  1. when i watch buddies struggle in these conditions it's usually b/c one or more of these: 1 they are fishing too fast 2 they aren't casting far enough ie if you can see the bass, they can see you. 3 they are standing in the same place for 2+hrs ie don't fish, hunt fish. i can virtually always get the skunk off shore fishing by relocating often while slow dragging plastics.
  2. x2 on working open water. I always fan cast an area and save the deep water/perpendicular to shore cast for last. wait for a spinnerbait/chatterbait/swimjig etc to hit bottom. Keep ur rod tip low on the first half of cast... but slow raising it as you get closer to shore will prevent snagging. One time I was literally finished cranking my reel from a 100+ft cast and using my rod to lift my lure out of the water for a re-cast when a 3lb blew up on it and hook himself. not a monster but I will never forget the amazing experience. he was stalking it the whole way. follow every cast thru till the end b/c sometimes that's when their 'baitfish fleeing' instinct kicks in
  3. TW has a Shimano Clarus 6'8" 1/4-3/8 oz on sale for $50. And they have Diawa's for $47.
  4. I wouldn't want to battle that smallie in ur pix on a Light rod I'd go with the ML if not a Medium. why are you leaning so light? i have two ML rods that easily throw a 1/16oz drop shot
  5. bass don't care if they are painted or not.
  6. don't be afraid to throw ur topwater! coves and skinny water warm up quick and this is the time of year when you never know what is going to slam ur lure. have fun and be creative, top to bottom, fast and slow. someone will be alone to say hello
  7. I fish almonesson, blackwood, grenloch, mullica hill and a few secret holes. there are so many great places to fish and explore over there. a lot of the time it's faster for me to head east to ur area than try to battle traffic north or west in pa. i'll bring my kayak and fish anytime.
  8. I thought you retired ur rods for the married life! prepare for swollen water. it was 2 feet above normal on monday and that was before this last snow storm
  9. i've always wanted to fish penn warner but i'm 'afraid'. my uncle got a taste of a private club near his house and it 'retired' him from public lakes:) maybe i'll get up the courage this summer. maybe i can bribe you with lunch and a case of beer i'm not looking forward to the snakehead eating my smallmouth/largemouth but i am looking forward to eating them. i hear their flaky white meat is amazing
  10. perkiomen creek in montgomery county and a pond in Royersford. I fish montoco, delco, chester and some of bucks. and i take my kayak to a lot of ponds in south jersey: almonesson, blackwood, grenloch, mullica hill. what part of the city do you live/fish?
  11. Good for: small hands, warm water, 6-10lb line, treble hook applications, crankbait type rods. Bad for: big hands, cold water, 12lb+, stout hooks, MH+ rods Catch a fish, check ur line. Fish around rock/cover, check ur line. Fish for an hour, check ur line. Use any type of speed clip/duo snap, check ur line.
  12. I hit the water on Monday. No takers but honestly I could care less b/c it felt soooo good being on the water. Both my main reservoir and smaller lake were frozen solid. I worked a small creek and pond from shore (I learned jerkbaits are a pia from the bank when there are lots of bushes/trees around). I couldn't bring myself to break out a senko b/c i was too excited power fishing for a hungry girl
  13. this year i'm going to start using a toad in ponds and a white swimbait in lakes
  14. what ever is on sale or any hunk of plastic I have laying around with the tail cut in half (senko w/ split tail. ribbontail, grub, fluke, craw, brushhog, finesse worm etc work also). i have so much success with chatterbaits the trailer is insignificant to me. the blade is what calls them so i see no need for expensive/delicate trailers
  15. looks good to me. free shipping and 100% returns. you have nothing to lose but return shipping. maybe you can even call costa and verify they are a vendor or the USP. pay with a credit card and ur fine I'd order a pair right now if I knew what style fit me
  16. I think the speed clips are garbage. I still have some i'm using but i won't buy more. they are very small and are such fine wire that they flex while trying to open making for a double difficult time. i'm burning them off on my light and ultra light rods, 4-6lb test line, and jerkbaits on a glass rod. i would not trust them on 10lb+ fluoro or on a MH+ casting rod. also it's one thing to try and use them in 80 deg water but trying to open them with numb fingers in 40 deg water is pretty much the definition of hell. #2 Mustad KVD Duo Snaps have treated me well
  17. need more info on where line is going
  18. same rod motion as walking the dog with a spook except underwater. snap on a slack line
  19. peg a glass bead on ur line. it will slide thru those pads like butter and still be weightless. and don't load/use ur rod. point ur rod tip directly at the lure and use ur reel only
  20. unfortunately a baitcaster won't help you catch more fish. studying structure will
  21. I only use baitcaster. just kidding, i wanted to beat someone to it. skipping docks with a spinning rod is one of the easiest and most fun techniques out there. i taught a buddy last season and he is completely addicted. i only skip a baitcaster when I have to. i can tell you this: skipping a baitcaster is all about the thumb brake. don't remove ur thumb from the spool for even a second. keep steady gentle pressure on ur spool the whole cast and you'll have lots of success and few if any backlashes. for some reason i rarely see this tip mentioned. maybe b/c veterans don't realize they are doing it?
  22. gotta love the trash talking. can't wait to see Floyds shirt
  23. welcome!
  24. i've had bad luck with the rubber bands rotting. I use old braid or sewing thread. never had one come loose
