  1. Yep. Bottom line is how bad you want it. I doubt Randy Howell or others got where they are by luck and happenstance. It takes sacrifice and determination with good financial planning also.
  2. True that! You can have the money for a the "stuff" but without the "smarts and skills" you are making those entry fees good for another person. :-)
  3. And what to say to the financially established adults???? Go baby go!!! Woot woot!! :-)
  4. Mitch gets the motivational star of the day with that last sentence!!!!!!! :-)
  5. I've often wondered if we ever sell ourselves short in regards to becoming a pro. Hear me out before anyone thinks this is a "pipe dream" thread. Take Randy for example, he didn't just one day say "I'm gonna win 2014 Classic". He had to start somewhere and then get funds, sponsors, etc. I know that it requires a lot of sacrifice with time and money, but if someone has time and money, why not pursue what you love? A friend of mine once told me (and this can be applied in many facets) "if you don't live your dream, then you will be working for someone to make theirs come true". Just a thought. :-) Joe
  6. One thing I do if I catch a decent size fish (usually 5#+) I will take a video of the weigh in and pics with the fish on it also. The one in my avatar I didn't do that with. Just was proud to land a PB. Also, people have showed me pics of their "10+" fish and I just nod like "cool". My point of the while thread is if you post a pic with a weight, make it legit. If your scale says 5 pounds for example, put it down as 5 pounds. Or don't guesstimate off the charts like 3 pounds for a dink. Especially pros on Facebook and Bassmaster with such a large publications. And if people don't believe my avatar, good for them. I was there and two others also for the weigh in. And I'm certainly not posting my 6.6 as a 10 pounder nor a 3 pounder.
  7. Good for you and your two cents guess. 6.6 though.
  8. 6.6 BPS digital scale. Friend with me used his analog and got 6.7. I went conservative. March of last year. Private pond. My PB.
  9. I have yet to see a fish 5# or more that looks less than 5#. Just saying. To me, if you're going to brag on a fish (especially having it published) then be honest about it.
  10. Yep, I hear ya. It's kinda hard I guess to really "validate" the pic when it is received. A picture of the scale would be good, but who knows if the person didn't throw some rocks in the bass' mouth or even rig the scale. Just have to go by best judgement I imagine.
  11. There was a post earlier last month about a fish in the "lunker club" of the latest Bassmaster magazine. Long story short, guy posted a pic of his claimed 11.4 pound fish, that looked like a skinny 4#'r. Well, this has been happening on a couple Facebook pages of pros I "like" and also some of the fishing company pages. Jimmy Houston in particular posted 2 pics today of guys with so called monsters in the 6 pound range. One of them is easily no bigger than 2 pounds!!! I'm serious! We have all had our share of fish tales, but I seriously doubt any of us would "go to the press" with them. I know everyone is entitled to post what they want in numbers, but I'm curious if anyone else has seen similar.
  12. Just came in the mail. Sitting pretty on my SUV now. :-) - Joe
  13. Wow, I must be the lucky one. I've been to the in Concord NC many times. Great service. The people with the time share stuff, I just put my cell to my ear. The new BPS in Cary NC is about 15 minutes from my house. No time share people there. Great service and selection. Nothing but good to say about both locations. We have a Gander mountain here in Cary too. Higher prices than BPS, poor customer sevice, and small selection. I still shop and support my local BPS. My .02 cents. Joe
  14. I'm a "younger guy" at 30 years old, however I like the old school king, Bill Dance. ;-)
  15. "Man, I hooked into a lunker but I lost it"
  16. Anglers have been posting their guesstimate winning weights on BASS sight. Brandon Paluniak put up a weight of 82.14 pounds! Serious weight in that bag if it comes true. ;-)
  17. Trying to figure out who posted a funnier response to this thread. Aquaholic or long mike. Lol those are great!!!!!
  18. It is going to be a great three days of bass! I have been reading up on the lake and how it fishes. Would be nice to see a pro land a double digit bass this weekend. ;-)
  19. My screen name is how it all started for me. On Christmas Day of 2010, my mother in law got my father in law a $5 fishing game for his wii. I played it that day and was "hooked" on fishing. I went the next day to walmart and started buying tackle. The rest is history.................
