  1. Welcome aboard Jacob, I think you'll enjoy it here Cheers, Eric
  2. Do these cars have room for a trailer hitch??
  3. I still have soft plastic (worms, creatures, etc.) in storage that I made over ten years ago, do these thing ever go bad. The only problem I find is the oil and scent have dried, but the worms feel as good as the day I made them. It appears all I need do is add some oil and scent and go fishin' Anyone else run across this before? How can I justify purchasing new materials and molds when the stuff I have is still good Are fish still biting on Motor Oil???? Tell me what you would do. Cheers, Eric
  4. Get well soon, and back to fishin' Cheers, Eric
  5. I think I'll go with the professional repair. Does anyone know of any place in the Washington D.C. Metro, Maryland, or Northern Va area that does Motor Guide repair?? Say Richmond, Va up to Baltimore, Md; I'd drive an hour for a good repair. Cheers, Eric
  6. Megastrike, This may help you track DC weather. Good fishing http://www.weather.com/weather/monthly/USDC0001 Cheers, Eric
  7. Figured out the frame size and style. Now I need to decide on lens color. I think all I've used to date is smoke grey. Any suggestions on best color for fishing? Cheers, Eric
  8. Thanks Dwight, I'm hot on their trail, I just Bing'd "Johnathan Paul fitovers" and found www.fitovers.com Haven't found the chart as yet, but I will..... Cheers, Eric
  9. Is "Fit-Overs" the brand name and where can I find them. I've tried Cocoons at BPS and didn't care for the feel; but I'm not sure the few they had on display really fit my glasses. I've been fighting my trifocals for years.
  10. This is the first I've seen of chatterbaits with reflective foil, is it on both sides? Nice baits
  11. Sorry, Don't know why the link changed Try this: http://www.penrodsguides.com/LOUmagazineMARCH.html Cheers, Eric
  12. Megastrike, Found this for you: Ken Penrod’s 10 Seasons For Tidal Potomac Largemouth Bass By Ken Penrod; http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/97717-pre-spawn-potomac-river/page__fromsearch__1 Print it out and keep it with you. Cheers, Eric
  13. Basically the fish face into the oncoming tide while behind a good ambush point (wood of any type, weeds, bar's, etc.), they let the tide bring the food to them without wasting too much energy. Yes, they may have moved up by mid April (I've been told to look for the Dogwood trees to blossom), depending on water temp and weather trends, but some will be close to the drop-off's as well. They'll go deep if they don't like conditions; and I believe the females return deep to recover after nesting. I'm not sure how much visible weeds you'll see, maybe someone else can advise also. Tip: A longtime Potomac guide by the name of Ken Penrod has written two books on fishing the Middle Potomac; "Fishing The Tidal Potomac River, and Ken Penrod's Tidal Potomac River Fishing Bible". They basically cover the "Middle" creek by creek. Both are good reading for anyone new to the river; he also has other books you may find interesting. He's working on a new book for the Middle, and I wish he'd get off his butt and get it published. Try Penrod's web page at http://www.penrodsguides.com/, or try ebay, or Amazon. Ken is a great guy and has worked hard to protect our fishery. IMHO Again, hope this helps. Cheers, Eric
  14. Megastrike, Give me a clue as to your boat and where you would like to concentrate your fishing. If you're going to stay in the Mattawoman both sides of the mouth at the Navy Base, look for submerged grass on flats near a drop-off to deep water; markers 3 & 5; the point on the right just before Thoroughfare Island; Marsh Island area; the outside of bends starting at the 6 mph zone; up from Slavins, again look for deep holes on the bends and work the area; work the area shown in the attached photo. The water temp last Monday was 43.5 at the south side of the mouth, fish were holding on top of the drops that still have submerged grass. I was working small jigs slowly. Everything depends on the tide, the weather and sunlight, and the water turbidity conditions. Hope this helps Cheers, Eric
  15. Jamie, CAUTION ! Know the tide level and be VERY careful at Fox Ferry, I have personally seen boats misjudge the distance off the shore and one lost his lower units on the rocks trying to run the track at high speed. IMHO, You can't read the electronics and drive high speed at the same time; you know the route or you don't. You didn't say where you were headed; your map shows going south of the WW; if that is correct, why go this route? This is the route into Penrod's Cove from Gravely Point. Cheers, Eric
  16. Why??? How many boats and what type of boats are you expecting??? You'll have a slow start if your going out to the Potomac.
  17. Oh, I know the old flashers very well, had a Hummer myself; then moved up to a "Eagle" chart recorder, might still have some charts around here some place. Went to Buckbaits.com and saw they have a home study course of nine books, I can bet some (if not most) of it is still current. Cheers, E
  18. I have a Motor Guide Tour Series trolling motor, 98T42GAAF, 82 lbs Thrust with a slightly bent shaft. It's usable at lower speeds but gets out of control at higher speeds. Question 1: Is there any place in the Washington D.C. or So. Maryland area that does Motor Guide repair?? If so I can't find them on the net. Question 2: Is this something I can do at home; I haven't looked under the hood yet, but I am handy with tools (I used to build satellite earth terminals) Has anyone done a shaft change-out?? Suggestions?? Cheers, E
  19. Thanks for the info. I was at an antique show with my wife a few weeks ago and ran across a booklet titled "Spoonplugging for fresh water bass and all game fish". It originally cost $2.00 in its day, I paid $6.00 at the show I have spent years as a boy trolling on the Bay for Rock (they call them strippers now) and Blues, and been Bass fishing since 84' and in all that time I've never seen or heard of Spoonplugging! Where the H have I been?? I have found Buck's Baits on the web, they're still there! The only trolling I've ever done on the river was by accident, we were fishing a weed line (a break) and worked our way around its point which meant I was now throwing into the wind. and as you can guess I got a big birds nest; as we were moving off our position to clear my problem I was dragging my worm and hooked a 20" stripper; I landed it hand-over-hand. Went back to fishing the same worm in the same location and never saw another stripper. It sounds that in his day Buck was onto something, and started teaching something called "structure fishing" Cheers, E
  20. Fish Chris, Totally outstanding job !! That' commitment
  21. Elegantly Wasted, Thanks for your input, it's always good to get a second opinion. I guess it shows how old habits die hard and some PT offices are not up to date; they did have me support my legs (feet) on a large ball though. Can you suggest a good source of exercises for older fishermen or what to look for in a Personal Trainer. I'm going to my heart doctor Tuesday for a checkup and will talk with him about an exercises plan. And this just goes to underscore the point that we need to remember to take the internet with a grain of salt. Again, thanks for your reply Cheers, E P.S. How do you take down a post??
  22. Actually, they had me do a version of the "windshield wiper" exercise at physical therapy last year after I fractured L-1 in my back; but PT had me keep my heals on a large ball. I spent six months in PT pulling rubber bands, the WW, and a host of other legalized tortures. Cheers, E
  23. These look too good to through into the water, I think I'd feel sick if I lost one. Outstanding work. Can you explain what a photo finish is? I've never made cranks before. Cheers, E
  24. J, I may have to rethink Santee-Cooper...... I just went to Black's Camp website and got a look at the gator being displayed between two people I think if I'm going to be on a lake, I want to be the one on TOP of the food chain !!! OMG, that thing is BIG!! Cheers, E
  25. Sounds like Bass Paradise Actually, I've been looking at Santee-Cooper and the State Park on the Internet, and on Google Earth. I've found a web page that show where they placed fish attractors. Took me a while to realize that I was looking down on a Cyprus swamp though. I'm think'n bout running away from home and gett'n me one of those water front homes parked out in the swamp Cheers, E
