  1. I heard good things about the powells but i currently own two savvys 734 and 735 and wouldnt trade them for anything. great rods.
  2. After the great responses these two rods seem what people were reccommending. Now unfortunately no place around me carries either of them and i will be purchasing blind. Has anyone used both of these rods and if so how do they compare to one another.
  3. i have pretty much narrowed it down to the powell max jerkbait rod or the denali micahel murphy jerkbait. The only problem is no plae around me carries either of them and i would be buying them blind. has anyone used both of these rods and compared them.
  4. Walking baits :river2sea rover Pop'R: Damiki 70 and excaliber popr
  5. Looking for recommedations for a jerkbait/pop'r rod. im thinking something in the 6'10ft range
  6. Just seeing if anyone has had eny experiences with powell's composite lineup, the ones that are techinque specific.
  7. Hey guys just seeing your opinions on what colors and baits best you would use on these types of waters. First all 3 of the reservoirs are watershed and electric only. And how would you game plan them. Reservoir 1. Clear water, has both deep grass and shallow grass and i mean loaded with grass from 2 ft down to 25ft.. Good amount of points and offshore humps/foundations. Does also have some riprap, bluff walls and laydown trees in the upper end. Large shad popuation. Mostly Largemouth with some smallies. also holds perch, crawfish Reservoir 2. Very Clear water. Has alot of rock both shallow and deep. Has an okay amount of grass both shallow and deep. with a good amount of shoreline wood. One side of the reservoir does have some stained water with williows and brush, but the majority of the reservoir is extremely clear and deep. Large Population of Smaillies and Largies that both can produce close to 20lb bags. baitfish are crawfish, shad, yellow perch, minnows, bluegills, sunfish Reservoir 3. The clearest of them all, mostly rock and wood with some grass. Simliar to reseervoir 2 with having alot of points and deep water. Good population of SMallies and largemouth. Tends to produce smaller fish than the others and has a good population of smaller smallouth in the 12-14inch range. Has a good amount of offshore structure. Bait fish seem to be minnows, bluegills, sunfish, perch, crawfish, rockbass
  8. Just seeing if anyone has compared these to series. Mainly the max vs savvy. i have the 734 and 735 and do like the rods but was just curious how the powell max held up against them considering they are 30-40 bucks cheaper. Thanks
  9. no it was never dropped in dirt, actually it has never been placed on a ground at all. on another forum i was told by a reel service guy that it is the pawl spring on it that is not engaging. im sure either *** or lews will take care of it.
  10. i hope this reads somewhat clear for you. thanks So here it is i purchased a Lews tournament Pro speed spool and really do like the reel. Now i have fished with it on several times with no problem but on my last outing i experience the following, and please hope this makes sense it is very hard to explain: . i'll make the cast and engage the spool and during the retrieve i will hear and feel 2 distinct clicking noises on every turn of the reel. it feels/hears like its coming for near the handle and underneath the reel. Now here is the kicker, ill stop reeling and i would either give it a little shake or just shake the handle and switch whihc knob i was holding(i first thought it was the knob thats y i did that) and it would stop for the rest of the retrieve. then i would make a few casts with no issue, then all of a sudden it will do it again. Now the performance of the reel was not effected. it casted well and had no issue reeling in several fish. But for $200 and it being a new reel(only fished 2 other times with no incident) the "clicking noise" really did bother me.
  11. has anyone tried those twin trollers from freedom electric?? Was curious how were they and what size lakes/resersoirs do you guys fish with them.
  12. i tried them all and keep going back to the supreme xt
  13. I have also used them both and really like the way the paca craws standup better, but quite frankly i have caught more fish using the chuigger craws. i have done really well with a biffle head and 4''in chigger craws.
  14. Thats what i meant sorry, i didnt realize i missed the pro in there. I have the Lew torunament Pro ($200) and its a solid reel, just better reels in the price range.
  15. i have the lew tournament speed spool and recently compared it casting wise to my new curado g200 and stx. The lew's casted great controll wise however was shorter distance wise. Maybe 10-15ft at most and this was after i was playing with the adjustments. however the lews is very light and feels super solid, absoultely no play in the handle which is great. But for $200 bucks there are better reels out there for that price and i would get a curado for $160 over it
  16. i been fishing as a coangler for the past 4 seasons and bring 5-6rods and 1 large tackle bag. if you keep your rods neat, with sleeves and the ties you can easily bring 6-7 at most and have them never get in the boaters way or yours. i keep my tacklebag under my legs when i sit, sometimes ill even have my legs partially up on my bag. the key is orgaanzing the right way. get the sleeves and ties, yes it may take you an xtra 2 mins to undo one rod and put one away, but its more efficent and is actually quicker cause your not dealing with tangle rods and line. You will get some people who are going to say 5-7 rods are way to much, it is if done poorly, but i been doing it for awhile now on both full size bass boats and my other club which are only reservoir rigs (15-18ft aluminum boats). just organizeand keep things somewhat neat and you will be fine. good luck
  17. I am in the market for a new spinning reel. It is going to be used with 8-10lb fluro, mainly used for shakyhead fishing and drop shotting, with the occassional small finesse jerkbait thrown. I am looking at the saros f, ci4 and the new stradic fj all int he 2500 sizes. anyone have any experience with these reels???
  18. Thank you smalljaw, i see you are local to the susy, im on the MD side, how bout yourself??
  19. Hey guys i have never used the new bottom hopper and i recently got a bunch of the jr. and full size and was seeing which shaky head fits them the best. I was looking at the following, giggy head, gamakatsu skip gap and the picasso. Any opinions for those who have used these baits would be great. thanks
  20. Thank you for the feedback, just one more question about a brand. the spro mcrips and mcsticks, i heard mixed reviews on them.
  21. I am looking to get some jerkbaits for some largemouth but mostly smallmouth waters(gin clear reservoirs both rocky and weeds) and heard good reviews about the rapala xrap and deep xrap. Which size and colors for those type of reservoirs will work best.
  22. Everyone knows the effectiveness of the roboworms as a finesse bait. now between the straight tail vs the fat straight tail is there any difference in action or usage, or is it simply just a slightly bigger profile?
  23. thank you for the responses. i am most likely going to go with both worms mainly cause the club im in fishing 5 different reservoirs, with 3 of them being very clear and the other 2 just slightly dingy, so i should be able to benefit from both. thank you again for your responses. Also forgot to add i will be rigging them on both the gamakatsu skip gap shaky head and the picasso
  24. I was thinking the same question. I fish alot of clear rocky reservoirs and also have been looking into jerkbaits. I was going to try the Spro's mcstick and mcrip but with all the praises the LC pointer and staysee get i may have to spend the xtra bucks and try them. I looked into the xrap but hated that the smaller size one 3'25 is only 1/4oz, where the spros and LC's are 3/8oz.
  25. For finesse applications, especially shakyhead wise which worm is better for that. i know the roboworms have a lot of salt and they do not float until the salt content dissolves abit. anyone compare these two worms????
