  1. Toss in a grenade and then just reach down a grab one after it floats the surface and hook your farvorite lure in the mouth and take a picture! JUST KIDDING! I usually can pick up atleast one of something with a small roadrunner. (Absolutley no explosives)
  2. Welcome. x2 Long Mike's comment......good to see another local on the forum. Lots of info here. Maybe get together for a day of fishing this spring or summer.
  3. Welcome. Do they have alot of animals in the Navy? Just kidding, thank you for your service. I was in the Air Force......Wanted to join the Navy but there are things out there that can eat you. Alot of info here.

  8. Welcome. You will find ALOT of information here.
  9. Everything I read online says the electric steer is not a good bass boat trolling motor......due to slow response in turning........and that could be bad in close to docks, stumps and what not. That is the only common thread/complaint I see in reading forums across the internet. People that own them say they would never own anything else and that they are perfect for the type of fishing they do....but most do not state what type of fishing they do. Now Long Mike was kind enough to give me a demonstration with his boat and Terrova in the driveway. It seemed to me that it responded pretty quickly and turned a pretty fast speed. Maybe not as fast as my old rack and pinion motorguide when I do the panic stomp on the pedal to change direction to avoid collision with an object but not far behind. Also, does anyone have a transducer mounted on thier electric steer TM? I have not seen a good way to run the transducer cable up from the motor since the Terrova has to have the shaft free to slide back up through turning motor for storage. I know you can get the motor with built in transducer......but I may not be able to afford that or worry about what I would do if the built in unit failed. Thought maybe I could get some others to chime in that have these electric steer trolling motors and tell me if they feel the newer electric steers are up to the task of in close quarters bass boat control or should I stick with the cable steer, and how they mounted a TM transducer. I fully see the pros in open water.......I just have to be sure I make the right decision because I only get one shot.....then I either have to live with my mistake or lose money trading or selling it to get a cable steer. I have really narrowed it down to Motorguide TR-75, TR-82 or the Terrova 80#. I convince myself oneway then the other. Thanks
  10. Thank you Wayne. Your opinion is greatly valued. With your opinion and Long Mike's opinion....I feel really good about the purchase. Thanks to you and Mike!
  11. I purchased an HDS-7 Gen 2 Touch Christmas eve............I was looking for an additional unit so I could have something at the console and the bow. I have been struggling wth which unit to get.......I had narrowed it down to an HDS-7 Gen 2 Base map for $899.99 or an HDS-7M Gen 2 Touch for around $1100. I was just killing time and dropped by the Bass Pro to do a little button pushing and found the HDS-10 Gen 1 for $999.99. I was thinking that since I had the Gen 2 touch with SS.......if I networked them.......I would get the benefit of the larger screen and the Gen 1 could do, I think, almost everything the Gen 2 would do....maybe a bit slower? What do you think would be the best direction to go Wayne? I can still take the HDS-10 Gen 1 back to Bass Pro. Thanks Chris
  12. Scored a HDS-10 Gen1 Insight with transducer for $999.99 @ my local Bass Pro. I kinda thought it was a bit of a steal. Guess that will do it for me for a while at Bass Pro. Shhhhhhhh.....wife doesn't need to know anything, eh?
  13. Maybe too late by now.....but Bass Pro marked down the Lowrance HDS Gen 1 Line. HDS-5 $350 HDS-8 insight $999.99 HDS-10 base map $899.99 I picked up an HDS-10 insight for $999.99 ! Seemed like a steal to me? Good luck to those interested.
  14. That did absolutely NOTHING for my cabin fever! Except stoke the fire. How could anyone watch that video and not want to go this year? Great job on the video. See ya'll there!
  15. Feels like the coldest, yuckiest day thus far this year...........man I can't wait for this trip.....and spring.
  16. I store all of my rods, reels, tackle, trolling motor and fish finders inside the house anytime I am not fishing.......winter, summer or fall it does not matter. My concerns were concerns of the heat and cold on the fishing line mostly. Also, they are better protected from punks and crack heads looking to score some quick money pawning my stuff. Inside they are protected in a controlled environment, by an alarm and surveillance cameras.........So I sleep better and don't worry about them while I'm not home.
  17. BANG!.......................OUCH! I pulled the trigger on the Lowrance HDS-7 Gen2 Touch. I will eventually pick up another HDS unit......5 or 7 Gen 2. Now the road to learning. I just need to find out which cable (ethernet) that I need to get so I can network the 2 units.
  18. I hear you regarding the cost. I am a tight wad........and these units are generally out of reach for me as well.....I have just managed to scrape together some little windfalls that have fallen into my lap the last month or so. The HDS-7 Gen2 Touch with 2 transducers (one for the SS).......cheapest I can find is around $1650. HDS-7 Gen2 is also around $1650...........So I figure to go with the touch screen. My biggest problem is convincing myself to pull the trigger on the purchase.........I do know that if I do not buy it now....chances are I may not get the chance again..........at least for a very long time. Have to train myself to not feel guilty for getting new toys I know if I could afford the HDS-9 Gen2 Touch......it does play tunes...including the James Bond THeme......and video too.
  19. I bought my 1st boat last May. Then got a humminbird 597ci HD DI. Now selling it to upgrade to Lowrance hds-7 gen2 touch and a hds-5 gen2. Never thought I would be able to get one.......due to some unexpected income.....I can. My error was I did not know, or have the experience to ask the right questions. Where do I want to be fish finder wise in the future? The answer is an easy to upgrade....networkable solution. I was set to travel the humminbird route...ordered an Ethernet switch and cables. I will send them back as soon as they arrive. Decided on the Lowrance route. The 597 is a great unit except that it is not networkable and no side imaging. There a lots of options in both Lowrance and Humminbird. Example, you can pick up a new Lowrance hds-5 gen 2 with insight and transducer on eBay for $525-625 and use 2D sonar now......and when you save up $5-600ish and pick up the structure scan module and transducer to get SI and DI features. Those prices are all buy it now......cheaper if you are not in a hurry and are able to bid or find a deal on Craigslist or somewhere. Be very careful shopping online. Good luck......take your time and think it out better than I did. ;-) Chris
  20. Wish I could do that. I am about to add a HDS-7 Gen2 Touch and a HDS-5 Gen2......and network them. Congrats on your HDS-10.......I would get a second HDS-10.......but I like things to be the same. Good luck.
  21. I am thinking about going with a Lowrance Hds7 Gen2 Touch Insight 83/200 And Ss Xducer Lowrance 000-10778-001 and either a HDS5 gen2 w/insight or HDS5M gen 2 or HDS5X gen2. Anyone had any issues or thoughts on how good/bad these will perform networked together? As I understand it, the HDS5M is a plotter only but will perform as a 2D Sonar with SS and DI once it is connected to a network with another HDS unit that has the functions and transducer for the SS..........sound right or wrong? I have not been able to determine how the HDS5x is different or what the 'x' means. Any ideas? I was going to network some humminbirds, but I think I prefer the Lowrance route. Please feel free to give me your opinions and thoughts on my decision.....if you have the time that is ;-) Thanks Chris
  22. Yeah the terrova I decided against was electric steer. Yes I was referring to a pull pull vs rack and pinion. I am not a tourney fisherman........I am just a recreational fisherman and was wondering if the pull pull is a better choice than the rack and pinion. And why that is the case. I really like the electric steer but worry about the 'extra' steering motor and the plastic housing seems a little flimsy.
