  1. Ditto on the practicing part. Dont tighten up your brake...if it all possible, loosen it up more than usual. Dont get discouraged, bc it takes time to master. Before you know it, you will be back handing it up under there. If all else fails, get you a spinning rod with some 10lb braid rigged up with a weightless senko. haha
  2. I would love to fish a new lake with Aaron Martens. They guy is awesome at figuring out new bodies of water. Second would have to be G-Man. He just seems like a cool guy to be around and he's the junk fishing master.
  3. You'll also hear certain pros say that all of their equipment is pretty much the same. There's one guy on tour that I will really listen to bc he doesnt push many sponsors except for a select few. He's been with Robo since he was out West. I truly believe he fishes with the best stuff out there.
  4. not sure if a 5 pounder would make the cut at 22", but it might. They're pretty chunky this time of year.
  5. awesome info...thanks.
  6. Hey guys, I'm helping out with a March of Dimes bass tourney at the end of March and I'm trying to find some companies or individuals to help out by donating fishing stuff or fishing apparel to raffle off and to give away as prizes to the winners. Any of you guys ever put on a benefit tourney where you had to do this? If so, were companies willing to help out? I'm kinda stumped...
  7. haha...let me know. The striper are schooling right now and hitting anything you throw in there.
  8. How bout you can come to Lake Murray, stay in my buddies lake house, we'll take yall out and catch as many 4-10lb stripers you can catch. haha
  9. whew...$600/day to fish? That's kinda pricey.
  10. These guys make some awesome points. Go get you a subscription of BASS or FLW magazine and study it. If you're like me, you'll get great satisfaction out of figuring out those little green bass by yourself. Yeah, you'll need a little help getting started, but it was better for me to kind of trial and error everything. I probably wasted alot of time, but it was worth it. If you like fishing with a jig, fish it. Get your confidence up with it...catch some fish on it. Once you've figured out how to work it and you've caught fish on it, move to another bait.
  11. yeah, if the grass is green, rip a lipless crankbait thru it or something. If it's dead, dont waste your time. Look for a creek channel or maybe some points near by. Not sure where you're at so it's kinda hard to help you out.
  12. I always loosen my brake up a good bit. Or you can always do it with a senko and a spinning rod. lol
  13. Water temp is the main thing. Most folks say 62 degrees is the magic number for spawing and 99.9 percent of the time this is the case. But remember, all fish do not spawn on the banks in shallow water. Some fish for some reason spawn in deeper water and that water obviously takes longer to warm up. I've seen fish around here (sc) spawing in late march and i've also caught fish in deep water with eggs in early june. Site fishing is awesome once you get the hang of it! Good luck!

  15. Of course it depends on water clarity, but in the spring time our waters in SC have warmed up a good bit and bream are pretty active. I usually try to match the hatch and find something similar to what they look like. Cant go wrong with neutral colors and black and blue. As far as trailors go, it just depends on water temps. If they're still kinda chilly, I'll go with something with less action, but if the water is up in the high 50's-low 60's I'll go with a trailor with more action. Sizes usually depend on whether im fishing cover or structure. Heavy cover, I'll go to a heavier jig but if Im fishing structure such as drop offs and points, I'll go with a smaller football head or something. Most of the time here in SC, spring means the fish are up shallow so I'll go with the bigger stuff.
  16. If you're fishing as a co-angler, you kinda have to keep up with the speed of your boater. It's kinda hard to fish finesse baits if he's throwing a spinnerbait or crankbaits or power fishing in general. Its hard to fish a drop shot thoroughly if your boater is constantly moving from place to place or quickly covering water. Good luck this year!

Have any of you ever tried them?
  18. ever tried a football head in deeper water? Fish some ledges and creek channels and you'll probably break that streak.
  19. Not sure why you dont like using a depth finder, but that would be your best bet. You can usually determine roughly where channels are in smaller lakes and you can roughly determine the depth of a bank by the surroundsing. Depth finders make it much more simple.
  20. Stripers are killing it at Lake Murray right now. My buddy caught 30 or so (3-10 lbs) in a couple of hours. They were schooling and chasing blue backs. He said he caught them on single flukes, a-rigs and jig head w/ a spinner and a fluke trailor. Water temp 51, air temp 28. If you're around SC, go check them out.
  21. I caught one about 3lbs and i thought i had a freakin mule! haha Theres a river down here in SC that has them. We usually go wading in the summer time and catch them but they're usually small ones. It's fun though...kinda like trout fishing.
  22. Man, i wish we had smallies like that around here. You can catch a 4 or 5 pounder, but it's really rare.
  23. those swivle hooks look pretty cool but I talked to my buddy who's uncle just happens to be an elite seriers guy who loves drop shotting and he said he trusts the uni knot more, but who knows.
  24. You ever heard of zipper worms? They work really well too...and they're fairly cheap. Like $4 per pack.
