  1. My wife does the same thing! Except when she naps, I stop catching fish. When she wakes up she catches them... Makes me wonder why I don't just nap until she decides to fish again haha.
  2. Well I was planning on fishing the pits with our secondary get together this weekend but my wife had different plans. She said she wanted to go to Milford to catch some smallies and wipers. Long story short, we are camping at Milford Fri-Sun. Last time we were there we had a blast. Fuel line broke but we just used the trolling motor in the cove we camped and still caught a ton of whites and wipers.
  3. And you succeeded too... biggest bass caught
  4. A little late to this post but what I have found is if you try to mimic the person in the front of the boat, a lot of times it doesn't work. The fish have already seen that bait. Felix and J Francho are right in my opinion. I grew up fishing every weekend with my father. I used to try to mimic him in terms of lure and presentation but I was never as successful as him. I found my best tactic was to offer the fish something different (color, profile, lure type) and slow down the retreive. The front person will pick off the aggressive ones most of the time leaving you to catch the hesitant fish.
  5. Congrats Clayton! That picture of you kneeling holding that flathead looks like it should have been on the show River Monsters.
  6. It was a lot of fun getting out... I mean I would say Lone Star is a bust. I don't think anyone should go there...EVER What was crazy about that small fatty was when I squeezed its belly a bit to keep it from swallowing the craw while Brian was getting a picture, it was pooping. That means that the fish was either digesting the craw in its mouth really fast or it had eaten one before it...and tried to eat another one after. If it keeps that up, it will weigh 6 lbs when it is 16" haha.
  7. Yeah let me know. I wouldn't mind fishing out of a larger boat. Mine gets a little hairy if there's any wind at Melvern.
  8. I'm in for this. I have an empty backseat so anyone who doesn't mind fishing out of a 15' boat is welcome.
  9. I did manage to pull a 10" bass out of one of the schools of shad but this school was being pushed towards the bank (more like what I am used to bass doing to shad)
  10. It was just me last night. In fact, I had the whole lake to myself. Wednesdays I only work until noon. So now that cooler weather is here, I am going to try to get out as often as I can Wednesdays.
  11. I went to Lone Star last night from about 4-8. What a beautiful night. Not to mention fishing was pretty good. I started with my 3rd cast catching a 19.5" 3.47lb largemouth on a squarebill. Next cast was a 6" smallmouth. I probably caught 5 fish in the first 10 minutes. Then the little wind that was there died down and something started busting shad out in the middle of the cove. I spent probably over 30 minutes trying to catch whatever it was and was unsuccessful. I went back to fishing and catching bass. I found that the key was burning the small squarebill in about 3' of water so that it would crash against bottom continuously. If I wasn't hitting bottom, I wasn't catching fish. The two best baits for me were Havoc Craw Fatty pitched into cover and just deadsticking it or burning the KVD 1.0. Here is a picture of the first fish of the day. The fish had a deformed jaw and doesn't look as big as it was.
  12. My father used this tactic when he used to fish bass clubs. He told me stories of how he used to catch a bag of fish and be near the top almost every week and when people would ask what he was using he would just say "plastics" Just try using that next time and wait for the response. He even told me a couple times he had guys pull right up next to him while he was fishing to see what he was using and he would switch rods while they came in so they didn't see his secret "plastic"
  13. Nice fish guys! I went to Lone Star Friday afternoon and caught a few. Nothing big but it was a lot better than sitting at home. On the plus side the steering that Chris and I worked on worked very well! The real question is... did you get your baby brush hog back? I plan on going back out there Wednesday afternoon to see if I can catch something that would be worth taking a picture of.
  14. I am officially out for this, both days. d**n continuing education is scheduled the same weekend as this!
  15. Actually I just had someone snag the offer so the rod is sold.
  16. Call me stupid for not offering this before but I have a rod that I am selling. It is a G. Loomis GL2 spinning rod. Model GL2 802S JWR. Here is a link to the posted ad on the Flea Market Forum: http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/144584-thinning-rods-gloomis-garcia/ Since I wouldn't have to ship it if someone from KC bought it, I will let it go to one of you guys for $120!
  17. Don't forget about the "wrench" we had to rig up!
  18. Will do. PM me your phone number and I will let you know.
  19. Well Chris came over to help with the boat last night. It was the steering cable so thank you for pointing us in the right direction Ranger. Once we got the steering cable out, we cleaned the tube, installed a Cable Buddy and put the tube back in. Now the motor turns with ease. That sure sounds a lot easier than it really was... I think Chris can attest to that. Now I just have to get out and use it to make sure . I plan on heading out fishing Friday afternoon to fish. I was thinking about heading back to Leavenworth but Brian is being a good salesman for Lonestar. Thanks again for your help last night Chris!
  20. I was wondering I was wondering about that. I may try to disassemble it this week and clean/re-grease it and see if that helps. Thanks for your help and recommendations everyone
  21. Maybe I should have been more specific. I'm not sure if it's actually the motor but the steering is extremely difficult. The motor runs fine but steering not so much. Just need it to last me a few more years so I can get something nicer.
  22. Ondrejka, don't feel bad. I too had outboard troubles. Speaking of that, does anyone know there way around a 1988 Force 50 hp?
  23. Went back to Leavenworth with my wife on Sunday to enjoy the day and hopefully continue where Blue and I left off. The fishing wasn't nearly as good as Friday afternoon but the weather was much better...funny how that works isn't it? I did manage to catch a 19.5" 3.52lb largemouth on a jig but the rest of the fish were dinks.
  24. What hotel is that? I have a feeling if I am able to make it, my wife will want to stay in a hotel rather than camp.
  25. I'm okay what... if I can make it. Is there camping there?
