Cabelas Now Carries Dobyns Rods
I just finished reviewing the 2011 Cabelas fishing catalog and was pleased to see that they are now carrying Dobyns rods. I've already purchased three Champion Extreme rods from TW and Bass Tackle Depot and they are great rods. Can't wait til Cabelas has their next good sale.

Nitro Rods discontinued?
Yeah....those gurly men need lighter equipment. ;D I've been using a Nitro combo for a frog outfit for the past 3 seasons and I don't think it can beat for brute strength. Good news though, the Inshore Extreme reel is the same reel so should anything happen to your Nitro you could replace it with the Extreme.

Johnny Morris Gold?
I've been a diehard Shimano user for quite awhile, but 3 years ago I was looking for a new frog outfit. I purchased the Nitro combo when it became available late in 2008 and have used it for 2 1/2 seasons now. It's a tough, smooth reel and still feels like the day I first cast it. If all the upper-end BP reels, including the Johnny Morris Gold, are built like the Nitro I wouldn't be afraid to buy it.

Hang In There...
That's right, no gas-powered boats allowed on the refuge lakes. I'm using a Flip video camera.

Hang In There...
I usually try and wait til the first of the year to start counting, but the symptoms were really bad this morning. 98 days til spring!

Pflueger Patriarch Users
I'm thinking about getting one of these and was wondering if anyone on the forum has any experience with it, either good or bad.

Old baits from the 80s and 90s
Man, we're showing our age aren't we. I never thought we'd be looking back at the 80s & 90s and yearning for those now classic baits. I had a lot of success with Excalibur Shad-R, Risto Raps, Husky Jerks (balsa), and Poes. Thank god I was at BPS when the Shad-Rs, and Risto Raps were discontinued and I was able to pull them out of a box for a buck a piece. I was especially disappointed when Rapala discontinued the Risto Rap, that was a good crank and it produced. If you were lucky enough to get some of the special colors like the emerald shad and chart/black you really had a crank that called em in. I've got 7 of these that are still in use and another 64 brand new, unopened that I'm saving for....a rainy day?

Antique lure...Moonlight #1900
Unless you're hurting for cash I wouldn't sell it right now. Collectors are not paying what they were 10 years ago. If you do put it up for bids, like on Ebay, I'd put a reserve of $50 on it. Had it been in Ex condition with nothing more than age cracks in the paint, you might get as high as $150. Too bad you don't have the original box it came in, then you could really command a price. If I was you though, I'd just hold on to it until times get better. I keep my vintage lures and reels in a curio and enjoy showing them to folks who appreciate old tackle.

Laws on Waterways, Public and Private Waters
Whoa, you did open a can of worms! I know of a couple of public lakes where people own lake front property and they put out cables and no trespassing signs around their docks. I've even seen a lake front property owner string cable across the entire cove where their dock was located and the city lets them get away with it.

Depression setting in
I think our high this morning was 25. Years ago I use to let winter get me down, but now I pace myself and use the down-time to inventory tackle and order replacements. I'll also spend some cold evenings going over lake maps and planning trips. I've already planned a couple of four day kayaking treks, one into an area where no motor craft are allowed and I'm really getting stoked for that one. I'll also spend a lot of time on the forums, especially this one, learning new things. As far as information goes, this forum is tops by far. Actually, I'm starting to enjoy winter already.

Message Sent To Manns Bait Company
You're right farmpond. They have a product that I like and I will fork it out if I want it. I guess .25 per worm is still cheap entertainment. Not many of us were using that jelly worm and then that guy down at Falcon Lake had to break a record with it......remember what happen to the price of that Bagley crank after Omori won the Classic with it? Has nothing to do with supply and everthing to do with demand. Well, got to go, I have to place my $80 order for Jelly Worms.....yep, I go through em like a hot knife through butter. :'(

40 - 50% and 38% per item increase......no, there's nothing wrong with a company making a profit, but, plllleeeaaaaaseee. Did the price of food go down after the price of diesel and gasoline fell back below $3 a gallon? In fairness to Manns I will post their reply Glenn, but I think their answer will have something to do with production costs. By the way River Rat, how's things there with the Northstar Custom Baits?

Message Sent To Manns Bait Company
Sent this message to Manns after discovering they had dramatically increased the price of their Jelly Worms. I just visited your web site to order jellyworms for next season and was disappointed to see that you had increased your prices. I could understand a modest increase, everything seems to be going up across our economy (except my paycheck), but I feel this increase is extreme. Earlier this year a person could purchase a 100 pack of 9" Jelly Worms for $16 and change and now they are $24.49, an increase of $8.00 or 50%. On my last order dated 6/25/10, I was able to purchase the 20 count bags of 9" Jelly Worms for $3.59. Now they will cost me $4.99, an increase of $1.40 or 38.9%. I can not believe that your cost of production has gone up that much. If you have recently given your workers a pay increase, then I could accept this size of increase. I fully support improving the lives of working men and women in our country, howerver, I suspect that this increase is probably the result of corporate greed. What will your next change be, moving production to Mexico or China? It looks like I may have to rethink my use of your products, I can catch as many fish using Berkley worms.
