  1. That is most likely your issue. Glad you caught it before you spent tons of money. When the line is attached to the eyelet of the shakey head it will "rocker" (if that makes sense) the jig to sit on it's fulcrum or base (if you have a shakey head that is supposed to stand up) which is make the tail stand up every time with the correct bait. The SK heads will make a bait stand up but they, assuming you have the football head one, are meant to be fished in rock or gravel and seem to need the occasional "pop" if they fall over. Not a bad jig head though.
  2. My flux capacitor has been on back order since 1985 but I'm still hopeful.
  3. I've never had an issue with not be able to get roboworms to float. Those are some of the most buoyant worms made. 90% of the time i'm throwing shakey heads on 1/8 or 3/16 secret lures widegap or a custom football head with a screw lock. very rarely will I ever have to go to 1/4 unless wind is howling. I've used the SK football shakey heads and really liked them. I just found some that were much better. 3/16 is not too heavy to stop a bait from floating. You will get some "duds" with the zoom finesse worms that don't want to stay afloat but for the most part they usually do. You could try the megastrike e2 or w/e it's called if you are having a lot of issues with baits standing up. Those shakey heads seem to stand up every time. I've never had an issue though. Are you attaching lines to the shakey heads in your tank test or just dropping them straight down and hoping they stand up? Having the line attached to the eyelet and having your fingers act as the rod or fulcrum will make a difference.
  4. Well if you never post again...we know why.
  5. I was given one of these as a gift this past winter. It looks odd in my fleet of shimanos but i'm going to give it an honest shot. With hardwater still upon me, I've only been able to give it a backyard test (big backyard). I mounted it on an xtreme 7'mf at first and tied on a 1/4oz swim jig/5in single tail grub trailer on 30lb braid. I've never used the Quantum ACS braking system so it took a few casts to get used to. There's 4 settings and I settled on the setting after free spool. The cast control knob needs to be tightened a little more than normal at first but after you get it dialed in it isn't as touchy. This reel definitely needed to have it's bearings flushed. After doing so, the casting distance was greatly improved and the reel is surprisingly very smooth. (there is normally a curado 51e on this rod. The casting distance was obviously not matched but if I were to use this reel instead I wouldn't be too unhappy) Casting was effortless after dialed it but has to be readjusted for each lure (not like shimanos "one and done") Retrieving the lure was very smooth as well. Mind you, I've not had it on the water for any tests. I haven't decided what rod I'm going to use this reel on but I think a Dobyns 733 will likely be it's home for swim jigs/spinnerbaits. Hope this helps. edit:the reel is the red kinetic that is something like 60% off or something at TW. If that wasn't the reel in question, sorry.
  6. Jerkbaits, lipless baits, casting a drop shot, jigs, jigs and more jigs.
  7. I've got a fishing expo to attend a week from tomorrow so I'm sure I'll be adding even more. roughly ONE MORE MONTH until open water
  8. Both the bargain room xtreme (2012) and elites are the same exact blank. the new 2013 xtremes use a different upgraded blank. You are correct on the only differences are the rods components. I'm glad you like the 7'mf. It is something special. That rod is one of the few st. croixs i didn't get rid of for Dobyns.
  9. I own the 72MHM. I believe Dwight owns it as well on this site. I too got a good deal on it. The rod is a dream to fish lipless baits/squarebills and mid divers on. It isn't necessary to spend that on a reaction rod but if it's all you really want that it is an amazing rod to fish. You will see an improvement on obviously sensitivity and the blanks action. It is a perfect moderate action rod in my opinion. Remember though, you can't use the upgrade plan for bargain room rods.
  10. I stopped by again today. I went in to check if sk tungsten was on clearance. 1/8 and 3/16 were full and regular price. 1/4 and 3/8 which were full are now gone. Same thing with select sk spinnerbaits, hooks etc. Nobody knew their whereabouts either....
  11. It was at a store called "Fin and Feather." I'm not sure if it's just local or a chain. It's around the size of a Gander Mountain. They often times sell Rage Craws for 3.99 and lots of other discounts that don't make any sense for them to use if they are trying to make money.
  12. Theres a review up on *** of the aetos. I believe the same person is using the 7'mh in the casting jig video on the home page as well. I handled a couple in a tackle store earlier in the winter. They are incredibly light weight and seem comfortable for a store test.
  13. X2. Wait for a TW sale and it will be around 150.
  14. Rod will make a great light trig/topwater/jerkbait rod. I really love that xtreme model. Good buy!

Brovarny makes a fantastic swm jig. As does RC tackle. I fish 1/4 and 5/16 the majority of the time. Occasionally 3/8. Colors i use the most are white/chart(sexy shad) black/blue and bluegill.
  16. I'm very right handed but it feels so awkward to reel right handed that i've always casted with my right and reeled with my left.
  17. I used the 10# high vis yellow last year for a bit. I didn't think it was anything special. I went back to 832 now that they offer high vis yellow.
  18. I just saw them there as well. I have never seen them prior to then or even heard of them. I've used the regular pad crashers in the past and don't have the complaints that others seem to.
  19. Ive used both short and longer rods. I prefer 7'4-7'6. Im much more accurate and can skip better with a longer rod.
  20. There are walleye pros that Berkley sponsors that promote Nanofil on the tournament circuit. The line really does help get smaller shad raps down to the "sweet spot" of a wingdam faster if lots of current is an issue. Aside from that, the sections of the Mississippi river I fish have way too much wood/rock/zebra muscles for me to like this line. It does cast great though and I never had an issue with knots breaking on a hook set. I only experienced it pulling a jig from a snag. It frayed too much for my liking. If open water were something that I fished the majority of the time, I wouldn't hesitate to use it.
  21. If you're pitching/flipping into vegetation I would opt for braid. If there is sparse cover/open water I would use straight fluoro or braid/fluoro leader if you prefer.
  22. Heres a decent guide to give you an idea. http://www.another site/blog/fishing-line-guide/

    I prefer the 1.5.
