Manns 12" Jelly Worm

Featured Replies

I've never done too well on the jelly worm, but I'll be holding onto the ones I have left a bit harder now that I know they're gone for now. I have the pumpkin/chartreuse and raspberry 12" and the watermelon red 9". I was wondering why I couldn't find them at the box store the other day. That makes me sad

I have caught more bass on a jelly worm than all othe lures.  I still have several packs of 6 inch and 8 inch . The 12 inch I have never used but have that one pack.

I have fished them quite a bit and I just never get bit on them. Probably user error. I catch probably 90% of my fish on a hardbait. Red eye shad and a walking bait are the bread and butter

Daaaang this sucks. I have a few packs still of the 12". I don't fish them much but they do get the nod in the right conditions. I guess I will appreciate them a bit more now. What's everyone's favorite BIG straight tails? I usually go for 10 or 12" curly tails in the summer if I'm trying to cover and area but if I'm slowing down an soaking the worm a bit more on a piece of structure or deeper weedline I do like the straight tails. These and the Upton's Custom worms were my go-to's for that. I believe @WRB-2.0 was the one I saw mention Upton's when I first tried them.

Yep, it's a good bait for low light conditions and night fishing. I've caught 10 inchers on them so don't be afraid to fish them. 2 pounders have no problem eating them.

I’ve had a similar experience with the zoom ol monster. I’ve caught a few bass where the worm was longer than the fish! Bass can definitely be a bit over ambitious!

Western Plastics 12” in Hot Chocolate/Blue vein is the preferred straight tail now. I’ve got some 16” Delong snakes in the tackle room, but I haven’t thrown them yet.

There’s a bunch of guys that swear by them - I bought them a while back, and all they’ve done is sit in the tackle room. Someday I’ll give them a go!!

Ohh I’m excited to hear how this goes. Can you take a picture of how you rig it? What size hook do you even use with that?

I didn’t think to get any pics of it rigged up - wind was horrible tonight and ran us off by 10:00.

I did give them a shot, Texas rigged with a 5/0 hook (Ryugi Standard) and a 3/16 oz sinker. Got a bunch of hits taken at it, but only managed to hook up on one 2 lb fish.

I have some 12” jelly worm, get strikes but no hook ups. I think they are dinks hitting them.

I agree that Bass can be overly ambitious.  I once extracted a 13" Cottonmouth who's tail was sticking out of the mouth of a 12" Smallmouth;  fortunately for me the snake was already dead and digestion had begun.
