Jika Rig (Jig Rig)
The hooks are a stock Gammy with a welded steel ring I forgot the part number, but I am sure they arev still available. The weights I had poured for me with a crane swivel inthem and I just powder coated and baked them. Use a good splitring to join them and you are done. My advice is just buy the BPS version because the rest is just for looks anyway.:-)

Furthest Casting Low Profile Reel?
Good point, but it is not just a simple matter of total weight, it is actually how the weight is distribtuted. Weight on the outer edge of a rotational mass has greater moment of innertia than if is located near the center of the mass. This makes a spool that is weighted on outside edge slower to start but once it is moving it has the potential to store some energy and keep rotating better than a spool that has its weight closer to center mass. Better for casting heavier baits. Spools that are light and have the majority of their weight near center of mass are faster to start but do not store as much energy and stop sooner, better for light baits. The other factor is how the breaking is implemented, not all magforce z is the same. Spring stiffness and inducter design are two factors that determine how much and at what speed the inductor will engage the magnets and how much affect it will have. Spools like the RCS custom spools often found in Daiwa type R reels are tuned so that the inductor design and spool weight distribution work together to provide 6he best performance. Stock spools are not nearly as effective at this. Great discussion so far, hope it stays positive.

Furthest Casting Low Profile Reel?
I was wondering what is the furthest casting low profile baitcasting reel ever made (or used by you)?, The wording in your response made me think that your response was to the first part of the question. My mistake, so which version of the Zillion reels are you comparing your experience to. I would bet a Zillion with a PE long cast spool, a 100M spool or a Zillion HLC spool would have no problem keeping up.

Furthest Casting Low Profile Reel?
With a spool that weights close to 16 grams, the Tatula is not going to even be in the same league as some of the upper end Daiwa reels. While it will cast great for a reel in it's price range you have missed the mark with declaring it the casting champ.

Furthest Casting Low Profile Reel?
KVD is often regarded among his peers on the elite circuit as one of the longest casters. When he was interviewed he said that he could reach a distance of 60 yards under ideal conditions. Take it for what it's worth.

Furthest Casting Low Profile Reel?
Joe, next time someone has a 100M spool up for grabs cheap, snap it up, I think you will be impressed with the difference in will make in either the Fuego or the Zillion.

Furthest Casting Low Profile Reel?
Typically reels that excel at casting baits on the lower end of that scale do not perform as well when casting baits on the upper end and visa versa. Most stock reels without the benefit of bearing and or spool upgrades are going to cast in the range of 30 to 40 yards in the hands of the average user.

Rare Catches.....
I guess I will go with spoonbill, while they are not that rare in our part of the country I hear that they are endangered in other parts.

Daiwa Tatula Casting Rods
I was at Bass Pro last Friday night and checked these rods out. I was very impressed, good build quality, nice components, and very light. I would have to think that these will be a serious contender in this price range.

You can get JDM reels in several ways, there are forums that have a lot of members that are really in to the JDM and custom reel stuff, PM me and I will get you a website. You can do the ebay route if you know exactly what you are looking for and it is safe as long as you follow the rules. The other way is to order direct from Japan, there are several companies there that have a very good reputation and accept paypal also. Let me know what your interested in and I will see if I can be more specific. Check these sites out: ZPI .com Avail.com Japan tackle. com Hedgehog Studio.com Semper Fi. com these may not be the exact url's but you should be able to do a little searching and find what you need. there are many others but these will get you started.

I have picked a few reels up recently and have been doing minor upgrades to them, helps combat the cabin fever. The first is a Daiwa Fuego, it has a lot done to it, carbontex drag, abec 7's, added bearing to the levelwind, supertuned internals, Semper Fi CF handle with 4 bearing Megabass Hypercorks, Steeze swept dragstar, Hedgehog studio dress up parts. This is a Dawia Zillion that I picked up from a friend recently who preferred Lews reels, most of the work on this has been cosmetic to this point, I have a lot more planned for this one. The last is a JDM Gen 1 REVO IB, it is very similar to a Gen 2 Revo Premier, I have a few cosmetic changes to make to this reel, but really like the way it looks now.

Carbontex Vs. Dartainium In Shimano Reels
I don't know what they are made of, but I can tell you that the dartanium drag washers look and feel nothing like a carbontex washer. The dartanium tend to smash down and come apart/ You will get a small drag pressure increase with the carbontex replacements if for no other reason than they provide a little more material contact. I also believe they are smoother and stay cleaner longer than the stock washers.

Rod Or Reel
For myself it is either or. I would upgrade the reels first if it were a combo that fish primarily moving baits with. I would upgrade rod first for contact bait fishing. I Dont think it is fair to say that one is always more important than the other. JMO

Rod Confusion Help!
I have the 703C it is a nice rod, but will be severely under powered for anything above 3/8 oz total weight. It fishes like a med power rod in my experience.

Rod Confusion Help!
In the Champion line the 704C is good to about 3/8 of oz + trailer. If you want to fish jigs with a champion rod in the 4 power I would recommend the 734C, but based on what you have said I believe the new 735C may be the correct choice for baits heavier than 3/8oz. Also keep in mind that comparing Abu rods to others is not going to be apples to apples, the Abu rods fish heavier in action and power than they are rated (IMHO)
