  1. Does anybody have any experience on the secret lures wide gap tail shaker jig? I dont believ these are available at bass pro or cabelas so i cant view in person. How is the hook? I believe its a light/med wire hook? But it says 4/0 (ideally prefer 3/0) but can deal. Im looking at the 1/8 and 3/16 . Ifanybody has any other shaky heads they know/use with an ewg 3/0 in 1/8 and 3/16 that would be great too. Im looking to get around 20-25 of each. Id prefer an offset head/football(ish) Thanks
  2. I still use big bite baits craw. It is basically a replica of the YUM crawbug with a ribbed tail. I generally use them in rip rap and drag/small skitter hops really slow. Smallmouth genetally hit it with amger. Iive found them most productive mid day shallow. I still use jigs over this the majority of the time but these are a really fun numbers bait.
  3. I like stren magnathin in 4# but xl is great too.
  4. I use a 7'1 MHF. I tend to pitch my spinnerbaits sometimes and like the longer rod for this. i don't do a lot of "sniper" spinner bait fishing but I have a 6'6 m/f that sits in the rod locker that is used basically just for that on the rare occasion i need it. I've tried XF and just prefer F. Both worked but I feel more comfortable /w a F tip.
  5. Since I walleye/smallmouth fish a lot in the spring/fall i'd go spinning Legend Xtreme 69mlxf spinning pfleuger patriach 9530 6# suffix 832 new high vis yellow /w 6lb fluoro leader on occasions. If it was strictly bass Legend tournament 7'3 MHF Chronarch 51e - This line decision is impossible but i guess i'd say 15lb fluoro and just wish i had 10 when it was cold.
  6. the vendetta is normally 69.99..the veritas is 100.00
  7. Legend Xtreme 7'2 MHM / 2012 Legend tournament 7' MHM. loves these rods for cranks. keeps them buttoned perfectly.

That would be called a jika rig.
  9. I've fished the premier and the chronarch. both are great reels and it just comes to do "brand loyalty". I'd wait for the gen 3 Premier before you make your decision. If it were up to me, I'd go with the chronarch. The majority of my reels are shimano though. Either one would be a fine choice and perform great. I can't comment on the Ardent. I've never used one.
  10. the Diawa Lexa is getting a lot of hype as the next "great mid range reel". we will have to wait another month to find out though.

That is a great video. However, it has nothing to do with the u-head.

There was a topic about these around a year ago I think but it didn't get much attention so I thought I would try my luck this time. Has anybody fished these with success? Pros/Cons? I'm more so interested in hook ups with their slender long shank hook. The river is rising so I thought I may just dink around with these on some backwater gravel on smallmouth this weekend. I hate to shy away from the Pumpkin E2D but these look neat and finding pumpkin ed's in 1/8 and 3/16 seems darn near impossible. Always sold out and never reordered in local stores. I've read there are also other companies that make a copy of these but /w better components and and EWG hook. If you know of them I'd love to try. Fall smallmouth shaky head fishing is coming up quick!
  13. Avid's are a fine series of rods. Will work great. Me personally i would prefer the 68Mxf or 69mlxf but the 7mf will work just fine as well.
  14. shakey head, drop shot and weightless worms are what i use it for for bass. otherwise i use it for pitching rip rap and wingdams /w 1/16-5/16 oz jigs for walleye in spring/fall. it would work fine /w 1/8 swim jigs.
  15. I use both. They serve different purposes but I would be happy with either of them.
  16. it depends on the braid and/or #test . i've had zero noise issues with 832 or pp super 8 slick. original suffix performance though was like a buzzsaw.
  17. I do it up north no problem using pp super 8 10/2 yellow and 6/2 832 neon lime. Both with 6/7# fluoro leaders. No issues at all.
  18. The majority of my rods are ltb and xtremes. Both line ups are top notch. I dont own either of the casting 69mlxf but do own the xtreme spinning 69mlxf and the rod is amazing.there is a difference (though not huge enough to lose sleep over) in the "crispness". However thats just a feeling you find when you start using xtremes after ltb. If i weren't able to afford xtremes i wouldn't think twice about being perfectly happy with ltb rods. Both rods are very sensitive. There issue of "fishing at a power above" isnt nearly as drastic as their lower ends depending on the model you get. I.e the 2012 ltb 7' mhm fishes no where near a H. Mattman posted somewhere that one of the most popular finesse blanks people ask him to build on is the 5c(s)69mlxf (xtreme blank)
  19. Its not "built on" the canen body. It shares the same body form or related design. Glsd to hear you like the chronarch.
  20. Thats a little farther north that ive fished on the wapsi. I havent been there in a couple months but i imagine that river is 2' ave depth with this weather. In your area id recommend the maquoketa for smallies. The wapsi (at times of the year) is arguably one of the best big northern rivers in the state. Can be decent for walleye in the anamosa area in the spring. When i do fish that river i do smallie fish and the fishing can be very simple with low water. Riffle areas with deeper water using shakey heads and small jerkbaits seem to always produce for us on that river. The YUM crawbug in green pumpkin is killer (if you can find them). Prior to the lake delhi dam accident the stretch of the maquoketa from the dam down to a county bridge 5 miles downstream was catch and release smallies. Was probably my favorite place to fish in iowa. Much of the stretch couldnt be accessed by shore but you could wade/boat it. Lots of steep bluffs and dropoffs. Downriver from the dam around the first bend the vottom contour starts to turn from the silty/mud dam aftermath to rock and trees and smallmouth are always there.
  21. What part of the Wapsi?
  22. Being in the midwest ive been seeing this first hand. Its gut wrenching pulling up to a spot seeing dozens of fish in each spot belly up.
  23. Haha thanks. Changed it.
  24. While "it may not be much", i believe the basis of most arguments of e vs g is since the curado e is still readily avaliable NIB theres no reason to buy a lesser "newer" version of the curado when the E is without a doubt a better reel when it comes down to it. A downgrade is a downgrade.I'm sure the G is/will be a good reel and some will prefer it but as a poster said before if somebody came up to you and gave you the option of a curado e or curado g most will agree that choice is a no brainer. Technical differences aside i personally feel the biggest mistake they made with the curado g was giving it the cannen body. I may even own one downgrade aside if it werent for that.
