Manns 12" Jelly Worm

Featured Replies

OK, I have had the 12" jelly worm for a while and have tried it a time or two at most.  It's just really large and can't imagine the couple pound bass in my area would even chase it.

I was at BPS the other day and asked one of the emplyees if they ever used it with any success.  He gave me the same reply.  used it once maybe twice with no luck

so that leads me to this........has anyone used this worm?  any luck?

If you have had success, how have you rigged it?  Good ol' t-rig?

I love big worms. I don't think i would even use a worm less than 10" unless I was using like a drop shot or some other finesse technique. One of my best produding presentations of the summer has been the 11" Mega Miki (not the jelly worm but still a big a$$ worm). Just T-Rig it along the edges of weedlines, or drag it across some mats and that seemed to work for me. Granted you probably won't catch a lot of numbers, but I was very happy with the quality of the fish.

I have never used 12", but I remember that years ago some folks rigged big worm with some of the line threaded right in the center of the worm for first few inches before rigged the hook t-rig style...

Yep, it's a good bait for low light conditions and night fishing. I've caught 10 inchers on them so don't be afraid to fish them. 2 pounders have no problem eating them.

If you don't believe in the 12" Jelly Worm, you should watch this.......

Yep. Have to be fished slow either weightless or Texas rigged, on top of the water, pads and through grass or on the bottom.

Can drive you nuts if you are like me, ADD. I like moving baits and fishing fast so when I have thrown this bait I do not do well.

Never had a strike with it. Probably 100% my fault.

But you give it a shot and let us know if you have better success.

Great video...Paul Elias' record still stands!

I just bought a pack of these couple days ago and used one for the first time yesterday. I had it texas rigged and was fishing it in some pads in the pond in my apartment complex when my wife called. I got a hit while I was on the phone and I missed the hookset. I had only been fishing it for a few minutes when that happened, and the only other thing I've caught fish on in that pond so far is senkos, so that was enough to convince me that they could work in the right situation.

So can this worm work just as well if there is no surface cover like pads?  Im in complete open water.......

Fished deep around points, 10 and 12 inch plastic worms are very effective.

I got two packs of the manns jelly worms this summer grape and black in 12 inch and I caught a few decent fish on them..some people have told me they caught monsters on them over the years idk I only texas rigged them with a 3/8 tungston and didnt commit to them to much.. just here and there..three pounds was prob my biggest..

Don't know about Mann's, but 10" and 12" black Power Worms are my favorite baits just about anywhere, including small ponds.  Don't believe there's a 3, 4 or 5 in a small pond?  Throw that -- and it'll still catch 1-2 pounders.

I like the bigger worms this time of year.  It seems around here that the bass will start going after bigger baits before they will hit a finesse bait.

I have not used the Mann's 12" before but here is an example of the size of fish big worms can catch. This was on a 10" rage tail anaconda.

Hold on to them!! I’ve still got a few packs in black grape, grape and strawberry. These are saved for tournament use, when it’s time to go after the kicker fish.

12” Jelly Worm on a 5/0 Ryugi EWG with a 1/8oz weight is the deal in the summer. Strawberry when it’s sunny and calm, grape along the tire walls at the marina, black grape at night in the shallows.

I pray that the rumors of Johnny Morris buying what was left of Mann’s are true, and that he brings back some of the OG Mann’s lineup.

Fulks Custom Cranks bought the remainder of their 1- lineup and has been custom painting them and selling those. From what I know, he's already sold a good bit of the leftover blanks. I think he's looking into getting a reproduction run made with slightly better materials.

Good to know!!

That's a shame Mann's is out of business. Still have several of Hank Parker's Classic Spinner baits and several Manns' Minus Baby One. Caught some bass with 'em.  Hank Parker and Paul Elias were integral in making the company successful in a different time.

Good Fishing

Back when the Jelly worm came out the only real competition in that market was flip tail.

I have a picture somewhere of me at the Mann's factory in Eufaula with my Dad.

They had a tackle shop there and you could  buy jelly worms in bulk. They were all loose and you just grabbed a hand full. The smell in that place was incredible.

That was before Gena Larew came up with the salt process and that pretty much changed the game.

I have a couple bags of both 6 and 12 inch Mann's jelly worms. I didn't know Mann's had gone out of business. Maybe I'll just hold on to these few bags for old time sake. Used to be my go to's.

I’d kill to have the old Gene Larew stuff back as well - the OG Salt Craw (Yum version is not the same), the Bubble Lizard (Dominated in the 80’s), the Saw Tail worm……

The motel that he owned on Table Rock is right across the road from me.  When everybody copied the salt impregnation deal he came up with he sued a bunch of them.

Unfortunately he didn't live long enough to collect but his wife did. She passed a few years back.

The Salt Craw was the deal .

There used to be a guy in the LA area that poured bootleg salt craws in some wild colors. His stuff was in virtually every gas station/tackle shop worm bar. I’ve still got a few squirreled away just in case I ever run into someone that wants to make a mold.
