  1. Catching fish makes everything better.
  2. I got one a few weeks back when DSG had them on sale. It wouldn't run right for me either. Seems like the blade was interferring with the prop. So I cut the blade off and it runs fine now, exactly like a whopper plopper.
  3. Not sure where I read about it, but a while back i started using the square end of a small wire tie and run the hook point thru the hole to use as a bait stop on my swimbaits and spinnerbait trailers. It works pretty well and is super cheap.
  4. I am guilty of passing on the gross looking areas. I skip them because I don't want to get my line/reel dirty. Who knows how many tanks I missed out on 😆 I'll have to remember to go against my instincts next time.
  5. I did not know that...so i used the wrong name, it is the main shaft not the pinion shaft.
  6. Just got my Maverick reel and I am disappointed at the quality. The pinion shaft does not even extend to the tension cap. The used a plastic rod under the cap to push against the short pinion shaft. That was enough to turn me off.
  7. I got a LH reel for $27. Can't beat that price.
  8. I use a mini wire tie to go around the r-bend. It is almost permanent, does not fall off.
  9. I have been super busy at work and home for the 1st part of the year, so I did not get to fish at all. Yesterday was the first chance I had to sneak out for a couple of hours before dark. It started raining as soon as I got to the lake so I was tempted to turn around and go home, but I decided to grind it out through the rain. And boy am I glad I did. About 10 mins in, I caught a nice 3lb bass on a wacky senko and I was sure that it was gonna be the highlight of the night...I was personally satisfied, especially for the 1st trip of the year. Even though I caught additional small bass, I had no expectations for the rest of the evening. Once the sun set and it was getting hard to see, I wanted to do one last cast before packing up. And as it happens so often, the last cast turns into the best one of the trip. I threw a clacking buzzbait out there, and just reeled it back at a nice and easy pace (again, not expecting anything, since I was already mentally checked out)....and then about 10 feet out from the bank....a huge splash on the surface and I felt a strong tug on my rod. The drag slipped a little during the fight so I knew it was a pretty big bass. Honestly, she did not fight as hard or long as I was expecting, but I was ok with that because I didn't want her to have more chances to shake the hook. I didn't have a scale on me so no actual weight, but I was able to put my fist in the mouth. If this bass is any indication of how the rest of the year will go.....I am going to be a happy guy. I also need to learn how pose with a bass...my deer in headlight expression does not do justice for the bass.
  10. Is there a code?
  11. I know why the Mach swimbaits are discounted. The metal joints are painted over and the sections do not move freely, they get stuck sideways often. I haven't try it in the water yet, but I don't have high hopes.
  12. Not too heavy for bearings?
  13. I often use 3/0 circle hook for wacky senko fishing. I find that once they are hooked, it is very rare for them to get off. The only negative that I see with the circle hook is that you don't get to do a hook set. I do barbless sometimes if I want an easier release. But I don't really see a difference.

  16. Having a housekeeper is a one way door, once you get one, you can never "not" have one.
