  1. Thank you all so much! This is some of the education I need lol. Sooooooooooo...next question is...if I DID want to have a frog set up, what would you recommend? I'd like to keep it simple since I am not sold on frogs yet anyway lol.
  2. Well I only have two rods...a pfleuger lady trion (which is what I was using) and my "lucky" walmart special lol. I believe I have 10 lb braid on the pfleuger although I'm not 100% on that.
  3. Are you just reeling slowly at the edge? Usually I don't have the patience but yesterday I didn't really have a choice lol.
  4. This has always been a challenge for me although yesterday on the one fish I was so good. He hit it...I basically froze lol...I kept my left hand totally of the pole just to convince myself to wait. I still ended up yanking it out of his mouth in the end but at least I got to see it this time unlike many others hahaha. Thanks for the advice!
  5. As I read through all of these threads and topics I see a lot of people like using frogs. I have yet to do so successfully so I am wondering what I am doing wrong. I have the generic green guy, a sexy frog that is blue white and yellow and some other crazy contraption like frog that we bought for fun. Yesterday I used the KVD sf because the area was really weedy and had lilly pads. I didn't get much action from one area and then in another I got some hits but only one small guy really took it. I tried to wait for him but when I finally did pull on my rod he came out of the water and spit the frog. I guess I am just not sure how to fish a frog in general. My bf thinks I need to be more consistent in how I manuver it...idk...can someone help me with the basics here?
  6. Wow I wish I had shown up just to see what everyone brought in!
  7. Great thank you! We were checking out a few places in Hayward! Hoping to make a decision tonight. We go to the dells but more for out of the way stuff rather than the drag. My bf took me there a few years ago and I was like um...I grew up in Florida remember? No tourist traps please lol. We actually found a great campground outside the dells...I think it was in Lindon Station or something like that. Good times...
  8. Mods please delete I posted in the wrong section! Thank you!
  9. I am trying to plan a trip to Wisconsin in July. The ultimate goal being relaxation lol. We are hoping to make it a fishing/tubing/outdoor kind of vacation. We will be bringing our dogs as well. Originally we were looking in the Hayward area and Wisconsin Dells. Keeping our goals in mind any and all suggestions as to where you love to go in Wisconsin would be appreciated. We will be staying 5-7 days. Also if you know of anyone who rents and is pet friendly let me know. We are using vrbo right now. We do have three performance dogs and have used vrbo in the past so we do have references

  11. This is a great thread lol. I am sure I do something super amusing but at this point I think I might black out because I can't think if I do haha. I am bad about always wanting a pic...even if it's a dink... .
  12. We fished lox on the north side this morning with no luck. It got really windy and we came in. This evening we tried a new place thanks to Trickerie and I also used the Gambler Big EZ in Florida 5-0 as he suggested and using some of the things I learned here, I caught this guy... I know he still isn't huge, but this is the biggest one I've caught to date and this newb is thrilled lol.
  13. The beginning of the month we did ok at Lox. You saw my thread an pics I think. We went out today and not a bite from our canoe or land. Keep in mind we are newbs so it doesn't take much to impress us yet and don't have a boat lol.
  14. I know him through work so not personally but over the years. I saw a pic of it on CL and was impressed but that is a picture. I was thinking the same thing about your last statement lol. I am a sucker for throwbacks though. I'm a Chevy kind of girl but I will take a mint 1960s/1970s Ford truck anyday lol.
  15. Interesting thank you. I saw a pic of it and didn't consider it a big boat. Currently I can't really compare how I fish now to how I would fish with a boat. My bf has a cummins diesel right now so I assume that would tow it however this would be my boat and I drive a lifted Tahoe so another thing I would have to look into!
  16. I'm just throwing this out there for conversation as I am just a newcomer to bass fishing and this is probably getting in way over my head... My short bass fishing experience has been mostly from land and occasionally from canoe. Of course I always "wish I had a boat" to fish from. Ironically, today someone I know happened to mention he is selling his boat. He's an older gentleman who is hanging up his fishing pole. He has an '83 Ranger Commanchee 90 hp Johnson on trailer with a 54lb thrust GW trolling motor. He's bought it new/top of the line and it's been garaged since day one and it is immaculate. He is asking $3900. So my questions are...assuming excellent condition, would you consider a boat this old? What would be your concerns or questions? Thanks!
  17. I think so! I uploaded them to an album and then added them to my post. I'm guessing it was right cause I think the showed up. I can see them at least... Idk it doesn't look right but they are there lol.
  18. TY! Looks like we are headed to Bass Pro today lol.
  19. Thanks Glades! You guys are awesome! We tried a frog today but I think the problem was color. I think we needed something brighter. The one we have is just green. We did take PFD's we also rigged up a very "custom" pvc and stuck a Florida Gator (orange) flag on it hoping that we would be seen rather than run over lol.
  20. OH and on another cool note...we got to see a little gator flirting. There were two gators just down the way from us and one of them was bellowing. He carried on for a little while. As much as I have been around gators they are usually sleeping so that was fun.
  21. Cool thanks! All I know is it was rather large and put up quite a fight. There was another one with it that was a little bigger. We weren't really sure how we were going to get him unhooked and then he took care of that for us lol. Lox is down the road from us but we fished it from land once or twice before and only got a few little guys so we didn't want to fish from land again. We borrowed a canoe, lugged it down there, fought the wind and the best catch of the day was from land...go figure!
  22. Thank you Shane! Here are pics from today. Sorry for the quality they are from my POS droid.
  23. Thank you all! @Darren we tried today! I posted a thread in the southeast forum and as soon as I figure it out I will post pics lol.
  24. As I mentioned in my intro, I am pretty new to freshwater fishing. I have fished saltwater since a teenager. I've had a hard time finding good local non-urban fishing from land in South Florida although it might have to do with my skill too at this point lol. Anyway my bf and I decided to go to Loxahatchee with a canoe and brave the gators to try and improve our catch. We launched from the airboat side at dawn and fished around with topwater lures. We were doing ok until the wind picked up and we headed back. I only caught two bass and he didn't catch any. Interestingly enough we only saw one gator. Now I have always said gators = fish as that has been true for us at Corbett. So...we packed up and on our way out stopped by the spillway where we usually fish from land. There were a few gators hanging out. As soon as he threw his lure out he landed a nice bass. Apparently my job is to get the hook out *rolling my eyes* and so after getting it out and snapping a pic he throws the lure again and gets another just a bit smaller. Again...hook duty and I still haven't had a chance to cast! Third throw...he snagged either a mudfish or snakehead. I hoped to get a pic to ask you all but it broke the line. I have a fish id card but this guy didn't have a single spot on him and on the fish id the mudfish has a tail spot and the snakehead had several spots so idk. Dorsal fin looked more like a snakehead to me. Super long story short...the bite stopped and I missed out! Anyway, I was happy with the morning as I feel like we are slowly but surely improving. Ironically this is the first time we used a canoe and we did better by land lol.
