  1. Does amybody have one for the spinning reel? Cant find one anywhere on the regular schematic sites.
  2. there's 2 of them. i'm used to shimanos so this is a big odd looking.
  3. i prefer the 4.5 for DS and 6 in + 4.5 in for shaky head fishing. i like aarons magic, morning dawn, ehlers edge, warmouth and pumpkin punisher. Really though, lots of people say all the colors work well. these are great shaky head worms.
  4. tried it. these things won't budge
  5. so i'm breaking down a 51e i got a few weeks ago and a pflueger patriarch spinning reel and each of them has 1 screw that is so $#$#$ tight it won't budge. usually i can just tick it with a pliers with the screwdriver in place but these won't budge. any suggestions w/o stripping the screw? also for those of you that own/worked on pflueger patriarchs, why is there a spring attached to a plastic spacer that is attached to a bushing on the spool shaft? i can't figure out its purpose.
  6. I used 1/4-3/8oz jigs /w rage craw trailers on an xtreme MH rod. going 3/8 (even though it's in its weight range) on the M xtreme rod can kill the tip action as it's really the top end of the weight for it. 1/4 to 5/16 would be more practical 3/8 is better suited for a MH xtreme.i use an Xtreme 7mf for the smaller jigs under 1/4 ( which is rare) and senkos/weightless plastics. for weightless plastics you mentioned i'd prefer the 68mxf but the 7' MF will work just as well.
  7. it really depends on what you mean by weightless plastics. Weightless power wrm type baits id go spinning tackle or at the very most the 69mlxf casting rod. Senko type weightless baits work fine on the 7'mf. If by "light jigs you mean 3/16-5/16 jigs with a trailer then the 7'mf would be a great choice. The rod shines in the 1/4 oz to 5/16 oz weight jigs. Anything more id opt for MH. If the smallest uou ever plan on throwing is /14 jig with a trailer up to 1/2oz or so then a MH xtreme would be better. When my jig rod was an xtreme i used 1/4-1/2 the majority of the time and the rod performed fantastic.
  8. soft plastic frogs work better as a swimbait trailer than on a buzzbait.
  9. the BPS i went to this weekend didn't have them but they did have the shellcracker. getting these was half the reason i went. booooo
  10. i just picked some of those up too. fish seem to just love them.
  11. i wouldn't know. i don't use them. i only said they have a strong following.
  12. Powell has a strong following. Abu garcia veritas does as well. How cheap are you looking to go?
  13. He was specifically asking about the upper end not the avid. You are right you dont need top end for moving baits but he asked what i recommend and im just not a fan of the avid but it is still a good rod.
  14. Lipless/shallow/med crank-xtreme 72mm or 72mhm or legend tournament 7'mhm spinnerbait-legend tournament 71 mhf or 71 mhxf if you prefer xfast tips. St croixs xfast is very fast. topwater -legend tournament 68mxf or 68mhxf Finesse casting/spinning-69mlxf in both spinning and casting.the epinning is my favorite xtreme. Jig/worm i switched to nrx for this for an amazing deal. Not a lot avaliable in lengths/actions for this in xtremes but the 7'mhf is great.there are plenty in legend tournaments. Pitching- not a lot of options over 7' in older xtremes unless you go 711mhmf which is a good rod that i used in 7'6 but i sold it. Looking at adobyns extreme for this.
  15. Im not sure if this is a new color but i just found it this year and love it.
  16. well the elite/xtreme are the same blank. These would be comparitive to the glx. The nrx is supposedly a more responsive/sensitive blank than anything on the market but the quality isnt anywhere near st.croix. lots of breakage issues with the first version of the nrx and the reel seats are a problem. With the one nrx i own i haven't had any of these issues. I wish the finish and the quality of build was that of an xtreme/elite but it is a super sensitive rod...but some are the xtremes. The legend tournament would be personally above the gl3/imx but below the glx. But you could argue they are compariable. As i said before these are top tier rods so performace wont be an issue it will just be personal preference. Either one uou pick just put your reel(s) on it and find out. The xtremes are 100$ or so off now as they are bringing in their god awful new skin grip.(i love cork) hut they said they willstill be making cork xtremes so who knows. Quality cork is expensive. St. Croixs customer service/warranty is 100xs that of loomis so thats something to look at. Eithet one uou pick you will see a drastic improvement from you current rod. If you give us techniques you want to be using it would be easier to let you know which rod of whichbrand would suit you.Sorry for the spelling, typing on a tablet sucks.
  17. Ive become a huge fan of 5/16 oz finesse jigs in a custom color i put together /w baby rage craw trailers.
  18. If i were you i would take a strong look at the bottom content of the boddy of water you are fishing and what the colors of the forage are when blended in. Then match that based on thw water clarity and just buy some jigs from northstar with w/e head design will work for your area and then buy some skirts and make them exactly how you find bait. I started doing this and fishing really improved and costs went down. Only have 4 bulk colors of jigs and one always covers the forage/water clarity for the time of year i need it. Plus its more fun making your own tackle. If you have bps/cabelas close finding colors uou want will be easier. I do not so the above saves me tons of headaches scouring sites for exactly what i want. Commercial jigs will work as well. Northstar has some amazing colors and quality jigs that flat out work.
  19. this is probably the best answer you will find. Being most of my rods are xtreme/ltb there is an nrx i recently acquired that wouldnt be traded for any of st croixs line. Both are fine rods an each has their strengths/weaknesses. Once you go that high up on rod series it all comes down to personaal preference rather than which is better.
  20. Crazy....I've been using red label for a couple years on my squarebill amd trap rods and dont have any issues with it aside from abrasion resistance. Line seems really strong to me using the san diego jam...
  21. You are asking too broad of a question and the only answer you will get are biased answers. This is like making a shimano vs diawa thread. Ask a more specific question regarding the specific models you are looking at. Only then will you get a solid answer. I can help you if you are refering to the glx or nrx vs xtreme as i own/owned both. Tell us what you are upgrading from and what the rods are being used for.
  22. I do use some clackin' raps as well as Red eye shads. I use lipless cranks probably 80% of the time during pre spawn and a little bit post spawn when the bass or chasing bait fish. That can be more productive than just about anything that time of year. During the summer it gets really warm in my area and weedy in some areas so i tend to use swim jigs or shallow cranks over rock where i would throw lipless baits in the spring. once the fall feed starts i start using the lipless cranks again. i've been most successful either with a high steady retrieve with a stop/rip or stop/fall/go or burn/stop/burn etc..yo yo ing works well too but i found the previous methods more productive in my area. "ticking" the top of grass burning them can be very effective as well.
  23. I've never used a duckett before but I was able to handle them at BPS this weekend and those rods are very light.
