  1. The copper in today's treated lumber will not get along with your aluminum jon boat. Big no no today! Use regular lumber or do like I did and put plastic bunk slicks or something to separate the boat from the lumber. Carpet will not stop the corrosion problem.
  2. What size battery. I can go all day and then some with my 40lb MK and a group 29 Walmart battery.
  3. Sounds completely normal to me unless you are running a four stroke motor.
  4. That is how sonar works!!! Completely normal.
  5. Mine are the 3 wide since my 2x4 bunks lay flat. 1 1/2 is for bunks that are stood on the edge.
  6. If you are like me and sit for a long time buy Tempress brand seats. Your butt and back will thank you, plus they are American made.
  7. Well my boat constantly runs over rocks, stumps, logs, etc with no damage to the rivets. I really don't see how pulling the boat onto something as soft as plastic that is super slick is possibly going to do any damage to a rivet.
  8. Apparently you have never had to back your vehicle all the way into the water and then some on a shallow lake just to get the boat anywhere near being launchable.
  9. They work fine for riveted boats. No damage at all after a year of heavy use so far. As I stated above they do not say anything about not using them on riveted boats. That is the reason I bought these over other ones. They're cheap enough that even if they did wear out just replace them.
  10. Actually the ones I posted are grooved on top. Available in black or white and a couple of different widths. I purchased them to separate my boat from the treated lumber bunks the P.O. had installed but quickly fell in love with them. I only have to put about a foot of the boat in the water and can push it off the trailer. Never have to get my feet wet or climb over in the bed of the truck. Loading is even better since with more trailer out of the water the boat centers itself better on the bunks. I bought another set to put on my Trackers trailer if I ever get the chance.
  11. He is asking about PVC bunk products that make loading and unloading much easier. Not the standard carpet bunks. The ones I recommended screw down on top of carpeted bunks. They also make full PVC bunks but many are not to be used with riveted boats by the manufacturer for what ever reason. Some rivets can tear up certain types of PVC.
  12. I use these on a riveted 1990 Alumicraft MV Angler and they work great. No mention of whether or not the boat is riveted with this product, Just make dang sure your boat is attached to the winch before backing or pulling back up the ramp because they are slick! http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/caliber-marine-slides-15x15-black-trailer-bunk-pads.aspx?a=464054
  13. I was able to buy my new 2013 2.5 hp Merc on Ebay for $700 shipped back in January. Every where else was $850 and up. I would dig around on there and see what you can find. The Mercs have actually been cheaper than the Tohatsus lately because of factory incentives I think.
  14. I did it on my MK40 transom mount on the bow. You have to leave the transducer wire loose between the bottom of the control head and the top of the motor (not wire tied to the shaft) so it will be able to slide up and down it's mount. Other than that it works just like one on a normal foot control motor.
  15. I have Lowrance Elite units and they come off in about 2 seconds. A lot faster than I can unclamp my Hummingbird 120 portable unit.
  16. I love my bass hunter but I suggest you do what I am doing to mine. These boats will fill with water very fast if you are moving quickly in ruff water and there are two vent holes back towards the back of the boat. If or when you flood the floor of the boat that water will then leak into the pontoons (rain will do the same). I am in the carpet cleaning business so it was easy for me to suck that water back out but others may not find it too easy. Also that dry storage ain;t dry once water gets in the hull. I plan on plugging those holes up. Basshunter says they are there for air expansion during temp changes. I will leave the storage hatches a little loose or drill a hole somewhere else where this water cannot get in. I managed to completely submarine my boat a couple of weekends ago trying out my new 2.5 merc. Was moving and stepped up to the front of my boat where my dog, battery, and trolling motor, were also. These little boats still float just fine when completely full of water

  18. Climbing up the outboard works fine and is pretty easy. Just make sure to do it most of the time when the motor isn't running. I had to do it twice in about an hours time when fishing and falling out of my Stratos with a 200 GT into 45 degree water (Brrrrrrrrrrrrr that hurt). I was having leg trouble due to a back injury at the time. When we had a ski boat years ago we used a ladder that hung over the side and I found even then climbing up the outboard (115 Tower of Power) was easier for me.
  19. Lowes are leaps and bounds better than Trackers as far as build quality. I have owned both the Lowe 160 (2 actually) and the Tracker 165. The Lowe will normally around here at least retain more of it's value over the Tracker. I currently own a Tracker 1542 flatbottom that just receives light use that I bought 2 years ago new. Just found 2 broken welds and a broken rib this last weekend when I was getting ready to go fish. This boat is used almost exclusively on idle speed only lakes. Needless to say I am not happy with Tracker at the moment.
  20. Biggest thing if you go 2WD make d**n sure it has a posi rearend. I had a brand new 1997 F150 that I bought specifically to pull my 21ft Stratos when I was tournament fishing and didn't pay attention to what rearend was in the truck. I loved the colors, interior, new body style, etc. I wanted this truck bad and got it. One day we put in at Pickwick State park ramp and when we were returning it started storming. This ramp gets extremely slick when it gets wet and I took a good ten minutes and just a bout burned a new tire off trying to get that boat back up the ramp with the pegleg rear that was in the truck
  21. The trolling motor itself has a rudder and should be all you need. No need to modify anything other than mounting it on the transom.
  22. You need some type of rudder in the back. Simply adding weight is not the answer. I was trolling for crappie pulling crankbaits yesterday out of my 1542 Tracker and one of the lines kept getting wrapped in the prop of the outboard. (I was fishing from the front of the boat). I decided to tilt the motor up to prevent this and the boat guickly became nearly uncontrollable in the 10mph winds. Keep on mind I still had a battery, full 6 gallon tank, and a 20hp Merc 4 stroke in the back. An old transon mount trolling motor would help as a rudder if you had one lying around or could find one cheap on Craigslist.
  23. If it was a Triton as in your original title I would buy it. Being an early 90's Nitro I would not want it at any price. They definitly had some issues with the early model Nitro boats. One of the biggest issues is that it looks like it has just been left out in the weather which could mean rotton stringers and transon. Major job to repair and difficult to check the stringers without gutting the hull. You can check the transom by standing on the engine lower unit and watching for any movement in the transon. The plus side of this boat is that the Johnson-Evinrude motor if good is nearly worth the sellers asking price.. Those motors run forever.
  24. If it all checks out I would say that sounds like a steal to me. I would buy one in a heart beat if one popped up around here for that price. I assume this is a 16-17 footer. Motor may be a little weak if it is 17ft but should get the job done.
  25. Still not sure if you are asking about actual carpet or the marine vinyl? Many manufacturers are installing marine vinyl instead of carpet or offer it as an option. G3 boats have models where Vinyl is part of the model name. Marine vinyl is available at most any boat supply co. or stores like Cabelas and BP. Main advantage of it is easier to clean. Carpet will be cooler on your feet if you live in a hot climate like me.
