Anyone Had The Vmc Sureset Hooks Bend Out?
That was my thought. My drag was set pretty light plus the rod was a graphite cranking rod so there really wasnt any serious ripping or pulling.

Help Me Choose My First Baitcaster Setup
You have a wide selection of baits listed. Some really need a specific rod and reel IPT to fish them the best way you can. That said I think a MF is going to be too light to effectivly fish everything you have listed. You may be better off with a MHF action rod. The 13 rods are great rods for the money. Between the 13 and the St. Coix Mojo, I'd say both would fit well in the 100 dollar mark with the better given to the 13. the 7' MH is a fast action and can handle baits around 3/8 oz and up. As for reels, I pefer Shimano reels. I'd say anything with a IPT around 25-26 would be good for what you want.

Anyone Had The Vmc Sureset Hooks Bend Out?
Thanks. I had never hand any trouble at all untill today. Crank was brand new too. I love them for my topwaters too. They are great for short strikes. I thought the same when I originally got them, but the way the DT series rides the bottom, I have never had one fail me. Your probably right, Its been a long time since I've caught a cat. I was using brand, but I had my cranking rod and a light drag.

Anyone Had The Vmc Sureset Hooks Bend Out?
I had on a DT6 in Ikes Demon color today. Water was around 4-5 feet deep and I was basically boucing it off the bottom. I had some decent luke on a few small Hybrids, but ended up drawing the attention of a 3-4 pound cat fish. He took a couple short runs, and as I was lowering the net, he jerked and was gone. As I went to retie, I noticed that the rear sureset hook was basically flat as a nail. I've been using these on jerkbaits and cranks for about a year now and have never had one flatten out like that. Anyone else had this issue?

Curado 50E Noise
You know this makes me feel stupid, but this is the first CU50E I've ever had and I just assumed the Pawl wasnt put in it like it is on the CH50E's I have. Its been taken out prior to me getting it.

Are you talking about talking about the Anti-reverse Ratchet. Flat under the drag washer the size of a half dollar or the anti-reverse pawl?

Curado 50E Noise
Need some help. I recently got a used 50E. It looked to be in great shape. I have taken it out 4-5 times and it was fantastic. All I did was flush the bearings like normal before I took it out. Well today about 3 hours in to fishing, it started making a slight "tick" "tick" "tick" as I was reeling in. Fast the retreive the fast the "tick" "tick". Slower the retreive, you get the point. Casting is fine, hardly any noice and very smooth When I got home, I took it down for a good cleaning and re-lubing. I figured it just needed lube. It was pretty dirty inside, but nothing looked damaged, worn etc. I re-assembled and went to casting a 1/2oz plug in the yard to test it out. Same thing, and I'll be damned if it isnt louder. Any suggestions?

Thanks man. I am waiting on funds for my Swim Jig rod which will be the same except for a 734. I finally decided to get some combos that will last the time. My son is now 7 and is getting more and more interested in fishing. It'd be nice to give these to him when he gets of age.

Split Rings Size And Brand Recommendations
I'm putting together an order and am needing some split rings. I haven't a clue on what size to get and am also looking for brand recommendations. I will be using most for cranks and some to add weight on susending jerkbaits. 1/2-3/4 oz lipless and nothing larger than a 5XD crank. Thanks in advance

Here is my pride and joy. Shimano Core 100MG spooled with 40# PP Slick atop my Dobyns Champion Extreme 745. This makes jig fishing a blast even when the jig bite is off.

Backing Questions
Yes sir. If you put 65 yards on a reel and back it, you can get 3 spoolings per spool where as if you didn't back it, you would only get one with about 30-40 yards left. At 30 dollars a spool it makes it 10 bucks to spool a reel rather than 30. Those are approx costs.

Backing Questions
You don't have to by any means. It's just to save on cash.

Backing Questions
No problem. I had to pull the 20# off my big rod as it was getting to much memory but 20# is pretty big. A week later I did the same with 12# and still have it spooled. It has a tad bit of memory, but nothing like I've experiencedin thee past with other fluoro's. Try to find it on sale. It's usually 10 dollars or so off. Makes it not so bad when you use backing.

Do You Remember Your First Jig Fish???
Unfortunately I don't. My dad started me so early on when I was 2-3 using a jig I can't remember it. My first jig fish I can remember was on my 9th birthday. I was using a black/yellow 1/2oz football jig with a black pork trailer of some brand. Just at 4 pounds. That I'll never forget. One of the first times my dad said he was proud of me. I still have the rod.

Rod Confusion Help!
I have a 733 and anything over 3/8-1/2oz total weight is pushing it limits. I use my 733 for 1/4-3/8 shakey head tubes and jigs. Remember the 1/2oz jig is the head only. Add the hook, skirt and trailer your looking at 3/4 and up. The 4 power Champion rods are a fantastic light to medium cover rod for 1/2 & up jigs. If your in seriously heavy cover you want to jump up to a 5 power.
