  1. It was the legal shine... The stuff you can buy at some liquor stores. Pretty good too
  2. Let me tell you. Moonshine definitely has a warming sensation at 7:30 in the morning... Found that out at the last get together. See if I ever tell my partner no drinks til we boat a fish. Just so happened he caught a 17.5" smallmouth on the very next cast.
  3. Anyone bringing hot tea? Looks like it may be a little cool
  4. I have the same reel and love it. Gotta love hand me downs haha.
  5. I have used this technique and it works quite well. I tend to use pliers instead if fingers and it works just as well. Just need to be careful not to nick the gills. This works so well that when I see a gut hooked fish, I don't even try to remove it any other way.
  6. I have not used the Mann's 12" before but here is an example of the size of fish big worms can catch. This was on a 10" rage tail anaconda.
  7. Had the day off from school today so I went out to Wabaunsee again to see if I could do better than Saturday. I did do better, but not by much. I ended with about 20 bass the biggest being a 18" 3.63lb largemouth caught on a jig.
  8. Took my wife and a friend to Wabaunsee yesterday. The conditions had changed quite a bit from Clayton's report. We had only about 8-12" of visibility with a nasty green slime on the surface. We caught roughly 30 fish between the 3 of us but really only 3 worth mentioning. I caught a pretty skinny 17" largemouth on a finesse jig that weighed 2.87 lbs. My buddy Cameron caught a 17" largemouth that weighed 3.42 lbs on a 4" worm. Elizabeth caught the longest, a very skinny 20" smallmouth on a Ned rig. I weighed it 3 times because I couldn't believe it but it only weighed 3.18 lbs. We couldn't really figure out any patterns. They ate pretty much any soft plastic we threw at them, they just didn't eat very much.
  9. I like this idea and am all for it but just remember, the lake is 2 hours away and there are boat and fishing fees so this might deter people even more.
  10. Last weekend I had really good luck in South Dakota on a watermelon and purple finesse jig with a net bait paca chunk in bama bug red. Not sure how that would work at LOZ but the clarity in the lakes I fished up there was similar. I have had decent luck around here with a brown/green pumpkin-ish jig I made.
  11. Here's a thought, maybe we should include a "biggest junk fish" category for anything besides bass.
  12. Took the wife to Wabaunsee yesterday to enjoy the weather and hopefully some nice fish. We ended with around 30 bass. Like Bluebasser said, most came on jigs. The ned rig was very popular with small bass and bluegill though. We didn't catch any huge fish but we caught our share of decent ones. The two biggest were a 3.61lb 19" smallmouth and 2.87lb 18" largemouth. I had my heart broken twice though. First was a drum that looked to be about 3 pounds. Next was 5.11lb flathead. That was my first flathead so I wasn't too upset about that.
  13. Thanks for the feedback guys. I will give that a try this weekend
  14. The lake I'm talking about is 310 acres. I think we are talking about two different lakes here. Bluebasser told me to give it a try so I figured why not. http://kdwpt.state.ks.us/news/Fishing/Where-to-Fish-in-Kansas/Fishing-Locations-Public-Waters/Region-5/Garnett-Cedar-Creek-Valley-Reservoir
  15. The are a 4/0 hook on 5/16 and 3/8 oz round ball jigs. So far I've used the 3rd (trimmed to about 1/4" past the hook bend) and last. Both worked but still waiting for a fish to brag about.
  16. Went to Cedar Creek Valley yesterday on my day off from school. Not sure if this is normal for that lake, but the clarity was about 5 inches. Managed to catch about 10 bass but caught a bunch of everything else. I caught crappie, sunfish, catfish, drum, as well as bass...all on crankbaits. I did manage to catch a few on jigs, though none big, and an 18" largemouth on a black buzzbait.
  17. I plan on trimming them. Right now they have just had the tabs cut off.
  18. Tell me what you guys think. If you have any suggestions please let me know. Thanks in advance.
  19. Yeah I'll shoot you a text around noon Friday. Hopefully you have good news.
  20. Went to Miami SFL Saturday with my wife to fish and work on my outboard. Didn't catch a ton but I think between the two of us we caught around 30 in 5 hours. Got the outboard working again so that was the main goal. Probably to to Olathe or somewhere close Friday afternoon just to make sure it works again before I go to a lake where I actually need it.
  21. I'd be up for that. Put me down as a boater with a partner. One question. Since they have to inspect the boat and everything, is there a certain time they open?
  22. The biggest was maybe 16". The rest were small.
  23. Went to Miami SFL today with a buddy. The lake has really gotten weedy so we primarily used frogs which was fine with us. Between the two of us we had 51 largemouth, a sunfish and almost a snake.
  24. When I fished Melvern Saturday, the ramp was ~70 but the main lake points on the south side were around 60.
  25. Haha I wish that tiny bass would have been 4.5lbs. I definitely would have taken a picture of it.
