  1. I didn't realize the retirement home let so many out on furlough at once
  2. For starters, don't oil it after every use. That does more harm thatngood and is completely unnecessary. Oiling a reel 1-2 a year is plenty. Less is more /w oil on a reel. Excessive oiling can cause internals to slow and impact casting distance. As for the line guide sticking, it can be a few things. Being the reel is new, I'd eliminate a worn pawl. Make sure the pawl cap is snug. If it is coming loose, the pawl will shift and come out of place. There could be dirt on the pawl itself. Take it out and clean the tip. Dirt can also be caught in levelwind guide grooves themselves. Take the levelwind gear out and clean it. The sleeve that the levelwind sits in could be sticky on one side as well. make sure there isn't anything keeping the sleeve from moving. I apply a super thin coat to the outside of the sleeve each winter when i tear mine down. Most likely you have dirt or something in the levelwind gear or pawl. If you aren't handy taking a reel apart, you could possibly get lucky and just blow out the gear /w air. Stop oiling the reel so much.
  3. All my reels are LH and I use Rod Glove covers. Shimano also makes LH reel covers
  4. Part of the reason I switched to all rod glove reel covers is because it doesn't kick the line when you put it on. As far as ease of getting a real cover on and off, tackle warehouse's are probably the easiest and most convenient. If you're having trouble with those you'll hate everything else.
  5. Coin toss frog/buzzbait
  6. I used it in 14# all last year. It wasnt trilene xl stretchy but i wouldnt call it "low stretch". Average, cheap mono.
  7. Good work. The only issue I have /w the test, and it's not something that I would expect you to do since you're paying for your own line, is that all your tests are done on line that is all in the ballpark of 8# line. Lower diameter line definitely has quite a bit of stretch. I don't think people expect low stretch in lower pound lines as it's geared towards the finesse end of things. I'd be more interested in seeing this same type of test in the 15-20# class as these lines as you move up in fluorocarbon have significantly less stretch than their offerings in lower pound tests.
  8. Your issue is with the retailer, not Dobyns. Your're essentially asking Dobyns to give you more money than what the rod was bought for. Imagine the problem they could run into if everybody bought the old DX on closeout, send it back to Dobyns, and then wanted the receive the new DX HP for no additional charge. This really falls along the lines of common sense.
  9. Well...Glenn is the person who does get killed by Negan in the comics. They have already said they are taking a different turn /w the meeting. It just seems that Glenn has been through two of these "is he dead" issue and killing him would be too predictable. Glenn was almost killed by a bat back in Terminus, being shot in the woods, and then the dumpster fiasco. I think ratings would actually drop if Daryl gets the axe and it would really just be an annoying "flex muscles" on AMC's part. I think it's going to be Abe or Eugene. Abe is already dead, I think, in the comics right now.
  10. I'm not a big braid junkie but I got some 50# FX2 dirt cheap last year and I'm pretty impressed. I throw buzzbaits on straight braid. No need for a leader. I fish the Blue stuff. I like it.
  11. No. They clearly captured that and gave it its own seconds of frame time for people to know what's coming. There's been a lot of foreshadowing Towards the meeting with Negan. With all the speculation and Internet theories about the final scene of the season and if a certain person is killed Or if they go a different route I think I can comfortably say there's no way it's going to be Darrell. There's no way Darrell is not killing Mitch in a bad ass way
  12. We met dwight last season next 2 episodes should be "killer"
  13. One is a power heavier than the other ... One throws lighter baits better than the other One has a little more backbone than the other One is 6 inches longer than the other one
  14. ....wow in the past 18 events (if you include BASSfest and don't include the classic) in the past 2 years, he's had a 2nd, 5th, and a 2nd including 5 top 20 finishes that include 8 top 30s. If you look at this "poor" day 3 cuts he's top 50 9 out of 18 events in 2 years. Yeah..he's washed up.... /end sarcasm. These aren't the "KVD robot" finishes people expect but to wonder if he's "fading" after those results is asinine. Just look what he does in MLF if you wonder if he's "fading"....
  15. There isn't a soft swimbait on the market that will match the Keitech at slow speeds and have the durability you're wanting. It's just something you have to deal with if you want to use them. Buy some Mend-it. Gotta pay to play /w these.
  16. Remove the pinion bearing that encompass the pinion. you're going to have to remove the clutch mechanism to get to it. Check the bearing for resistance. It doesn't have to spin fast. Just smooth. Clean it /w acetone, brake cleaner, or whatever cleaner you normally use. The "post" is called the drive shaft. If it's spinning freely you can leave it and the bearing (if it has one under it-might be a bushing) alone. Might want to check to see if your cast control knob isn't tightened all the way down...stupid..but the tighter you make this, the more difficult turning the handle gets. If you retrieve isn't rough, a bearing issue somewhere would be my first plan of attack. Just take them all out and clean them if you haven't done it this year anyway. If it is rough, clean the AR bearing and bearing above it. Make sure the AR and the sleeve are free of debris and grease. Use the least amount of oil you can possibly use on this. So little that you don't even think you used any. If that doesn't fix it we can go from there.
  17. 1. The NRX 895 is one of the most tip heavy rods made in the world. I don't think any reel will balance it out. I'd go Metanium for pitching/flipping. 2. I've already answered this in detail for you. 3. If you're worried about line capacity and always making long casts and/or fishing deep water, a deeper spool would be a good option. I wouldn't worry about it otherwise.
  18. It's a pretty awesome punching rod. wouldn't be my first choice for a C-rig rod but there's no reason it wouldn't work.
  19. The TDZ is 5.7. It isn't so much "better" rather than personal preference. My 5.7 TDZ is roughly 22 IPT. The 6.4 Metanium is probably around 27-28. It isn't a night a day difference really. In my experience, working balsa squarebills through timber and brush requires some finesse and a slow gear ratio prohibits me from burning it through the laydown without missing branches and not hitting spots that I should have been banging that bait into. It isn't a snails pace or anything that people for some reason think 5X is. Unless you're bombing a lipless bait in open water and ripping it through grass, you aren't going to notice a huge difference in retrieve rates on short line casts. The difference is there, but it's so minimal for most target casting techniques I don't even pay attention to it.. I'd put an emphasis on how a reel feels on the rod over a 5-6 difference in IPT. Even if I was after a reel that I wanted to burn a bait back, I'll choose the reel that feels better in hand and on the rod over being uncomfortable 11 times out of 10. If you want the 6.4 mentanium, I'd just get it and don't think twice about it. You aren't going to notice a huge difference in a 5X Mentanium vs a 6.4 throwing squarebills. Lipless baits, the 6.4 would be nicer. It isn't as if you can go wrong /w the Metanium. I don't recall hearing a single bad thing about the reel. You're overthinking it. Just get it if you want it.
  20. Well, if you're stuck on Shimano, really any of their higher end offerings will throw a 1.5/2.5 exceptionally well. If you have a half-way competent thumb, engaging a single brake tab and keeping the brakes low will throw a bait a mile pretty effortlessly. The only thing to really concern yourself is the reels form factor as Shimanos frames differ and palm different series to series. At least to me they do. I personally throw all my squarebills and mid depth cranks on TDZ 100MLs. I prefer the 5 gear ratio for squarebills but I throw them in a lot of heavy wood and shallow shallow rock. Those reels are just butter smooth and the 100m spool is pretty effortless. Can't help you /w swimbaits.
  21. Your brakes/spool tension aren't set right or arent working .That line is very manageable.
