Anyone Have Any Luck In Southern Nh Yet? (4/6/12)
Fished Swains this morning, I won't be going there for some time despite the fact I caught over 2 dozen fish the largest about 3 1/2 lb. It took me two hours of cleaning weeds off the trailer both on the lake ramp and at the house the weeds were so bad and thick at the ramp.

Did Swains last Weds but only caught a couple. Did Maine lake with my father sunday and caught 2 dozen with the biggest just under 4 1/2. I am convinced that finesse fishing is the way to go for me now.

What Would You Have Done Here?
I'm a little late to answer this but a I would have started with a mini spinner bait white with silver willow blade nothing more the a 1/4 once. then used a fast, medium, slow retrieve to see what level they were biting. If you were seeing the action then a fast buzz retrieve on the surface.

Took my dad to Alton Bay to fish Winni, in 4 hrs before the rain came we caught 34 smallmouth, I got a couple on a green pumpkin gold bladed jitter bug but the most came using a weightless wacky rigged senko black with red neon. or green pumpkin seed when the sky lighten up. We never left the bay at all.

I know this is off topic but what a day for bass angler Brandon Palaniuk he got disco'd for culling on the wrong side of the border on the Mississippi river tournament for B.A.S.S, I watched that happen on a regionals tourny on East Grand in Maine. A gentle man caught a fish on the Canadian side but 20 years ago we didn't have all this GPS stuff on the boats just maps and a compass. Just goes to show how even the simple things can hit you on a tournament.

Hitting Winni next Weds, has anyone used the new public boat ramp at the old Downings place? also any spots to hit for largemouth in the Alton bay area?

Most of the lakes I have fished (Maine) the large mouth are off and the small mouth are finishing spawning. With the crazy rain storm we had during the last full moon you might still see large mouth that skipped the last spawn do there needs, its not uncommon to see beds all summer.just not as many.

Thats what I do, alternate between a fast or slow retrieve the fish will tell you what they prefer for the day. The good side of a real yamamoto senko is they are heavy by them selves with a breezy day i use a 1/8 bullet or a pinch weight on the wacky rig. The bad side is they don't last long, the plastic is very soft. I personally have upwards to 20 bags in my boat of my favorite colors to get me through. When things get tough I grab a senko.

On sunny windless days you cant beat a weightless wacky rigged senko pumkininseed for sunny days black with red or blue specks on cloudy days. Give it a couple tweaks with the rod tips to give it a clapping look then let it drop every few seconds. If you want the big one use the texas rig under any shaded cover. I love skipping it under docks and low branch's on the lake. My big boy on here is proof it works.

Did some fishing on a Maine lake today, Always nice to give a lesson on what a white buoy with black stripes mean's to some idiots who ran over rocks with their prop and then had the nerve to say the marker was in the wrong spot. I guess that's what drinking and boating does to A$$holes.

Thinking maybe I should have just gone out today to one of the smaller lakes like Swains.

Merrymeeting is a solid smallmouth lake great fishing when you find the staging areas. I have always had good luck on the first two points on the north shore area. http://www.wildlife.state.nh.us/Fishing/bathy_maps/merrymeeting_newdurham.pdf The squeeze gets bumpy if theres any wind picking up because tha lake is deep for its size.

Trouble With Largemouth
I have been doing NH lakes for many moons, Spinner baits work well to find the active ones. Pick your patterns on what type of bass your looking for. Right now Largemouth are very active if your on a boat any sunny shore line that has cover right over it is a gold mine, cast a wacky rigged weightless senko where the water meets the shore and your sure to get the big boys right now. Just got doing a lunker tourney and lost by a 1/2 pound with my big guy coming in at almost 6.

Did Swains today 3 fish, nothing on the beds and the water was high from all the rains we've had. Had some gale force winds that makes it fun to be on the lake. Bad day to wear my shorts.

Great weekend of fishing did two days on Great East. Took some people new to bass fishing today and they both caught 4 to 3 pound size fish all day. I added with a couple more 5 pound fish to make ten total for me for the day. Saturday I volunteered my time and boat for the Dover Garrison school touch a truck day. well over 300 kids climbed a board and had fun with everything (horn, raising and lowering the motor, live well aerator) including some rubber ducks in the live well filled with water. We all must remember its the future generation we must impress upon how great the outdoors really is.
