks. That way I can copy it.
  15. Who sells SINGLE tail Hula grubs besides Yamamoto? Nothing against them, just wondering if there are other options.
  16. Just wondering if anyone has ever switched rods, or upgraded to a better rod, when using the expediter program? Do you just pay the $50 + the difference, or is this not something they do?
  17. Just a thought.....Considering the cost of a bag of soft plastics these days, and how long those last, the cost of hard baits really isn't that bad. Keep that in mind, and the sting of some of the $15+ Jerkbaits won't seem so bad.
  18. I do think color matters, but almost as important to me, with my jig choices, is the weather conditions. Specifically brightness of the sky.
  19. when fishing from the bank, consider the surroundings where you will fish. A rod 7' or more can be very cumbersome with vegetation/brush/trees around you. Our back yard borders a creek that has some nice bass in it. I end up having to use a 6'6 rod to fish it, because of the overhead tree. I normally don't use a rod that short on the lake unless I'm tossing jerkbaits.
  20. Not sure what your budget is, but you can pick up Lowrance H20's on ebay for a good price, and load cards with lakes of your choice, using map create 6 or 7
  21. Depends on where you are fishing. BIG lakes, like some of you get to fish, you are right. Fish might be negative in one area, and biting in another. My biggest lake I fish, is 800 acres, with lots of others 400 or less. You can find random biters if the fish are "off" but in general, if they are off, they are off. It's not so bad actually. Helps to develop a decent pattern pretty fast.
  22. I use superbraid to tie my jigs. I have a few spools I don't use, all 80lb. I trim the tag ends with really sharp scissors, and add some clear nail polish to the threads. Been making them this way for a few years now.
  23. Can you buy pre-fabbed bills with the line tie molded in? I have a bunch of old Poe's Crankbaits, but everyone of them have a broken line tie on the bill.
  24. I have had some reluctance buying pointers because of the Northern Pike up here. I'm not interested in losing 15 dollar lure every time I go out. AND I'm really against this high dollar bass bait movement. With all that said, I've never seen a jerkbait produce on any level even close to a L/C Pointer. At least up here.
