I usually change mine with Gamakatsu short shanks. Some times (especially with the RC STX) you have to experiment with hooks, split rings, etc to get it to suspend correctly. Good thing it was on Curt's bait then!

For those of you that use Luck-E-Strike RC STX, here is a reminder to change the hooks. I happened to be using the only one of the RC STX that still had stock hooks. This was from one wiper that hit (or should I say destroyed) and ran then came off. It happened a couple times. The final straw was when about a 12" white straightened them. Knew it was time to change

Can't forget the fish the "Curt Special" caught... All kidding aside, that jerkbait worked really well for me including catching the largest of the day. Thanks again Curt!

Yeah, who knew a 3 lb largemouth would come completely out of the water after a red squarebill seconds after it lands before I even engage the spool?? Obviously January fishing! It sure was fun though. Any day you can get bass thumb in January is a good day, even if you can't feel body parts by the end of the day. As far as the flotation device, Brian and I figured since Conor packed on some extra weight this winter, he wouldn't need a life jacket to float ... only kidding!

Airbrush Paints
Thanks Bob! I passed the info onto him to let him decide what he wants to do as far as clear coating. Over the holiday, he and I painted a crankbait... Here is the first attempt (it isn't clear coated yet) The airbrush he currently has isn't a good one by any means. No control of air pressure or paint flow. I would describe the flow as more of spitting rather than spraying. He really enjoyed painting it though so last night he ordered a better airbrush and supplies. Needless to say, hes "hooked"

I would love to get in on some of these weeknighters as long as they aren't on Thursdays. Thursday is my late night working and I can't take off early since I am the only one in the office.

Airbrush Paints
Thanks Bob. Never can trust anything Hi Salenity says . With the dipping sealants, if he only does a few baits and then takes a couple months off, will the can of sealant dry or harden?

Sure does look nice. I would definitely fish out of it with you If you are set on that boat, you could always tell him that. You could tell him, if I can hear/run the motor, I'm sold. Sure, re-winterizing it would be a pain if the sale doesn't go through but remind him if the $10,000 is worth the risk of having to re-winterize it.

Airbrush Paints
Thanks again for the info for clear coats. I think he actually has some stuff but if not, now I know what to tell him. I would prefer a 110 but I'm not picky. Santa may have something for you as well.

One other question that I forgot to ask, what do you guys use for clear coats?
-
Airbrush Paints
Well that sounds like it would be easy enough to paint. I actually have one pretty similar to what you describe but it is an H2O jerkbait. Grey crackle back, white/foil sides, chart belly. Took it to the vern this past spring in our get together and my first 5 casts caught 5 whites...it was fun but wrong species.

Being that I reminded you of that, I think I deserve one... also since those are my alma mater's colors (South Dakota State University)

Airbrush Paints
Sure I will take some practice baits. I ordered him some from predator to make (including their practice 2.5 crankbaits). If you would like him to paint you some, I'm sure it would give him a purpose. If you'd like to bring the junk and blanks to the "party" Thursday night I will be glad to pick them up and bring them to him. Duh... why didn't I think of Ebay?? Thanks for that!

Airbrush Paints
My father has started using an airbrush to paint model cars in his spare time. I decided to get him some crankbait blanks for Christmas. From the reading I have done on this forum, it sounds like many of you like Createx paints. My question is, what are some common colors that are used in a lot of patterns to get him started? Any suggestions would be great. Thanks guys.

Count me in with possibly a plus one. I can give you a ride but since I live near you if you'd like.

Overall Advice For Anyone Interested In Tacklemaking
I bought the worm nose jig mold to make mushroom jig heads for using the Ned rig. Some of the lakes we fish in this area have zebra muscles so it is far cheaper to pour your own than spend $1 on each jig.

Breaking In A New Rod & New Pb! In December?
Then you would have lost because the only thing Curt catches out of LaCygne with jigs is flat heads and the steel cables . That being said, I would gladly catch a one of his flatheads from that lake!

Hang in there Scrogg. Like Curt said, 30 lbs is a lot to drop. Rapid weight loss and high stress can cause other problems, so please be careful. Just remember, you have a forum thread here with probably 20 members that are here to help you through this.
