My Blue Bps Rick Clunn Has No Drag...aack!
i used to have some of those reels and may even still have one laying around. Same thing happened to a couple of them, had them serviced and they were good as new. The only downfall to those reels I ever found, was how much they weighed. Mine were great work horses.

Before Technique Spec Rods, There Was Rick Clunn.
It is all about marketing. The rod industry is no different than any other widget business out there. They realized they could attract more participants by making it easier for them to choose a product. They also realized they could create more business and money by making people think they needed more of "something", than they really needed. It is business 101! But in the end who cares - they get more money and can stay viable. We get more choices to find a tool that fits each of us better and at price point varieties that make us feel better about our purchase so we can enjoy them just that much more. With no standards in rods it is all kind of laughable. One companies powers are so different from many of the others, you really still need to try them out to see if they fit you and your style of fishing. We have always had TS rods if you think about it because of this fact,

Using A Wrong Handed Reel For Pitching
Learning to pitch with your left hand is easy if your a righty, so just learn that. That way you don't have to keep switching hands or buy a different reel.

Looking At Revo Winch - Current Owners Have Any Input
I think I am going to get a Revo Winch at the Bass Pro Classic for my cranking duties. Any of you current or past owners have any enlightening input about this reel? Thank you,

Bps Pro Qualifier Reel Problem
I would just take it back, and get it replaced. PQ are great reels at a great price point. All reel brands have problems from time to time, it's a manufactured product. I still have several of the older generation of them that work great still today.

Reaction Fishing - Rethinking Rod Sensitivity
The MH/F does not have anything to do with sensitivity. It is just better suited for some of the things you talk about wanting to do. Sensitivity is going to be determined by design, craftmanship, and material.

Reaction Fishing - Rethinking Rod Sensitivity
If I had your rods I would use the Avid for your jerkbaits, and small/light plastics. Sounds like the Compre will make a good 0' to 10' type cranks rod. I would then use the BPS rod for topwaters, where you can see the hit. Now quit buying M/F rods and get yourself a MH/F for your spinnerbaits and jig fishing. I have never used that rod you are talking about, but have used the Tourney Special, Extreme, and Crankin sticks with no problem of feeling a fish bite. If that is your price range they will work. Personally, I would save up for another Avid, I love my St. Croix rods!

Ok Who's Got A Mojo Crankbait Rod
Thanks guys, It will only be for deep divers so I will be looking at the MH/M in 7'8"

Ok Who's Got A Mojo Crankbait Rod
I like the feel of this rod and I have some BPS gift cards - so it's a win/win. I need a rod for deep cranks, I broke mine. Couple questions: 1.) Does anyone have the 7'4" M/M and use it for deep divers? What do you think? 2.) Of those of you with the 7'8" MH/M what do you think about it? 3.) If anyone has any other glass rod suggestions around that $120 price point, fire away and please tell me why you would choose it over the MOJO? Thanks guys,

Daiwa Vs. Abu
I would vote for the BPS Pro Qualifier on sale often for $79.99. I have several and they are great reels, and thats coming from someone who has mostly Revo Premieres.

Am I The Only One?
I have a friend who is a spinning only guy and he has made 15 State Teams in 28 years in NYS. Additionally, he has won a couple B.A.S.S. events. It would not be my choice, but I would never bet against him.

Berkley Fireline
I have used most of the superlines out there and like Fireline the best. On spinning gear I would use 4# - 14#, it's extremely strong, and slices through weeds. I have some on reels that is 6 years old. When one end gets worn out, you just reverse it on the spool. I alsways use some backing with it to prevent it from slipping on the spool. You will be amazed at the sensitivity you are about to gain, you can also add a flouro leader to it when conditions dictate.

Lure Palanuik Was Using Before He Was Dq'ed
After being a camera boat for multiple Elite events and watching pro's swap baits on the bassmasters shows, I no longer beleive any of them on what bait they used. But I fish wiggle warts, so maybe these will peak my interest. i have used some of those Storm diving flat cranks that were marked down everywhere last year with some decent success.

Breaking Rods Too Often
Definitely sounds like some abuse occured somewhere in those rods travels. It may have occured when you did not even realize or before you purchased them from the store. You really have to look over store bought rods or ask if they have any others out back other than whats on the rack.

Anyone Else Use Abu Garcia Veritas Rods?
My buddy has 4 of them from several years ago paired with his new Revos and absolutely loves his set ups. He does not have the micro guides. It gets too cold up here during the fall smallmouth bonanza to be bothered with micro guides icing up. You need to remember that the people on these forums are a very small sample size of the total number of people who use these products. There are so many variables from care, maintenance, where you bought your product, or how it was shipped that can effect problems with products. And to be honest a lot of times we don't even realize we did something to cause the problems. The other side is there is always going to be some poor designs or deffects in mass production. Just deal with companies with exceptional customer service. I would not hesitate to buy one of these rods after using my buddies, but then not only would I have to listen to him say how great they are everytime I fish with him. I would then have to listen to him say "I told you you should have gotten one sooner". I fish with him too much for that!

Abu Garcia New Revo Series
Here is the problem with people when they buy reels. Most people look at price point and instantly compare that to quality and forget about mechanics. The Revo line is just like a bag of golf clubs, some people can drive, some pitch, some putt, and some can do it all. Us old guys who grew up with baitcasters with no brakes learned to excel with our thumbs. I am a thumber, little to no brake and my thumb has total control. On windy days I turn the brake up a couple clicks. The SX is perfect for a guy with my skill set. The other end of the spectrum is a guy who wants a reel that has dual braking and can be set to be practically automatic with very little human input. It is all about trade offs, downside is you are never going to cast as far as I am. The upside is you do not have to pay as much attention to the casting detail as I would have too, especially on those windy days. Just like that golfer who can't use that 9 iron the best, if you are going to buy a reel that does not fit your mechanics, then you need to practice more. Or buy a reel that fits your style of fishing better. Of course no one wants to admit that and most people buy according to what they can afford rather than by what the mechanics of the equipment is. Just my humble opinion and what I have observed fishing tournaments with different people over the years.

Does A "do It All" Rod Exist?
When I first got started I chose a 6'6" MH F, 6:4 to 1 reel, spooled with 14# Fireline. When I needed to I used a floro leader. With this set up I could fish 90% of the techniques out there. Obviously for really light weight lures I had to use a spinning outfit, and really heavy presentations were a little clumsy. I was able to fish topwater, texas rigs, crankbaits, jerkbaits, spinnerbaits, swimbaits, etc. It was pretty easy to cover the water column from 0 to 15' of water. I was able to catch a ton of fish and had a great time. Today, I look in my rod lockers and see 20 different combinations and wonder what the heck have I got my self into to catch a fish that would eat a hotdog!

Costa Glasses - So Many Options!
I love my Costas, here is what I did when choosing. Fit: Like everyone said go try different frames and get a pair that fits perfectly. Lense color: Everyones eyes are different, check out all the lense colors when out fishing with friends who have the Costa's. I went with the amber because of my fishing style and the fact that I saw shapes in the water better with them. Lense material: I liked the glass, but they were heavier and only impact resistant to 60mph. I drive my boat faster than that at times and did not want to switch glasses all the time. Mainly because I knew I wouldn't, and I never want to take a chance with my eyes. So I went with the poly carb. Good Luck, half the fun is trying all the options out!

Hypothetical Experiment: Skill Vs. Equipment
95% of bass fishing is knowledge and location. I know some guys who win tournaments all the time with lower end gear. Humans are adaptable to what they have to use and will become proficient with it. I think if buying higher end or lower end equipment makes you enjoy the pastime more, then go for it. Besides, were talking about a fish you can catch on a chunk of hot dog!
