  1. you definitely get hung up way less with lighter weight. and no dragging. use gentle high lifts when you want to move it. i use 1/16 oz in chunk and tend to keep it in one place more vs using it as a search bait. in chunk i'd also try weightless senko or fat ika and a 1/16 oz tube b/c they don't get hung as easily.
  2. if you have a renta'car Paul is 2.5hr away in Danbury CT. he's a smallie slaying wizzard. check out his youtube also. http://www.paulmuellerfishing.com/
  3. don't forget to wacky them on a 1/16 to 1/8oz drop shot. you will slay them if you toss it onto a smallie bed during spawn
  4. lotta good info (search night fishing). let us know how ya make out http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/118475-best-night-fishing-lure/ http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/117597-night-fishing-question/
  5. nice report. what was the water clarity?
  6. decent rod.. on par with Powell's. but i'd much rather have a Dobyns for the money. fathers day is coming up and i believe TW has a 20% off sale. whats ur upper price limit and purpose for the rod?
  7. the link won't work so just type "drop shot rod" into the forum search at the top of page. 17 pages of heaven. i often fish gin clear water so went with a 7'6" for distance. plus i like to put as much distance between me and bubba as possible. have both a ML and M to switch between depending on what else i'm tossing
  8. block it and maybe supplement with these. i work in landscaping so customers ask me how to keep their cats from eating their indoor and/or outdoor plants. best thing indoors is to fill a spray bottle with water and add a bunch of drops of Tobasco sauce and hose down the plants. if you spray down ur carpet, they should groom and make the connection. outdoors=sprinkle black pepper all over the flower bed. cats groom constantly and they don't like licking hot black pepper flakes off their paws. let alone inhaling it with their acute sense of smell. black pepper in ur boat carpet? those giant 32oz bottles are $3 at my discount store. either and/or both... just don't have a boat honeymoon moment under the stars with the wife.
  9. it sounds like ur having a hard time consistently catching bass so i'll put in another vote for shaky head and/or drop shot. either one should produce in tuff times. when the bite is good, try keeping RW same method but taking one of his other great suggestions and upgrading to a 6" senko. it separates the dinks from hawgs. its literally taken my senko fishing to a whole new level of 'dating big girls'. slow dragging a big worm and/or jig is hard to beat. if i'm looking for any bite my go to=drop shot. if i'm looking for a big bite my go to=slow dragging big worms/jigs
  10. x2. more likely the jig bite just wasn't 'on' that day and ur associating lack of success with lack of rattles.
  11. yea its nice not loosing treble hook fish on a crank rod. i only use my crank rod in open water and/or rocks. don't sleep on a regular MH fast tip rod when in grass. its much easier to rip the lipless off tips of grass and it generates vicious strikes (the crank rod loads too much so i don't get near the grass bites)
  12. great story jeff. looking forward to chapter 2. i don't mean to get all wishy washy sentimental but.. Better to have swung and lost than never to swung at all.
  13. why not just buy 50 blades/50 swivels for $4 and dress ur current jigs? (oh and surgical or aquarium tube) its just like adding a trailer hook to a spinnerbait/chatterbait/buzz etc
  14. i'm gonna try to catch a bunch for bait using the sabiki rig. no need to buy---just tie a bunch of small jigs together using light line and put a 1/4 or 3/8oz weight on bottom depending on how deep. http://youtu.be/gAswsM2g5Zo?t=3m10s
  15. nice fish. a guy in the poconos told me how to cook them up last year but i haven't tried it yet. let me know if anyone has.. gut and cut into cross section fillets. he said the bones are very fine so don't bother trying to remove. soak fillets in a jar of milk over night. this will break down the bones. dump everything (fillets and milk) in blender. liquify. add bread crumbs. paddy up like a crab cake. cook in pan of butter. eggs and snot cakes for breakfast!
  16. holy smokes batman, alot of sites have the exact typo. now i can order with peace . thanks
  17. The rating on 2 rods has been eating away at me for a few months. Now I'm ready to order during the Memorial day sale and would like to get it right. How does a medium heavy have a 3/4 oz minimum when the heavy has a 1/4 oz minimum? Specifically: 763C: 7'6" 1pc. 8-17lb, 3/4-1oz, Med/Hvy Fast Action 764C: 7'6" 1pc. 12-25lb, 1/4-1 1/2oz, Hvy Fast Action I want the long rod for distance casting 6" senkos which probably weigh 1/2 oz with hook. Instincts tell me the 763 has a stiffer tip b/c it's minimum is 3/4oz. My brain goes haywire when I try to process the 764 having a tip capable of casting light 1/4oz lure but simultaneously is stiff tip enough to cast 1.5oz w/o snapping. How is it possible? Side note: This is not the case when stepping from 733 to 734. Both minimum's stay at 1/4oz. Paging Dr Dobyns..
  18. x2. forget about electronics and structure for now. first learn how to duplicate ur bank success from the boat. if you both are successful slow dragging senkos from shore, do it in the boat. if you're masters of drop shotting banks, do it from the boat. etc after you achieve 'bank success' from the boat, then start to analyze deeper spots with ur electronics. there are plenty of awesome threads on structure fishing. just do a forum search. good luck and give us an update
  19. seriously who could forget that pix?! welcome back
  20. yea man I hope a big curvy bass jumps out of a cake for ya
  21. whatever you do just DON'T solder AND crimp. defeats the purpose and will give you a weak connection. bottom line these are very light wires under very little pressure/weight and you have easy access to them. the wire will break before a solder connection will. if you have a solder gun just use it and use shrink wrap. no need to spend a penny. i would def recommend butt connectors for heavier gauge wires that may be under constant vibration and are deep inside ur hull (no easy access w/o a major project)
  22. I just rigged my canoe and it came out great (thanks A-Jay!). i too bought the endura max but went with 55lb. some think its alot for a 14ft canoe but 1-i was buying new so why not toss an extra $70. 2-i may switch the whole system to a jon boat in a year or two and it won't skip a beat. make sure you keep ur battery on a charger all the time. it will greatly extend the life. as of now i do NOT like the side mount. (build it using 2x4'. lots of good info and youtube vids). i used to LOVE sitting and STANDING in my canoe while fishing. now its really uncomfortable (think about standing on one foot in ur kitchen for 5 hrs). the rig is just too unbalanced. next week i am going to mount 40lbs of gym weighs on the opposite side to balance it. everything should be fine then. a square stern canoe would have been ideal to start but i'm sure i will be happy after the mod. we're probably close so let me know if ya need any help or want to hit the water sometime
  23. if you don't have a solder gun you can use butt splice only. don't double wires over. get one size larger butt connector than your largest wire. ie you want to join 18g and 14g wires together: buy a 12g butt connector. strip both wires 1" and run them parallel (touching side by side) thru the connector. both wires combined will provide the girth to get a perfect crimp. slide shrink on wire before crimping
