Thanks, i didn't notice the post count. The scenario you are describing is not far fetched. But once you threw the snakehead in the mix, it became a game changer. In my baits defense, there would not be many baits that can withstand too much snakehead punishment.. lol

There is a strong possibility. However you fish out there long enough, you can ID the fish before the strike. Gar is easy to ID. Mudfish sometimes. There has been no documented cases of snakeheads out in the glades yet, but if they catch your frog, you probably can kiss it goodbye.

Oh..... BTW.... I have caught the majority of the species listed with a frog. In the glades, at least the South Fl area, your primary fish species in those pools would be: Gar, Mudfish (bowfin) Oscar, Mayan cichlid, Blue Gill, Warmouth perch, spotted sunfish, catfish, and of course LMB. 6 of the species I listed will hit the frog.

Cool scenario Welds!! I' ll play. For me I would choose my frogging outfit. I would throw a hollow body frog. Why? very versatile for the stage you presented. That time of year, in the glades the fishing can be challenging if you don't know what to look for. I would hit the vegetation areas of the deeper pools. 4 ft in the glades isn't much, but like you illustrated their can be vast areas that can be that shallow. For example the flats at LOX. Anyways.... coming back to my point, i would work the vegetation in the deeper pools, and look for areas that might have some current to it. That time of year,the glades is beginning its high water stage. That means afternoon storms. So water is going to be flowing somewhere. Find vegetation with flowing water and you will have some good success. Especially frogging.

Weld's based on your timelines, the water levels sound correct. In February small ponds will have low water because we are in our dry season down here in South Fl. Come July, after several heavy rains the ponds water level may have been restored. Depending on the depth's of this pond, just because you don't see bass doesn't remotely mean that bass are not there. Plus, July can be a tough time to fish down here. Its very hot and the bite will shut down. When you return this month, i bet your report will be much different.

In the 14 years i have been fishing 27, I have had one break in, and that was last year. It occurred at the 3rd ramp on the West side. I have since then launched out of the 4th ramp. Much less traffic, plus its farther North. Launching from Holiday to fish 27 is a hike. Years ago, i use to make the run from the 1st ramp on 27 to Holiday because I can't stand the traffic out of Holiday during peak season. Talking about a hike, my boat is 25HP so it takes looooong while to make it to the fishing grounds i was after. LOL.. I have wised up since then and have kept the distances under 8 miles. LOL

The STX is a good reel. Castability is good, line mgmt is good, brake settings were never a problem if you adjust to the baits accordingly. My one and only complaint is the geary sound the reel posseses. If you can get past that, the reel will treat you well.

Sounds like you were way further South than I was. When you say 2nd finger canal, from which ramp? Either way, welcome aboard. In the next few months the entire area is going to get crazy with fish. Can't wait!!

My 2 biggest catches that I can remember are a sailfish that I caught unfortunately cell phone camera's were just coming out back then, and my most recent big catch was this 35+ lb wahoo.

Hi Showtime, welcome to BR, I apologize for not welcoming you earlier. Did you go out yesterday or today to 27? I was out there yesterday for 8hrs between the 3rd and 4th launching ramp and I only saw one boat through out the day and it was another tracker. Anyways.. as far as the bite went, they were hanging around the ledges yesterday. I only threw 2 different color stickbaits and they seemed to like that better. I couldn't resist using a frog, so i threw it some as well, connected with several and lost 2 bigger fish around 4lb +. Maybe we will cross paths one day. Your Ranger's color scheme is unique, so I will easily remember you.

Check out Capt Harry's. They do rod and reel repair and servicing. I have never personally utilized their services but since you asked they were the first one's that popped into my head for our area.

To the OP, do have any pics of the fish?

Also, the water may be lower out on 27 than Holiday right now. That could also be effecting you.
