Nrx Spinning Rods
You will feel some difference between the two but that isn't to say you can't feel basically everything that goes on down there with an elite/xtreme scv blank if that makes sense. I can't recall how many years ago st. criox switched the elite/xtreme blanks to scv but I think it's been within the past 2-3. So if you are fishing an older svIV blank then you will notice more of a difference. It would be a cheaper route to just upgrade your st. croix through them for the trade in charge to a new scV elite 7mf blank if price is of a concern to you. The scV blanks are some of the best blanks on the market for rod builders and stock rods. If you are wanting to try an NRX though you will love it. I own both and there are rods that I will choose the xtreme over the nrx based on how the blank and tip action works with the build.

Nrx Question
Great price. Even more so that they upped the retail to 500.00. That is a very versatile rod as well. There is a thread on a different forum about rep sample NRX's and there wasn't one negative comment in the many responses about purchases them. The rep sample rod will probably be your best "used" rod you can buy.Somebody stated, and this really made the most sense, " why would a rep want to show a sloppy build, he is probably hand picking the ones that would make shop owners want to stock them."

Favorite River Smallie Bait
shakey head /w rage baby craw or zoon finesse worm. jerkbaits are a close second.

Flicker Shad...newbe Question
I prefer casting shad raps over flicker shads. I've trolled /w flicker shads for walleye with better success it seems than with shad raps but I don't think my sample size is great enough to give an honest opinion on which is better trolling. Casting though I just prefer the difference in action of the shad rap over the flicker shad. They are smallmouth magnets though.

Trokar Hooks

Hows The Bait Monkey Treating Everyone
With the baits I bought this winter, upgraded rods, added a few reels, and an expo this weekend weather permitting, somebody needs to call animal control to get that monkey off my back.

Zoom Soft Plastics
houdini, sprayed grass, green pumpkin/blue flash, junebug, green pumpkin/gold flake

Shad Raps
I cast them on wing dams and rip rap for walleye throughout the year but more so during the late summer, early fall before temps drop and the jig/plastic bite picks up. They have a more subtle action than traditional wide wobble cranks that makes them very hard to beat during colder water temps. Rapala does make a jerk bait but I don't use the shad rap 5/7/9 as jerkbaits as they are much too buoyant.

New Worm And Jig Rod
I believe the Champion (not the Extreme) 734 weights around 4.9oz. I don't know how well personally the recon balances but I read on a few TT threads that it is decent. The Dobyns rods balance incredibly well even at lengths exceeding 7'. Both companies seem to have a strong following. The recon is a rod that has always caught my attention though.

New Worm And Jig Rod
For what it's worth BTD is having a 20% off sale for the majority of their store that includes the Dobyns Champion Extreme. That would be a tad over your price cap(around 260) but the DX744 is a thing of beauty for jigs and trigs. If you want to stay in the lesser part of that price range, I believe a few members on here have nothing but good things to say about the recon715 for jigs/tigs and it apparently fishes well above it's price point.

Brand Loyalty
Agree with ww2farmer. Most of us who have an "arsenal" of rods and reels of a small amount of brands do so for a reason. We have complete confidence in their performance and how they work. It doesn't matter the brand. If you can honestly say to yourself that you enjoy casting each and every one of your specific brand of reels and using it then that's more than enough reason to be brand loyal. You by no means have to though. Having a wide variety of rods and reels is fun. That's what it's all about anyway. I do tinker with rods here and there but my reels I don't even bother. Aside from one that was given to me as a gift and is a different brand than what I use, I can honestly say I love casting and retrieving each one of my reels based on how it palms, casts and retrieves. However, I don't agree with "pushing" brands on people because (insert rod here) is American made or (insert reel here) is the only thing that works and nothing else compares to it. There's way too many good products out there for different levels of fisherman.

Ne Iowa, Nw Illinois
border of NE iowa and SW WI here. This hard water is driving me CRAZY. One month left though (fingers crossed) until spring walleye fishing on the wingdams starts.
