  1. The Fisher, what's your advantage with the leader? Does it raise the worm better between pulls off the bottom?
  2. Dude, it's none of your biz why I throw what I throw. Nor is it an issue as to where I am in relation to the obstruction. Seriously? The point of this thread is about T Rig questions. If you want to rant a different way about the environment, fish welfare, my lure choices, line choices, and the like, then take it off the boards. Feel free to PM me with your concerns.
  3. I wouldn't go calling it "disrespectful" as there is no malicious intent. Don't take it so serious.
  4. So in theory the lure would break before the braid will?
  5. Great! The bass loved square bill cranks. 2-4 feet.
  6. And to answer the other question, I cut braid before and will do it again. I've snagged a huge tree from the boat and from the bank with braid on a crank bait. After a few systematic tugs, I will get out the braid cutting pliers. A new lure is a lot cheaper than a trip to the ER and pain in my wallet is better than pain in my flesh. :-)
  7. My concern is actually dragging the bait as you mentioned you do. See, I'm a "reaction" angler. I like swim baits, cranks, spinners, etc. I am just now getting started on the bottom stuff like worms, lizards, creatures, etc. on a Texas rig. My issue I guess is visualizing the strike. In my experience I see how a bass will open it's mouth and hit the "open water" lure. On a bottom rig I picture it getting a mouthful of dirt, sand, leaves, etc. and not my bait. Maybe if I saw a video of what the bass look like when they hit a bottom bait it would suit me well. I also have to learn patience. :-)
  8. I did it today at one of the local ponds. No fish. Just caught a few little sinks on my swim bait. I'm having trouble with what to do once the bait hits the bottom. Do I slowly raise and lower it? Pop it a few times? Big pulls then let it sink?
  9. LOL. I saw the topic and I was wondering what kind of posts would ensue.
  10. Can I use braid on a Texas rig? It is super strong at 50lbs. Also, I have it set up with one of my reels with a 7:1 ratio. A friend of mine said that is a perfect ratio because you want to quickly reel in the slack to set the hook. I also put a small red bead between the weight and the hook eye so it will protect the knot and also add an attractive clicking sound. So is this okay too?
  11. So far temps only dropped in water about 5 degrees. Air temps getting warmer already this morning.
  12. Thanks guys! I'll give it a go today. :-)
  13. What would you guys do in my situation? You think the water temps will be about the same?
  14. Here in NC for the last few weeks the air temps have been low 80's. The water temps at the ponds have been 72-73 and the lakes about 71-72. Tonight there is a frost advisory where the air temps are going to be 32 degrees for about 4 hours overnight. Tomorrow is going to be full sunshine and no wind. However it is only going to be about 55 degrees. Then the temps go back to normal spring temps like 78-84 degrees. Will the water temp be affected drastically when I go out to the ponds tomorrow with the kayak? I don't know what to throw and where???? Any help is appreciated. Joe
  15. It is a blessing she likes to fish as much as I do. Sometimes when I am tired, and want to just chill at home she keeps at me to go. Lol
  16. What do you mean "I don't want him putting scales in mouths"? What does that have to do with the price of eggs in China?
  17. Thanks guys! I appreciate the tips. :-) I will use good judgement this time. Small dinner night before, early bedtime, Dramamine night before and morning of, water, saltine crackers, and top deck of boat when trolling out and in while keeping eyes out with horizon.
  18. I saw people with that patch. I don't mind the drowsy. Surely beats puking for 8 hours. Lol.
  19. If this is in the wrong place to post, please forgive me. :-) I've been bass fishing for a few years and love it. I want to try bigger game fish from time to time. I posted a few months ago of terrible sea sickness I had two years ago from not heeding my dad's warning of small dinner the night before, take Dramamine, and no breakfast. Since then, I've been worrisome about going again. I've been watching rivermonsters a whole lot and really want to catch some giants! I am buying a Penn combo this Friday (rollers on the rod and a big casting reel for bottom fish). Guy at BPS said it is perfect for King Mac, grouper, etc. Question is can I find a "less rough" deep sea trip in NC? When we went out it was 60 miles off shore and it was a terribly windy day. Even the mates said it was bad. The charter we went on also offers a half day trip only 30 miles out. Should I try that? Or just go out and find a low wind day for the full trip. Either way, I'm eating an early and small dinner the night before and no breakfast. Also taking Dramamine. What do you all suggest?
  20. Temps have to be right. Any fluctuations in the temps may deter their timing, but for incubation and blood flow and activity purposes, temps are everything.
  21. Not the best picture to judge weight with. Just by what I can see I would say 5.5 to 6.0.
  22. Bass will go out of their minds with sudden or drastic weather changes. Cold fronts will cause them to slow their bite and usually head deep. But not always. Keep an open and variety mindset with our lures. Here in nc when that happens I use a drop shot. With the water being stained I will also tie on a creature that is darker.
