  1. Go 200, all around better. I use my 50 for my around town fishing with 12# YoZuri.
  2. $240 for an Curado E? You can find them all day for about $120. Heck, the Chronarch is $200.
  3. The answer is obvious, its a Curado E series.
  4. I usually just check the line for condition and capacity. Drop of oil for spool bearings. KVD L&L on the guides, line, and reel. I always clean my rods and reels after every use to make my prep easier. I only have 1 combo I use all the time, the others are specific setups that usually only get used in tournament fishing. Be careful with the warm water thing, L&L the ***ht before, and before fishing in the morning is safer and better. Good luck!
  5. Shimano E series, cant go wrong with any of them.
  6. Hi Seas products in my opinion are garbage. Never had a good experience. I wonder if Bill really uses it?
  7. Great price. Great reel. Go for it. It should be ok, it takes alot to destroy that reel. The outside can tell alot about how well the reel has been taken care of. There are no scratches on mine, but I baby my reels. Light scuffs may be normal boat rash. You get the idea. Good luck!
  8. Its all about personal preference. I am more comfortable with a 6'6/6'8 rod. I dont need to cast more than say 30 yds, so for me the accuracy is more important. Its funny that the 2-4 inches makes soo much difference in my accuracy.
  9. Heres the story: I had bought a new Clarus rod about 2 months ago. The way the reel hold down works by tightening the handle grip was a pain in the butt. It seemed like after a while of fishing, the hold was losening, and I had to keep tightening it back down. So finally the front part came unglued, and it broke. I decided to just crank it down, and it held decent, but still had a bit of movement. On Facebook, Shimano had a post about "who has tried our new Clarus rods yet?". I responded that I had one, it gave me some problems, and it broke. They responded that they want to replace it for me. I told them I was not paying anything for shipping if they wanted to help, as they want my defect. I recieved a certified envelope with paperwork to ship my rod. Since I sent them a picture of the problem on the rod, they told me to break the rod in as many pieces as I can to fit it as small of a box as I can. My rod that they are replacing mine with is apparently a new one they are coming out with, and it wont be made until mid July. They were soo helpful, and this is why Im a avid Shimano fisher. Its amazing how our "social networks" can play a big role in how big corporations can get personal with their customers.
  10. So much for "obey your thirst", lol.
  11. I dont see any advantage. If anything, because the guides are smaller, the line has more of a chance of riding them while casting, thus shortening the distance. Thats what I would think would happen anyway.
  12. Braid is easier to manage. If you get a backlash, you dont have to worry about the line snapping. If you get a really bad backlash, well...., then you are respooling. Braid is different DIA for different companies. 65# Spiderwire is 12# DIA, while 65# Power Pro is 14# or 17# DIA. All good either way. Anything around a 12# DIA will be great for you.
  13. Its part of the deal. Ever watch Bass fishing events on TV when they are jigging in heavy cover? Once the hook is set and they start reeling in, thats all you hear is the braid.
  14. Just got me a few new spinner baits the other day to help cover all ends. Got plenty of jigs and 2 rigs set up to fish them, braid and hybrid. No live bait allowed.
  15. I am very precise about how the trailer is on the hook. I follow the curve of the hook while in the center of the trailer, and make sure to come back out the the trailer at the right spot so the trailer is all the way along the straight part of the hook until the hook curves and comes out of the trailer. It takes time to learn each trailer and how to hook them. I use specific trailers, but you can judge by eyeballing it and being very carefull while running the hook through.
  16. They should be E's then. Jump on those!
  17. Too far of a drive from S Fl,
  18. Well, if you want strength and manageability, go with YoZuri. Its not a true fluoro, but its unbelievably strong. The 12# is a break strength of 20#, its basically twice as strong as it is rated for. Maybe that will help. I use it in 12# and 20#, and never trusted a nylon type line, until I tried this stuff.
  19. Buzzbaits, frogs, spooks, anything on the top works great. I love fishing in S FL when its just drizzling after a good downpour.
  20. I hope they are the E's, the new G series is not that good. Unfortunatly, Shimano has done a "downgrade" to their lineup.
  21. That reel will do anything. Just be careful, for saltwater it doesnt hold too much line to go for big fish.
