Of the reels you have listed I would go with the Curado 200G in 6 gear ratio. The SX is a great reel, but an absolute pain the 6 to learn on. I have no experience with the Chronarch but it may be a bit small for an all around bait caster.

Problem with most large corporate chains is some duche making six figures a year in an office somewhere does the ordering for a store in a state he's never been too

The guy at Pure Fishing told me the reason for the heavy grease is the majority of people buying a reel will use it 10-12 times a year, won't clean it and won't lube it.

My Gen 3 S feels abit more durable than my gen 2's. that has been a complaint of mine too. If your gonna drop 200 plus on a reel, one would think the finish would last longer

I'd like to see an all black reel to match the Crucial rod. Not crazy about green but the dark green is ok

Not a brand war or whats better just curious what are some improvements you would like to see on your favorite bait casters and rods! For me I really like the concept Shimano has on their side plates. Quick one handed release of the side plate and you never have to worry about it falling into the water or bouncing off the rocks. I'm surprised more companies haven't jumped on it. The Gen 1 Abu low profile reels you could remove the side plate with one hand. Now it takes two. On my Pro Qualifier, you don't have unscrew the tension bar it's spring loaded which is nice. Now as for the Shimano reels, the handles are kinda goddy. I like straight lines like the Abu's. Anyone else?

I recommend a big spool of Berkley big game for backing. 30 and 50 pound Suffix 832: Flipping pitching into grass or cover. 12-15 pound Yo-zuri hybrid: Cranking topwater 14 pound Bass Pro fluoro: clear water applications plastics 8-10 pound Bass Pro fluoro for leader. That should cover 99% of fresh water applications.

I am. I have two. My heavy cover pitching rod is the 7'11" Heavy Moderate Fast. It's not the best for casting as its stiff and heavy, but I bought it for pitching off docks and the deck. I love it. I run a Gen 2 STX with 50# braid and its like a Warn winch pulling a fish out of the flooded timber. My other one is a Heavy Xtra Fast 7'. It's my shore pitching rod and I use it for the same as my 7'11" if needed, but it's a great casting rod as well for swim jigs. I run a Gen 2 STX with 30# braid. It will do everything my larger one will, winch etc but its more versatile. I tried a MH Veritas for both applications and it was too light more me. I use 1/2 oz jigs and heavier 99.9% of the time. The MH felt way to overloaded.

That's for all the replies. Seems the Berkley is alright. I don't need a tourney accurate one just one that I can weigh decent fish to know when my PB is broken. Thanks again

There is a difference between being narrow minded refusing to use a product because of brand name and refusing because of a negative issue or being unhappy. In your case you had an issue with a different brand of product and chose something different

Weird question, but will tying the line in the holes of the spool, make it off balance when in a fast spin? I have always wondered this so I tie in the center. Kinda like a wheel weight being in the wrong place.

I have always been a brand loyalty whor$ much like the resident LMG . After coming to this board I started looking at other brands and hearing all the claims, I finally bought a Shimano product and couldn't be happier. I can't say it's better than my Abu's but for what I bought it for, it works great. As was said earlier in the thread, if you keep to one brand because of loyalty or being narrow minded, you miss out on some really good stuff out there. I kept with one brand of rod for the whole loyalty thing, and made due with what I had. I needed a rod for a certain technique and what was available didn't cut it for me. For me being the important part. I found a different brand of rod, after opening my mind, and my first cast I was like "holy Hanna".

So welcome and ask anything!To answer your question: Yes, I have two of the new ones. Not sure if your asking about the Gen 1 & 2 which are silver or the Gen 3 which is the new black and white one. I have the Gen 3's It is by far one of my favorite reels I own. The breaking system is 2nd to none to learn how to start with a baitcaster. Easy to operate and smooth as all get out. The very 1st ones had some gear grinning issues but it was taken care of ASAP. I am running one on a 7' M Micro Veritas and it will cast a small top water out past 40 yards if the conditions are good. For the price it's hard to beat too. If you go to bass pros page, I have a full review with pictures on the new S. it's the featured review for it. You cant go wrong. I love mine and provided it proves ts self down the road, will be in my arsenol for ever.

My old scale is junk and looking for a new one. I would prefer digital if possible. Reviews online are all mixed. Just curious to see what most around here recommend. Thanks
